As of right now, I don't recommend it. Needs a lot of marinating so just play Winkeltje, (or I recommend Teddy's heaven (odd name but it really hit the shop itch). It's supposedly Winkeltje 2, but it's missing quite a bit of the core elements from the first game. No alchemy, no baking. Weird swindler crafting station. There's really not much improvements or quality of life. Space is still limited and awfully claustrophobic. They introduced a room perk system to change things up a bit, tiny bit. There are added crafting stations (smelter) that's just a giant hassle if you go that craft (it takes space and a long time to smelt crap). -You can't see if said item is already stock on the shelf when restocking, you can see if you go to the main menu catalog, look for your item and it'll show. That's way too much time consuming and there should be a tooltip when restocking to see if the item is listed&amount. -Weapon display is ONE item, in a ridiculous hanger-looking thing. not even a proper weapon rack, where you can list more than one. - No open to clear all from a shelf, have to either remove the shelf and re-place it or manually click each slots to clear it. -Your house is useless, can expand but can't use it for anything else. -Pretty empty town. -Most of the furniture are exactly the same model from the first game and really no new "main" furniture, like shelves. -had some bug ( placing decoration on certain spot of the entrance would prevent from shop opening), but they fixed it already. tutorial is pretty janky still. I feel the EA listing page is a tad misleading; it doesn't have all the stuff it show in the description (like pies/flourished town). That should be in future content/road map and not advertising it.
Had a lot of fun with Winkeltje and completed everything there was to do. I was eager to play Faire Trade. When it launched I immediately got multiple founder edition copies for my family, but all of us ended up very disappointed. There are a bunch of fun new things to do, but the overal user experience is worse in many ways. The UI feels unfinished and unclear and many processses are clouded in extra steps that feel unnecessary. The crafting UI is worse than the one in Winkeltje. The trader lacks options and filters that Winkeltje did have. I'm sure all of this gets fixed eventually but for now, I can't recommend this. I might come back in a year or maybe two.
Unfortunately I can't recommend Faire Trade right now. I loved Winkeltje and have played 50+ hours of it here on Steam and even bought it on Switch (before I had a Steam Deck) and probably played another 20+ hours there. I was excited to get into this game just as hard, but it's really disappointing compared to Winkeltje. I didn't play long before refunding but these are the main issues I had: - The game immediately looks identical (from the characters to the opening plot) to Winkeltje, which...isn't this a sequel? I could play the old Winkeltje I already own. - The shop is super small to start and I hate that we still are bound to clicking on areas we're closest to (hard to explain) - The addition of a new desk for the travelling merchant is irritating. - The town is a cute idea but seems wholly unnecessary - The home feels the same way- I don't actually want a full life sim, the charm of the original game was literally just opening and running your shop. Why do we have to sleep at night? There's no energy mechanic (thank God!)? I suppose it'd be cute to decorate your home, but I didn't make it that far. - The crafting stations are confusing. I wanted my speciality to be clothing, so I was selling linens. I thought I could buy a sewing machine. But there didn't appear to be one. Instead I ended up with a swindle, which crafts potions? I couldn't get another crafting station because I only had enough favour for that one and then I was going to be forced into making potions to finish the tutorial. I ended up quitting/refunding at this point. I think the game will be better with time; I'll wait for EA to finish and try it out again. It's a shame as I supported Winkeltje through it's early access and loved it so much. I was hoping this would be an improvement, the quality of life features from Winkeltje already present with even more new mechanics and items to craft and stock but the beginning was so frustrating that I didn't even want to keep playing.
Game is likely to be worth once fully complete. However, I can't recommend the game at it's current implementation. You'll get about 3-8 hours before you'll notice some QOL improvements that would make the experience better. Essentially very similar to their original game, but now you have access to a town, farmland, and a home. It appears there will be additional locations added later. A guild, a tavern, and such places exist but currently empty. Improvements I'd like to see: 1. Fast Travel / Bicycle of some sort because running back/forth to certain areas like your farm, the town, then the shop will get boring very fast. Nothing attracts me between these locations (for example, nothing free to farm or surprise events to happen). 2. Better sorting/filtering. At the moment, when crafting, there's honestly some things I don't want to bother crafting as I progress. Let me filter by materials on-hand, or specific materials. I don't want to craft with Copper anymore, let me focus on Steel. 3. Placement of products - The addition of something to hold your sword, or a armor stand is great, but if I want to put a whole isle of the same shield I can't do that. I have to manually select EVERY single display stand. 4. Guests appear to only purchase 1-2 products at a time, sometimes 3. Are there no incredibly rich guests that will stop by and make a few additional purchases? I guess future improvements will have something similar since there's a guild and a travelling seller that visits. 5. I don't want to farm EVERY plot of land or EVERY furnace I have. Maybe it's just me, but I'll have 50 furnaces running and over time will become tedious to maintain as I have to select each one individually. Same goes for my farming land. 6. Let me adjust font. I'd like to be able to see a lot about a product on a single page without having to scroll to see what tags are set for a product. 7. Let me filter by tags or search tags. I want to setup an armorsmith area, but have to browse around to find the knight armor stand. Sometimes it's obvious, but other times not so obvious. Thanks and hope you enjoy your shop!
Important: It's in early access. So while it's a functional game a lot of features are still missing. If you like a finished game than I recommend to buy: Winkeltje If you want to support or helpout the developer than buy the game. If you expect a fully functional game with a ton of 'fun' features than don't buy it yet. I think the following things can be improved: ☐ Events ☐ Challenges ☐ UI improvements - ☐ Best selling product of the day overview (the prices change every day, but you require to click every single item at crafting to see the price) - ☐ If you want to check/inspect a certain craft you constantly have to close the entire crafting menu to inspect the next one. ☐ Many items have placeholder names (not an issue for me) ☐ Grid placement is rough (could be a bit finer) ☐ Balancing: - ☐ Product item price. (Items that require a single ingredient is mostly the most profitable, higher tiers require more ingredients but mostly make less profit). - ☐ Furniture (attraction vs size vs price). Similiar in Winkeltje I endup buying 40x a small flowertable because it's the smallest but yet highest increase in attraction. ☑ Staff for restock or selling (shortkey J) - ☐ At level 15+ i'm limited to one Staff that is restocking but can't keep up with the amount of customers. All the above things are not 'bad', it's just an early game release. So people should either have patience or buy it later.
love it! it looks so cute controls are great scamming villagers is great too hehe
It's winkeltje....... Why make this new version? Just don't understand it. For now it's not wurth the price if you already own winkeltje.
I was a little frustrated over the announcement of this game, because it just seemed like a quick cash and grab due to how similar it is to Winkeltje. I played quite a bit of Winkeltje as a cosy game and it was quite enjoyable. This game is enjoyable, especially for having an Early Access tag. I just hope that the developers listen to the community and further flesh out their sequel. In comparison to the previous game, I like the fact that there is a little more world exploration as the previous game felt a little too static, whereas this world feels more lived in. Having a garden plot in a separate zone is a bit more true to an allotment. However, I feel that it would be better to give the players the choice to use the allotment or arrange the plants in a garden behind the shop as it was done previously. Like with plants, I would like more options for collecting raw resources for crafting, because it feels a bit limited at the moment and can be pure luck when waiting for the trader to receive a hefty discount. I would also enjoy more emphasis on creating your dream workshop in comparison to the previous title, because I would prefer to specialise in a specific category of merchandise rather than being heckled by customers for not having a specific product that I had at the start of the game before I got some footing to build out my inventory.
