不好玩,战斗模式的本质就是QTE,格挡好了就能赢。
This game is a hidden gem for people who like the combat of Valkyrie Profile and games with active blocks/parries. The game uses something similar to an active time battle system so it's essentially 'real-time'. The story is delivered and short bits between each level. Very simple and to the point. I found the story and writing to be better than expected though a bit confusing most times. Though, I keep coming back to this game for the combat alone. If you ever catch it on sale, it's definitely worth the purchase. Very fun game once the blocks/parries and combo attacks sink in.

Fast and yet strategic, Fallen Legion Rise to Glory actually caught me by surprise by it's "minimalistic" interface yet mechanically deep gameplay and beautiful presentation despite my wrongful expectations. Basic gameplay is very easy to get into; button masher style game where one button corresponds to commanding a party member to attack, while also building combo bar to unleash their specials. But later on enemies start to get stronger and/or numerous and have to mind your parry timings. All this is presented with an approachable learning curve however, and the timing is rather lenient, so you'll eventually get there. Aside of the satisfying gameplay you also have an amazing soundtrack and visuals accompanying your entire adventure. Pretty amazed how much production value it has. You're also offered lots and lots of choices that affects not just the battle you're on (creating a little roguelite-ish experience), but also the entire story; and even secrets; allowing some fresh view of the same tried story of two emperors fighting for the throne. That said, as an RPG where you expect some kind of power progression, whatever progression you have felt rather minimal, and equipment pieces in form of gemstones can be rather tedious to grind since you have to do one stage completion to get them and even then whatever effects they have are randomly generated. Characters only level up (or actually, evolve) through story events, and even then they're locked behind choices, so you can easily screw your playthrough. The mechanical combat system is not without it's faults, as sometimes combat can get rather messy with enemies scoring chains of attacks and you can only parry once in a while; trying to get back your footing can be difficult. Enemy variation is also an issue, resulting in a repetitive feeling. Playing in short bursts is recommended. Overall the whole satisfaction comes from the anticipation of what happens next from your series of choices and the good feeling of scoring perfect blocks of increasingly tricky attack behaviors. After all, only the truly skilled one can become Emperor.
Neat game. Felt fresh in its presentation/gameplay style, is fast paced, linear, and upbeat through and through. Can't say that I care for the writing, but the combat and choice system that's tied to some secrets are pretty good. Parrying may be a little difficult to do when the battles get chaotic for some folks, but I love spastic and chaotic games so no problem here. I will say that for those seeking a super casual experience, be weary as it may take a little getting used to parrying if you're not good with timing based mechanics. Lastly, I love the art style. That's it.
Fallen Legion: Rise to Glory developed and published by YummyYummyTummy is a genre-blending title that combines real-time combat, political storytelling, and visual novel-style decision-making into a structure that feels both distinctive and occasionally uneven. Rather than following a conventional RPG formula, it presents two intertwined narratives set within a collapsing empire, allowing players to experience the same conflict from different viewpoints. This dual-perspective approach adds a layer of narrative ambition, giving the game a broader scope than its relatively contained structure might initially suggest. Combat is the centerpiece of the experience and arguably its most defining feature. Battles take place on a 2D plane, where players command a small group of spectral warriors known as Exemplars. Each character is tied to a specific input, and managing them effectively requires both timing and awareness. The system blends real-time action with a rhythmic cadence, encouraging players to coordinate attacks, chain abilities, and execute well-timed defenses. Perfect blocks and counters play a significant role, turning defensive play into an active and rewarding part of combat. While the mechanics can feel demanding at first, they gradually reveal a satisfying depth as players learn to control the pace of encounters and maintain momentum. Interwoven with the combat is a decision-making system that directly influences both narrative progression and gameplay conditions. Throughout the story, players are presented with choices that must often be made quickly, reinforcing the sense of urgency tied to leadership during a time of crisis. These decisions can alter the direction of the narrative while also granting immediate bonuses or penalties, creating a constant tension between short-term advantage and long-term consequence. However, the impact of these choices is not always clearly communicated, which can make outcomes feel less predictable than intended. The narrative itself is built around themes of power, responsibility, and the moral ambiguity of leadership. Each campaign offers a different perspective on the same political struggle, encouraging players to engage with both sides to gain a fuller understanding of the world. While this structure adds depth, the storytelling can feel dense, with long stretches of dialogue that slow the pacing between combat sequences. For players who enjoy text-heavy experiences, this can be engaging, but others may find the balance between action and exposition uneven. Visually, the game stands out with its hand-painted art style and detailed character illustrations. The 2D presentation gives it a distinct identity, with expressive designs that bring both the characters and the world to life. The Exemplars in particular are visually memorable, each with unique animations that reinforce their roles in combat. The soundtrack complements this presentation with energetic and dramatic compositions that enhance the intensity of battles and the weight of key narrative moments. Despite its strengths, the game does struggle with repetition. While the combat system is engaging, encounters can begin to feel similar over time, especially as the game introduces few new mechanics to expand on its foundation. The structure of moving from battle to dialogue to decision points remains consistent throughout, which can make the overall experience feel cyclical. Difficulty can also be inconsistent, with certain sections presenting sudden spikes that may frustrate players still adapting to the combat system. Another limitation lies in the lack of traditional RPG elements such as exploration or extensive customization. The experience is largely linear, focusing on set sequences rather than open-ended progression. While this keeps the pacing focused, it also reduces the sense of discovery and variety that some players may expect from the genre. The game prioritizes its core systems over breadth, which can make it feel somewhat constrained despite its ambitious ideas. Even with these shortcomings, the game succeeds in offering something genuinely different. Its blend of mechanics creates a unique rhythm that sets it apart from more conventional RPGs, and its willingness to experiment gives it a strong sense of identity. It may not fully realize all of its concepts, but it delivers enough originality to leave a lasting impression. In the end, Fallen Legion: Rise to Glory is a game defined by its creative approach and willingness to take risks. It offers a compelling mix of action and storytelling that, while occasionally inconsistent, remains engaging for those willing to invest in its systems. It stands as an example of how indie RPGs can push boundaries, even if the execution doesn’t always match the ambition. Rating: 6/10
