This game has the same problem as the first Final Fantasy XIII game. It will not work on modern day windows computers as this game was never developed for modern day Windows PC hardware with all the modern-day 64-bit drivers. This issue seems to be the major issue this game keeps getting negative reviews. Also, patching this game manually will not guarantee that it will work. This is simply the nature of PC gaming (especially on Windows) and game development in general. However, it works on Linux without problems and has very good rating on Proton database. No stutters, crashes or freezes. It just work as it should. So if you absolutely want to play this on PC, I would suggest to simply stay away from playing this on Windows as it has simply too many issues and just play it on Linux using Steam's built-in Proton compatibility layer. For those who are interested, I'm using Proton Experimental as the compatibility layer.
This game is broken and makes you download at least 2 community patches to make it work as intended but as someone who hated FFXIII without even hearing about its reputation this game feels like such a massive step up and has completely changed my opinion on the XIII games even if this port is god awful garbage
My favorite part of the game is pressing the Escape key. If you want to exit the game, that is what you do. You can also try Task Manager, but pressing the escape key is the both the fastest and most elegant solution. Final Fantasy 13-2 presents two visions of the future. If you don't defeat the AI, then everyone dies. If you manage to defeat the AI by unmaking it, the town of Academia is populated with NPCs that don't know how conveyor belts work. The children there also haven't worked out walking yet, at the apparent age of 8 years old. Fully grown adults will spawn into existence while you're riding the conveyor belts. So, if people aren't standing at the end of a conveyor belt, engaged in wonderful conversation while blocking your path, they spend their days complaining about their love lives and helplessly watching tripping children. The game starts up with a loud, annoying, buzzing sound that nearly everyone complains about. You can mod the game to silence the music, but my simpler solution was to press the mute button. Most of the dialogue has subtitles. The first Final Fantasy 13 game had a tune that really annoyed me after the 3rd time I heard it. It went bwahbwahbwahbwahbwah bwah bwahbwahbwahbwahbwah And I had high hopes that, because Theatrhythm didn't include the tune in its FF13-2 song collection, the sequel wouldn't have it either. I was bitterly disappointed. I pressed the mute button. The steam community really helped with the stability of the game. I found a post that recommended running this through the console: powershell -command "$p='D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY XIII-2\alba_data\prog\win\bin\ffxiii2img.exe';$b=[IO.File]::ReadAllBytes($p);$b[0x126]=0x22;[IO.File]::WriteAllBytes($p,$b)" This caused windows to run it in a mode that mitigated its memory addressing issues. Rating: 4 out of 10.
Improves a lot from the first, pacing wise and just overall. The soundtrack is amazing and in my opinion, one of the most beautiful in the series so far. While I did miss the cast from the original game, the characterization of Caius and his compelling motivation make up for it in a way that leaves you wanting more after each session. I recommend downloading the FF13-2 HD patch on NexusMods for however long it'll be up for if you want the best experience of the game since admittedly, the base game does have its flaws and unfortunately isn't optimized at all compared to its PlayStation 3 counterpart (of course, if you're playing this game, you probably already knew that). The combat is again, very fun! I wasn't really into the monster system at first, but as the game went on I grew to love it just as much as I did the original. The game focuses on Serah and Noel, so they took away the three story-focused party members from the first game and opted for this system instead for the vast majority of the base game. Despite all these changes though, they made the combat still have the same heart as the original while spicing it up and also taking away the (lowkey tedious) grind in the first game that was upgrading your weapons since they have pre-set stats now. It really helped keep me into the game and fixes a lot of the pacing issues from the first. Otherwise, I think it's an overall great time to sit down and digest the entire world around you. The game does a really good job at making every single environment feel so alive, despite how much you'll be time-hopping into new areas constantly for the main story and side quests. I recommend this game to anyone getting into the series, and don't let the naysayers stray you away from enjoying the game for yourself! It's a really great time, and I hope someone else enjoys it just as much as me when playing for the first time.
Yikes... this sucked. I'm going through the FF13 games for the first time and I somewhat enjoy the first game for what it is. This game has more of that ATB gameplay which I found enjoyable especially since it's a little bit more faster paced. And the story, it's okay. I really am playing these games for Lightning and Serah and seeing what happens. Although the game frequently dampens my experience on multiple fronts and I seriously question the devs that made this game. Due to the nature of the story, enemies will spawn out of thin air around you like walking through tall grass in a Pokemon game. Yet there's no tall grass here and you are forced to fight enemies after walking a short distance each time, that is unless you run away from them. This. Gets. Repetitive. It gives me anxiety exploring around only because I'm so close to reaching this next area only to be faced with a minor convenience every 30 seconds. Now about the finicky difficulty of this game. It starts off alright, too a little hard till you level up, pretty alright and smooth after, to annoyingly long and difficult at the very end. This is exactly how it was like in FF13 but I appreciate how quick this game feels, despite having the same runtime ime. The thing about it, these games are designed for grinding. Stay at an area you want to reap RNG loot from or to level up your characters and monsters. The question is: for how long? That right there ruins the momentum the game has in which the pacing of the story doesn't help out as much as I hoped. Seriously, I hate playing single-player games where grinding is HEAVILY encouraged. But alas, times are different now. The music and setting are cool. Time travel/dimensional hopping is a thing here. It's nothing I took too seriously since it is intentionally confusing but at least I tried to enjoy what they presented. Graphics and performance REQUIRE you to search up online so that the game doesn't crash on you and to make the game look slightly better than what it is. The FFXIII 4 GB Patch is what you need and you can find other mods out there that uses that patch. I didn't like playing this game. At all. I do hope we get to see this trilogy remade one day but after playing I doubt it even deserves that treatment
Najgorszy port z jakim miałem do czynienia w mojej 30-letniej "karierze" gracza. Wymaga konkretnego ustawienia widowsa z ogromną pomocą AI, a mimo to zanim zrobiłem 100% osiągnięć wyrzuciło mnie z gry kilkadziesiąt razy, jeśli nie ponad 100.
Genuinely one of the worst pc ports ever made, square enix should be ashamed for selling this. Even after hours of trying to fix this trash it still runs horribly and crashes every 30 minutes. However, the game is incredible and is a fantastic step up from 13. If this game ever gets a playable port I heavily recommend playing it or just playing it on ps3.
I personally prefer XIII and honestly just didn't enjoy this
