FINAL FANTASY III

FINAL FANTASY III ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's always been interesting to me that this specific Final Fantasy, out of all of the others, was the only one to not have a remaster or localization in the west until now. This probably makes it the first time that many people, even die-hard FF fans, have played the "OG" version of FFIII, including myself. So how did this game turn out? Were we missing out on this the whole time? Well, I definitely won't say that this game is perfect, but I will say that this game is my favorite from the NES era of Final Fantasy Games. It feels like FFIII learned all of the right lessons from the previous two games... for the most part. Unlike FFII, FFIII goes by like a breeze. (almost) Every dungeon in the game is straightforward, not having too many different rooms or branching paths. This may seem small, but it adds up over time to create an experience that I enjoyed sitting through a lot more. Another thing that this game does better is having more content to chew on. You now have several optional dungeons and towns in the game that you unlock access to as you progress, half of which lead to optional bosses that unlock summons. This is great for replayability, as you now have the choice to go to these dungeons or towns if you want to further train certain classes and establish certain builds. Speaking of replayability, the biggest thing going for it here is the new job system. I would say that the job system in this game is fine. It gets the job done (pun not intended), but I felt like it was sort of lacking in proper variety. You have a lot of jobs to choose from by the late game, but it felt like too many of them were just weaker versions of others. This ends up limiting the customizability of the jobs in the game, as it creates a more linear, cold-cut progression of job choices and team builds. Why go Summoner when Magus does more damage and has more options? TL:DR, I think the job system in this game is fine, but it leaves more to be desired. Overall, Final Fantasy III gets an 8/10 rating. Now I'm super excited to see what the 16-bit era has to offer.....

a classic JRPG with some QoL updates. Solid choice and passes the $1 per hour check if you want it to.

A massive unfolding adventure, the classic jobs are back with a few new additions. There are a few moments that force you into specific playstyles, otherwise this is the best of the first three games.
