Filmmaker Tycoon

I am viscerally angry at this game. What is represented and described is simply not there. This is barely a step up from a mobile clicker game. How can I tell you how bad this is? "Design the Movie Studio of your dreams. Construct a Scriptwriting Office, Post-Production Studio, Research Lab, Movie Sets, and more.." Um, no. Actually there isn't any more than those buildings. They all look pretty much exactly the same. You can't rotate them. Just stamp them down and move on with no personality or customization. Oh, and the 'movie studio of my dreams' might have more decorative objects than one bench and one trash bin. "Filmmaker Tycoon's Equipment System is modeled after real world cameras and lenses. Each Camera and Lens Kit offers something different. You get to decide what cameras and lenses you want to use with your films." I assure you, you won't care. You will be churning out movies like an assembly line. Click this, click that. Movie done. Move on to the next one. What camera I used had little impact. "Mix and match over 100+ scenes to make the movie of your dreams. Each scene can be further customized with background scenes and characters." Match the genre of the scene to the genre of the movie and move on. It's a matching game. There is no thought necessary or creativity required. Want to make a Romance combined with a Thriller? Prepare to have your movie bomb because you mixed the wrong scenes together. "Each character in Filmmaker Tycoon is unique and has their own traits and behaviors. Keep a close eye on your employees or else something terrible will happen on set." No. No they are not 'unique'. They have 'traits' (that are applied to almost all of them equally the same) that have no effect on their performance. They get 'tired', so they don't get to be in the next movie. You know what? I don't have enough airquotes to deal with this. The actors are completely generic. Just match their skill to the movie and move on. The Pause button is "COMING SOON!" Seriously. They put an exclamation point on it, like I should be really excited by a fundamental basic feature that they didn't bother with. I hate this game. I want to find this game in a dark alley and deal with it personally. I can't even continue picking it apart in this review because literally everything is wrong with it. It's bad...really bad. I deeply, deeply regret that I played for more than two hours, desperately hoping there was more to the game than what I experienced--there wasn't. Not only do I want a refund. I want extra compensation for the time in my life I can never get back. Everyone involved with the development should be embarrassed, but I'm sure they're laughing all the way to the bank. Expect this game to be abandoned. I do.

I kept waiting for something to click, but it never did. Even after getting past the tutorial, nothing really opened up. I was just moving through menus and systems that never felt interesting or rewarding. At some point I realized even simple things were taking longer than they should. Moving objects, trying to shape a scene, it all felt weirdly restricted for no real reason. It just never came together, and I stopped because I didn’t see a reason to keep going.

DO NOT BUY, AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Game development was stopped in 2020 shortly after early access launch, the game was given full release in 2023 with no additional work done to the game. A warning sign was when a developer said 'updates will not be that frequent due to waning interest in the game.' in January 2021. Developers have taken control of the discussions and you may get banned like me if you tell people what happened to this game. For a couple of years, the word was that this game was going to be redesigned but it never happened, all talk of the rebuild was deleted when this game was taken out of Early Access. If you did buy the game, here are my thoughts on it. Personally I liked the direction that the game was going in despite its many shortcomings but I would only recommend this game to those who want to try it on the cheap or want to play a basic movie studio game experience, if you want something like The Movies you won't find it here. It seems that the developers got spooked after the Early Access launch, the game was too basic for what gamers were hoping for and that was a game that could match The Movies. The hiring section of the game is way too basic, it is not divided into male and female etc. and it was a little hard to figure out the researchers I needed for my lab but the tip is to look at the symbols in hiring and you'll find what you need. If you want new sets you got to build a scouting location building and then research a new location before you can build it as a set. There's no speed option so it is one speed or nothing, there is a pause button something that was said to not be around when the game was first released in Early Access. The graphics don't look that bad, you see your workers going around, sitting down etc. but the downside is that you're just looking at a bunch of buildings while putting films together. There is no way to make a beautiful movie studio with paths and roads and everything else all nicely lined up. All the set buildings are the same except for different names, you can't see what is going on inside the buildings. You can watch your movies but there is no exit option so you got to watch it all the way through. You don't see any actors on a stage etc. so it is not like the Movies but overall it isn't a terrible game (Dream Factory was way worse), the developer should have stuck with it instead of retreating unless retreating was the plan all along, it is hard to trust developers in Early Access these days.

I think the developer has abandoned this game. The game has a feature where you make a movie, you click finish, it gets reviews and you get money based on the review by the AI, but half way into the game its stops working. You can cant finish movies or advance, and the game is broken because of it. I made a video sent it to the developer 3 months ago and I tried the game today and it still has not been fixed. Has all of the same bugs despite me uninstalling then reinstalling on a new game.

I really wanted to like this game. I've waited so long for a successor of the movies game which does not run properly on Win 10) and you can't find any copies to buy. But this unfortunately is not. I really hope the Dev does it's job and updates the game so it is worth the buck and fun to play. And now more than i week has passed since the launch of the game without any livesigns of the dev. I'am still waiting on proof that this was not a complete abandoned scam. Please proof me wrong and i will re buy the game when it gets better. For the current state: -even basic functions (even the Pause Button?) are missing -game loop is not very exciting because so much content and features are missing -buggy -You can only make short videos out of some random scenes. So nothing makes sense. Why even bother to put in audio for this nonsense? -You can't select the genre or have multiple movie projects -No statistics, timeline, competition or whatsover -feels like a cobbled together mobile game This game could be so great if a loot more effort for it would be done. But i wouldn't bet on it. If you look it up on steamcharts i would guess about 200 copies have sold at max and no one plays this turd anymore. That would generate about 3500 bucks, Update 5 months after release: no Updates done, game is dead. Just another Scam

honestly its a disappointment. the concept is great and it is interesting to see your own movies. but the lack of consistency or control in the screen writing, acting, or even the very plot in the movie itself leaves the game to be very uninteresting. that said it isn't a total loss as the game is in early access and has potential. it is over priced for the lack of content it currently has in my opinion. hopefully the developers are planning a massive content update to fix the issues i listed.

Game is crap. For as crappy it is, it takes longer to load than games I have that are more detailed and engrossing. This game NEEDS a LOT of work, and is definately NOT worth $15.

Don't bother with this game. Unless the developers fundamentally change the AI of the studio layout, the visual mechanics of the park management are just cosmetic with no real purpose. All buildings are representational and only matter that they are in the park, regardless of where, so this could just be a card game since the classic 3D tycoon-management sim element is almost meaningless and there to keep the player occupied till the 2D functions are queued to proceed. I hope the developers radically change the game to be more of a modern adaptation of The Movies game, but at this time, the game's development is on the same path as Airport Tycoon (2000) and all it's stupid sequels.
