I put off playing this game, hoping that there would be an eventual update, but given the dev's silence I figured I might as well try it out given that it's been gathering dust in my library for some time now, and I really enjoyed WTNC. All in all, I have to say that I was really quite pleasantly surprised. I binged the game (ambassador - raiden route) over two days and was pretty hooked. It's clear where budget cuts had to be made and corners had to be cut, but all in all I think it's a really solid story with some wonderful characters. The fact that there are three full storylines/paths was incredibly ambitious of the team, and while I wish that there had been more romance content (and perhaps a proper epilogue?), I overall am pretty impressed. The big downsides for me are the music (I loved the music in WTNC, and for some reason the music in this game just doesn't... go that well with the scenes?) and the occasional typos, though those are (strangely) more prevalent at the start of the game, when that sort of thing would make an impression on a reader. At times the character expressions also don't match up with the writing. But given that the devs already cut the price of the game considerably I'm willing to forgive them these slight downsides. It wouldn't be hard to fix up the game, but given that I'm not sure if we're ever getting Call Me Under, I assume that this probably isn't high on their to-do list.
Game is now fully completed, and I am really enjoying it. The character art is gorgeous, so beautiful that I almost want to romance all the characters. Writing is of a very good standard, and I'm extremely interested in the story. The characters you meet all have plenty of depth, and interesting back stories. I can imagine myself doing more than one play through of this.
I’ve read all the negative comments, and I understand the frustration — I felt it too! Despite that, I still want to recommend Errant Kingdom. For all the problems this game has, there is still so much to love about it — it would be a huge injustice to overlook all the amazing and wonderful parts. 🩵✨ Yes — the romantic endings are a let-down. Half the romanceable characters feel unattainable in the end, even if you have technically romanced them successfully. This is the biggest reason for all the unhappy reviews, and it’s the main issue holding this game back from being something truly amazing. … But! The rest of what this game has to offer is worthy of applause! 👏🏻 If you’ve played ‘When The Night Comes’ then you’re familiar with the writing style, and you’ll still meet here — in Errant Kingdom — equally warm and charming characters, with so much personality and love written into them, they’re absolutely impossible not to adore to bits. The dialogue is fun and sparkling with humor, and it had me grinning from ear to ear most of the time. The world-building is clever and complex — the way the characters interact with each other and how their stories intertwine — it gives the world of Errant Kingdom a lot of depth and realism, and this is rare to find in VN games. The characters themselves feel alive and multidimensional, including the lovable and fun supporting side-characters — they are a delight! :) The artwork is nothing short of glorious. (Yes, it did bother me when the characters in some key CG images didn’t look very much how they looked in their sprite form — it felt jarring, to a point when I was thinking ‘Who are you? You’re lovely, but you’re not the person I was with just a moment ago. Evil twin!' 😆 But all the images individually are still very beautiful. I’m especially impressed with the character sprites in this game — those are damn stunning in their attractiveness without being too idealized or simplistic. They manage to retain something very human and imperfectly-real in their beauty. And it’s impressive how much relatable emotion they convey with just a few subtle changes to their unique facial expressions. They’re exceptionally well done. It also made me happy when the characters changed outfits and hairstyles throughout the story — all of it intricately rendered and gorgeous to look at. This part definitely deserves extra kudos! 🎉 Backgrounds are cozy and atmospheric, and there are fun details and skillful lighting in them that brings these environments to life with a little sprinkling of magic! ✨. The music is lovely too (even if I did wish for a bit more variety of tracks), it was chosen well for adding immersive atmosphere to the story, and I enjoyed listening to it without wanting to turn it off, like I would in many other games. So, after this long rant… You may not exactly get your happily-ever-after in Errant Kingdom, but if you’ll pick you route right, you’ll still get hours of enjoyment out of the whole experience. And if you’ll start feeling frustrated with how things are going in your route, try switching your role between Ambassador/Knight/Nomad — this could be the key to unlocking better romance options for your chosen love interest. Experiment a little, and you’ll find some lovely gems of content for your efforts, no matter which path you’ll pick. Even if the ending might end up being not very satisfying. This game had me frustrated many times, but somehow … it still ended up on the list of my favorites, and had me writing a long-ass review 😆. I hope this will help you decide if you want to try it out or not. If you do try it…. Welcome to the club of helplessly in-love, a little broken-hearted yet still hopeful romantics, keeping faith it will be better in the next game! 