XBOX One
Mario for memelords, but also a really good platformer. The garbage aesthetic is definitely part of the charm.
Epic Dumpster Bear is a perfect way to use pre-made, cruddy looking assets and still make something extremely entertaining. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32RlOZZqYxs This game is like a bad movie that is very aware of how awful it is. It's a nonsensical storyline filled with really odd looking graphics and gameplay elements. The core of Epic Dumpster Bear is similar to a Sonic or Mario platformer. You go through levels jumping on enemies, collecting items and sliding (bear-crotch first) on poles super fast to traverse levels. The thing is, while the game looks like garbage (pun intended) it absolutely embraces that and creates around it some pretty solid gameplay. While not quite as polished as the titles I mentioned, the actual gameplay is very snappy and responsive. Everything makes sense and I never felt like the game was cheaping out on level design, which is something to worry about whenever I see a game using tons of Unity assets. The enemies are what you would expect from a platformer, even if they don't make much sense. Why are cows for example an enemy in the game? "Because" is honestly a good enough reason if the gameplay around them is solid. I was laughing out loud at the cutscenes because of their wacky storytelling and b-movie hijinks. The bear just wants to eat non-dumpster food but he can't find any, which in reality makes no sense because he could just eat the cows instead. This game is a hidden gem, check it out if you want some solid gameplay and to experience the joy of random Unity assets actually enhancing an experience. You play as a bear whose natural habitat has been destroyed by "an evil corporation" and you are out for revenge. The simple story coupled with the actual gameplay really reminds me of the classic 8-16-bit games such as Mario and Sonic titles. There are seven different worlds, a total of 65 levels, each with its standard set of obstacles/enemies before the exit. There are also plenty of secret exits and bonus levels, some unlockable through use of coins that you collect, others only accessible if you find the secret locations. Not only do you have to find them, you need to get to them as well. There are golden coins that you collect that you can use as in-game currency. You also can collect 3 red coins each level, these are often much more difficult to obtain. Fortunately you do not need to collect all 3 in one go, and can go back for the ones that you have missed. As you play on, you get upgrades to your personal abilities, allowing you to fight enemies better by throwing bombs, by jumping farther and higher with the double jump, etc. The biggest problem most people have with newer platforming games is how responsive the controls are. This game has a learning curve in that the levels get rather challenging, and you need to play with precise controls at times, or face the consequences. The controls are very responsive and precise, and that is part of why this game is good and worthwhile. There are no random floating slipping boxes, you jump when needed and what happens on the screen really reflects how you control your bear. The whole game has a heavy momentum focus, which is very well done. If you run farther and longer without hitting any obstacles in one direction, you go faster, and you jump higher. There is a limit, but in order to slow down from these, you also need to adjust for timing and aerial redirecting at times. On the other hand, jumping from rest will yield much less distance, appropriately so. There is a very predictable wall-grab and slide, as well as a consistent push and jump off walls. There is no problems with the controls of this game whatsoever that I could find playing for quite a while. I sat around the beginning portions of the game for repetitive tries attempting to collect everything, and there are some serious challenges built into almost every level. The levels start off easy to finish, but even in the beginning, it is difficult to grab all of the special coins. Each level has a target for you to try to land in at the end of every level, this is really funny but gives you a last minute platforming quick puzzle to see if you can get to the bulls eye. This seems easy, but gets rather challenging, because there are some pinball bumpers built in to make it especially difficult at times. There are a few short cut scenes explaining what you are doing and why you are doing it. Some others are cryptic in explaining that you are about to use a new upgrade, but whatever, this is a straight up platformer and you learn as you play. This game is fun, it poses decent challenges, and the controls are responsive and predictable, with a heavy focus on momentum. There are lots of hidden secrets and special coins that are difficult to collect in each level. There are seven total worlds and 65 total levels. You have a pinball style target to hit at the end of each level, not to mention your time is recorded as you play. All meme/social commentary/goofiness aside, this is a good game. Epic Dumpster Bear: Dumpster Fire Redux is yet another of literally thousands of console ported retro platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. This one somehow got onto PS4 without any QC at all, despite not being a serious attempt at making a game... This is just trashware. At best, this is the worst, crappiest Super Mario Bros ripoff you ever saw, with a badly rendered 3D low poly bear instead of Mario, bashing your head on blocks to get coins... it gets no better than that, this is an insult to gamers everywhere. But it was never intended to be a serious game for gamers, this is just a cash grab, and a bad one at that. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. PC gamers will be insulted by the presence of console peasant children's toy controller prompts, despite this being on PC. Developers should try to be aware which platform they're developing for. Because this is designed for consoles, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the inferior console gaming appliances that the game was designed for. These are unfortunate compromises and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was a second thought for the console-centric developers. The game is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for consoles forces upon a game. Once more, console peasants have made gaming worse for everyone. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 4 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? Epic Dumpster Bear: Dumpster Fire Redux is relatively cheap at $2, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 11,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product. Note: Because this is more of a "joke" game, intended to draw attention from controversy or in the hopes of going viral because it's "so bad it's good" (but it isn't good at all), there's nothing here to offer to serious gamers. As usual, with most awful/joke games, all the comedians come out of the woodwork. The vast majority of the reviews for this game are joke reviews, such as "this game cured my cancer, saved my marriage, changed my life" etc. Because most of the reviews are as insincere as the game itself is, and if you removed the fake/joke reviews the game would have a markedly different review score, the positive review score for this game should be disregarded.
