The Stanley Parable is a first person exploration game. You will play as Stanley, and you will not play as Stanley. You will follow a story, you will not follow a story. You will have a choice, you will have no choice. The game will end, the game will never end.
Am I Stanley? Stanley is mean to me.
Stanley is everything, and everything is Stanley. At least that’s the general idea behind this bizarre psychological social experiment that someone somehow turned into a video game. The strange thing is… it’s actually really good. The graphics are decent enough, but the real highlight is the narration and the way the game constantly reacts to your choices. The flow of events can either delight you or completely drive you insane depending on how stubborn you decide to be. One moment you’ll be laughing, and the next you’ll be arguing with a narrator who clearly enjoys tormenting you. Overall, it’s an incredibly unique experience and absolutely worth playing at least once. If only Stanley would finally make a sequel already. Oh wait… there kind of is one. Just remember: without Stanley, there would be no game. That includes you reading this, Stanley. First of all, this is one of my favorite games ever and there is nothing wrong with it. I'm only leaving a negative review because this is the original 2013 release of the game and while it was well polished in its day it's starting to show its age and if you have the money to spare I highly recommend that you buy the 2022 remake "The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe" instead. Despite being a remake in Unity rather than Source it visually looks and mechanically plays exactly the same way, while having pretty much 2x the original game's content added on as a bonus.
This game is proto-Backrooms, long before the actual Backrooms craze started, but a clear inspiration. It's closer to the Black Mirror-esque Backrooms games where you feel hopelessly lost and look for subtle clues, not so much the horror/survival ones where you encounter entities. However, unlike most of these types of games are now, this one is more of a concept piece that lacks a stopping point. It gets compared to Portal a lot, but Portal has a definitive ending. Stanley Parable doesn't and it champions the journey over the destination. Although I highly doubt many Backrooms fans start with this game anymore, it should be mandatory.

Very very very fun game!!! It was so funny to play and hear the narrator's reactions. Thinking about buying the other game.
I really don't know what compelled me to 100% this game. I did all the achievements legitimately besides "Go Outside" (I am NOT waiting 5 years) Yes, that means I played this for an entire Tuesday
Incredibly funny, and very well written. Even though gameplay itself is minimal, this still ranks among my favourite games.
gooon
No gameplay variety - just opening doors - and that’s enough to make it fun. No rich narrative, yet it explores themes deeper than 99% of story-driven games. Walking around and thinking about freedom
