This game does not get nearly enough respect for being one of the most unique and interesting games in the series. It was the first Final Fantasy I ever beat as a kid all the way back on the Game Boy Advance and it is just as much fun as I remember, maybe even more now that I better understand the stat system. The story is one of the best in the series, and I will hear no arguments. If I have any issues with the Pixel Remaster version, it is that it lacks the additional content from other remakes. For that reason, I'd hardly call this a definitive version, but if you want to see a classic in its purest form, you can't go wrong.
Hot take here, I think FFII is more fun that FFI or FFIII. The story was also surprisingly ahead of its time.
Story was great and interesting but the leveling system was not fun at all. The idea behind it is not bad but I cannot say the same thing about the execution of it.
Besides a strange leveling system, it's an improvement over the first game in every way.
i've seen a lot of negatives on the exp system but for me , i dont mind that . Only thing that i find tedious is the amount of doors in this game to forces way too many encounters . Yes , you can turn of encounters but you need that to level your characters as they level through their actions . As for things that i absolutely love is the story . I can feel the struggle of rebellion with those timely and emotional NPC deaths . A must play for the story and soundtracks IMO

The game looks HORRIBLE. I'm a long time fan of the final fantasy franchise and this "remaster" is a disgrace to the original game. Everything there looks like its been drawn by different teams who clearly didn't interact with each other during the process - as a result, the game looks like a mess of different pixel art styles. If possible and if its legal in your jurisdiction - please, do yourself a favor and play the original game via an emulator
I am playing through FF to FF6 and I wasn't sure about my final review of this game, but after playing FF3, I have to say that the one that I recommend is FF2. I wasn't enjoying the gameplay too much; the encounter rate is WAY TOO HIGH (you can barely walk in the dungeons, and keep in mind that these dungeons are big compared to the ones of FF1) and you have to grind a lot with the weapons system and level up of this game. I liked the idea that characters can work with all the weapons and magic spells (The characters are quite customizable), but you will enventually find an enemy or boss in a figth in which you wont have any of the rigth skills to figth them and then you will have to grind for a while in order to train with that one specific skill. LOVED the music and the story is good (more entertaining and the characters are more complex) the writers took the opportunity and gave us a stronger story in the second installment of the franchise. Honestly, it's a good game, but you do need a good amount of patience with the weapons / magic system, and thank god for the encounter: off button of the game; this option really makes the game way more enjoyable (I wish I had found out sooner about this option; I discovered I could turn off the encounters near the end of this game).
