Fear for Sale: Endless Voyage Collector's Edition

A pretty solid HOP game. + The voice acting, although a bit hammy at times, was far from the usual wooden monotone rubbish in most of these games. It was actually 'acting' rather than 'reading'. + The music wan't too jarring, mostly fitted the scene, and some of it was actually rather good. + The graphics were nice; not exceptional and a bit blurry at times (esp in HOPs), but certainly did the job. + Pretty interesting story line, especially at the start, and generally well written to boot. + Proper English used; a rare thing. ("Shuttlecock" rather than "bird", for example.) Not once was I forced to do the usual translation from HOP-speak to English. (This isn't just the difference between American and British English, as anyone who's played many HOPs will appreciate.) - Some really obscure visual clues for HOPs. You know the kind of thing; this is a silhouette of a random jumble of black; now go find it. Sometimes came down to simply clicking and hoping. And even when I lucked in, I wasn't really sure why on a few occasions. - Fairly weak ending for the main story. Maybe developers should start and the end and work backwards so that it doesn't look they are just phoning it in for the last dozen scenes? - The puzzle bits were mostly very easy, which contrasts with the rest (see below). - The bonus chapter was a bit sloppy in places. Although it was fun, it was quite clearly an afterthought, and was lacking in quality compared to the original. +- Some of the 'clever' dynamics were a bit confusing to someone who gets into the 'rules' for HO games. This is good because it's innovative and refreshing, and bad because at times it can be pretty confusing and frustrating. +- It seemed to me to pretty darn hard in places. I'm far from new to this genre, but I can't remember the last time I had to use any hints at all, let alone this many. And the HOPs themselves (at least to start with) seemed incredibly difficult. Not unfairly, let it be said. I actually liked this. Having to minutely examine every small part of the scene, rather than casting an eye over it and simply picking things out. But some may not be so keen on this. Overall then, a recommend if you like the genre and don't mind a bit more of a challenge.

A casual point-and-click adventure with an intriguing story, hidden-object scenes, and very easy puzzle mini-games. All in all, it's quite mediocre. The puzzles would be very easy indeed for people familiar with this genre. Too easy. Otherwise, nothing in particular stands out. The voice acting is horrible, there are many clichés, no character development, etc. It's only the story, really, that pulls this game up a bit from the countless other games in this genre. Note that the name [I]Fear for Sale[/I] is silly and has nothing to do with anything.

This is a really boring game. All looks nice but you've seen it all before, and the story is uninvolving.
