The first time I tried playing this, I had to stop before even getting properly started because of motion sickness. Now I saw this in my library and didn't remember what this was, so I decided to take a look. As I started the game, I remembered why I never played this, but decided to have another go. With the same result. For some reason this is giving me motion sickness almost immediately. Not a bad case, but persistent slight nausea that makes the playing unpleasant.
I'm always loath to not-recommend an indie game, especially one that clearly has a lot of effort and soul put into it. But there just isn't really ... anything here? The puzzles are barely worth calling puzzles - the only time I ever remotely got stuck was because I didn't understand the controls, rather than difficulty because of the mechanics, The levels are pretty but too big and empty, so they just feel like a chore to traverse. The story is very minimal, and even that small amount is only there if you are willing to manually put in the effort to decipher the alien language. While I think this can be a great way to add depth to a story, without that here there's effectively no story at all. There's also an achievement that's apparently bugged, and the vertical mouse sensitivity is independent of the horizontal one and can't be changed which is just really annoying. There's clearly something really cool here with potential. But sadly, it just doesn't really know how to reach the player.
Gameplay-wise it's not so great. While puzzles are diversified enough you don't get bored in the 2/3 hours runtime, it's honestly not challenging or innovative. Puzzles are all mostly bound to the gimmick "move blocks on button to activate lasers" and are not well designed (more ofter than not I've cleared an area without using half the blocks I had). It's also clearly derivative of The Talos Principle in its design (portals that move you from one area to another, the main hub, puzzles often contained in small, ruin-like enclosures in wilderness, etc.). This is slightly annoying and make me think they should have dropped the act completely and stick to purely exploration. Apart from that, the art style and world design is really great. I mean, look at the screen, it's like this during all of the game and it manages to be diversified enough you don't lose interest. The soundtrack is awesome (I love Funk Fiction), it's the reason I bought this in the first place.
I wanted to like it. It's pretty and I like it when games don't hold your hand. Unfortunately the reason it doesn't hold your hand is there isn't much to the game at all. Just a lot of place boxes on pressure pad puzzles that aren't very fun or challenging.
I enjoyed this game for what it was...a mindless puzzle game with a nice soundtrack and well-built world. The puzzle portion is simple and easy to figure out. Put block on pad to activate laser. The worlds within worlds, without much distinction, got VERY confusing. At least make them all look a little different or have circles all over one and squares all over another, etc. I was so turned around most of the time. I'd have enjoyed some direction in that regard. I also found it annoying how much walking around aimlessly was involved... I have seen that in a few open world games like this, but there was really no direction on where things MIGHT be located, so you find yourself literally drifting off to sea sometimes. There wasn't much of a point to two of the puzzles
(big computer thingy and cube with cubes in it..) which was annoying. But thank goodness, because if you didn't pick up all the random cubes, you'd have had to, very impossibly, retrace your steps to find the ones (or one in my case) you were missing.) I'd have given up.
Like I started this out with, I enjoyed it for what it was. I am really glad I got it on sale.
Very short, very easy (it took me 2 hours to finish, and that would have been 15ish minutes less if I hadn't been blind at a certain point and failed to see something that was not even hidden), but pretty and atmospheric.
What the wonderful puzzle journey!
Its somehow similiar like "Talos Principle", but in a very casual way and puzzles are mostly very easy. With much more landscape exploration and finding new mechanics on a foreign planet. Athmosphere is breath taking dense, colorful and beautiful. Maybe best played in one 4 hour session. I liked it very much.
