It destroy my hear to say this because the story is so cool. I would say the the best sentence that describe this game is "Always more" but not in the content in the OP side of the bosses. When you got a strong boss that just use a certain form another phase starts and you are with no HP vs an enemie that is OPAF full life. No any balance betwin the characters and the bosses. You are a worthless peasant that is facing gods all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time. And the final of the game is a long corridor of OP bosses. Enemie are resistant to everything where a strong part must be balance with a weakness which is clearly not the case. The best way to balance it is to make items not using ATB. And the game would be a 1000 times better. I just can't finnish this game.
so fun
music is awesome

First things first, in life not all things are 100% bad or 100% good. A game from the mid 90s was remade with modern technology. It took a decade to finally get it but it arrived. That in itself is a good thing. Also revisting nostalgia from childhood carries positive emotions and memories. So I would say this is the main reason I chose to still finish this game. Another reason is that I finish things I start in life in general anyway. But looking at it directly as a standalone product/game, I wouldn't really recommend it. I played it this late because all these years the design choices and business practices surrounding this game (and similar developer's business choices that have been made over the last decade), I just don't support or jive with. I only finally got it cause of a huge discount and boredom. This game... you could swap out the character sprites and rename it to whatever you want and not much would have changed. It's Final Fantasy 7 in spirit and cosmetics mostly. Outside of that, a lot of this game isn't really good in my opinion. 1) Character writing seems to have taken a nose dive when it comes to Squaresoft's games over the decades. So don't espect good writing here either. 2) It seems that characters like Cloud and Sephiroth and some of the other bad guy characters have been remade to suit the sensibilites of modern times. Which doesn't sit well with me as these were not these character's personalities. I think they would fit well in community forums run by Gen Z emo goth community members or alphabet/rainbow community forums. Not original Final Fantasy 7 fans. 3) Somehow the voice acting for some characters gets worse as the game progresses. Especially Aerith. Her voice acting in the last 2 chapters is horendous and the shift is so large so quickly. 4) I don't know what part of this game was strategy? Maybe someone can tell me. The systems... I'm not sure if they just made the impact of the systems minimal or what, as it didn't really matter who had what materia or what way you chose to approach the fights. This game has a set way it was designed to be played, it's hard to find nuance. AND THAT'S A TERRIBLE THING TO BE SAID ABOUT A ROLE PLAYING STRATEGY GAME SERIES. 5) SO SO SO SO SO MUCH DAMN PADDING. This is the worst aspect of this game. They took the first 7 hours of the original game and stretched across 40 hours and didn't manage to even add anything substantial. If they actually kept this short, it would have been more memorable. And since I am playing this so late, years after release, this issue is only made MUCH WORSE in the Disc/Part 2 of the REMAKE TRILOGY. 6) The game completely holds your hand. Go hear, don't go there. Walk here, you can no longer run. Stop now and look here. Shimmy through this crack to mask the loading screen 50 thousand times over. I lost cound of how many times I was forced to stop running and walk through a section that had no interaction, no cutscene, no significance and I was left wondering, is there a load screen here? or am I being forced to slow down so as to not finish the game as fast? or am I being forced to look at the graphics which aren't really all that inspiring? It was frustrating as the game arrests control from you many many many times. 7) Sephiroth every 5 minutes has to be some type of fan services? As it ruins that character. 8) Was Cloud always this way as a character? I sense he was written badly in the remake. Maybe to get the attention of gen z? or the rainbow community? 9) The level system meant absolutely nothing in this game. No matter how you approach the game you will finish it. Because this is not an RPG, this is a narrative story game in my opinion. Anyway. I know the Part 2 is even worse, so I honestly don't know if I will play it. Maybe on a huge discount? The extra bonus, INTERmission, I don't know if I will play that too. Seems like a waste of time to me. Next game in my backlog is Banquet for Fools. I have a feeling that will be a much much much better expererience. P.s. I've played FF3, 4, 5, 7. 8. 9. 10, 10-2, 12, 13, 13-2 and FF7 remake. As you can see, I have old school sensibilities. From 13 onwards, FF as a franchise was garbage to me so I stopped playing. I never finished 13 and 13-2.
good game too many buttons i get confused 8.7/10