🥲 ______________🌙🩵✨ For the creators of the game (if they might read this someday): Dearest creators of the game, 💕please don’t let the challenges you’ve faced and the negative feedback discourage you! Your fans adore the wonderful characters and worlds you create. You have so much talent and imagination, and we all can tell how much love you have to give though the characters you create and share with us. A lot of us will wait an extra year or more if that’s what it takes to get another one of your creations in its full un-rushed glory! And please don’t let anyone tell you that ‘saving the kingdom’ is more important than love :) By which I mean — a fun adventure is definitely a huge part of the attraction, and I will gladly take your hand for the next one too, but it’s the emotional connection and romance that matter most to players who come to VN games. Many of us will overlook minor plot-holes and small technical issues if we get to fall madly in love and find a happy ending that feels meaningful and tangible. If we get to keep that warm and fuzzy feeling of being in love lingering after the story is over — that’s what keeps us coming back. This is what made ‘When The Night Comes’ such a hit — it wasn’t perfect, but we felt all the love! We were absolutely smitten and now we want more :) . And we’ll still be here when you’re ready to spoil us rotten with more of your enchanting, sweet and sexy, and a little kinky romance. 💖 Thank you for the memorable and heartwarming experiences you’ve given us, whether we’ve felt them with the heart of a Hunter, or an Ambassador, or a Knight, or a Nomad. You have our support and faith. And … Rai has my undying love now :) I did enjoy the company of the whole errant crew, but it's Rai's ridiculous humor and his warm personality saved the whole Errant Kingdom for me. With shiny story-sparkles in my eyes, - One of your fans 🌙🩵✨ P. S. I originally purchased this game on itch.io, so the stats here on Steam are not reflecting accurately my actual playtime or in-game achievements.
A pleasant visual novel to say the least. While tilting a little on the simpler side, it is still nice and there's plenty of potential in replays for the slight differences in routes and LIs. If anything my one little issue would be that there are times information or characters are just there, as if I should know about them already but nowhere did this come up. Most likely this info comes from other routes, so it can be jarring for a first playthrough and take you out of the moment.
I had fun! Some parts of the ending kinda came from left field, but overall the ending was pretty great. The characters are cute and well designed too.
I originally bought this game in early access with 2 chapters out and loved the world they were setting up. There was so much potential. But this game falls into the category of too much time passing between creation and completion and it felt like the Devs got bored and hurried to release the full game so they could move on to the new project. It has a great concept and beautiful artwork and characterizations but they aren't full enough! The choices hardly mattered and the ending was MEH! I wish if they were going to take years to release (and this was the end result) it would have been put on hold while their other project finished and then come back to this one. I would have forgiven that. What was released as a full game just felt like a child's attempt to finish the rest of a grown ups story. This doesn't mean I wont come back for more Lunaris Games, just disappointed that this was what we waited for.
The game has full touch screen support, and it is playing just fine on the Steam Deck. I bought the game knowing of the issues the studio ran into during the pandemic, and yes, it is not as good as When the Night Comes. Still after just playing one route, the only criticism is that the ending feels a little rushed (especially compared to the chapter before). I think regarding the playtime, and the overall feel to it, the game is worth buying, when you like that kind of visual novel, like I do.
An extremely engaging story line that has so many options to shift the story even the slightest bit for completely different outcomes.
A história é interessante e o romance também, não é algo extraordinário, mas dá para passar o tempo.
This game is amazing