Epic Dumpster Bear: Dumpster Fire Redux: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is an unusual story for you! It’s about a bear that was forced to eat dumpster food (berk . . . berk) because his original forest habitat was destroyed by an evil corporation. Under his fluffy brown fur grows a burning fire of rage! Oh, this is an angry big bear we have here, and he is thirsty for revenge. Take on the evil corporation in Epic Dumpster Bear: Dumpster Fire Redux! Epic Dumpster Bear: Dumpster Fire Redux is a challenging platformer game where you control a bear through seven worlds (the last world is a bonus for defeating the evil corporation). Each of the worlds has six or seven main levels to play, with an additional three levels which you can purchase if you have enough coins, as well as two hidden levels. The goal in each of the levels is to reach a target sign laid on the floor at the end of the stage and try to land the bear in the middle of the bull’s eye to receive maximum points, which in this case is one hundred. Within each of the levels, you can collect gold and red coins. The gold coins are the easiest of the two to collect as they are usually placed within your run, although some are a bit tricky. The red coins, on the other hand, are very challenging to collect. There are only three of them per level and let me tell you, you’re going to sweat to get them! The good news is that they don’t have any influences to unlock levels. If you manage to gather all of them, well, you are a special bear! It will take you quite of while to master this game. Personally, I would rank Epic Dumpster Bear in the highest tier in terms of difficulty; expect to die frequently. As you move through the levels, you’ll have to deal with a combination of obstacles. Cows, lions, space slugs and other futuristic creatures will usually come at you on the lower main platforms, while birds drop their left-overs on your pretty bear head, and drones shoot at you with some sort of big yellow projectiles. And that’s not all . . . bees and owls will fly in vertical sequences while cannon balls and missiles are introduced! Crocodiles in barrels, snakes in bags and others interesting obstacles will hinder your progress – I’ll let you discover them all! Only an epic bear will be able to reach the end of each world and then confront the main bosses. Even if the difficulty is high, there is a little bit of relief in each of the levels. As soon as you reached a closed dumpster (usually in the middle of each level), the game will automatically save and if you die soon after, you’ll restart from the dumpster saving point, along with all the coins you amalgamated on the first part of the level. Your bear will also have a couple of abilities to help him within some stages. At the start of some of the levels, your bear will be able to headbutt a disk with an exclamation mark on it. This disk will either give your mighty bear a rotten salmon head and a bad case of flatulence which will give him the ability to double jump, or an army helmet which will give him the ability to throw grenades on a few obstacles and on enemies. Bear in mind (lol) that some obstacles can’t be destroyed, such as the spike balls, cannons, snakes in bags and plenty more. Ultimately, to successfully reach the target, you will need a combination of speed and sequences (hit the jump at the right moment). The graphics are not the greatest here and probably the weakest point but on the other hand, the soundtrack is pretty good. I must say that despite having average graphics the game is addictive and challenging. In terms of controls, the best way to play this game is with a gamepad. Positives: ~~~~~~~ + 7 worlds with 65 levels to complete + Plenty of enemies and obstacles + Addictive and challenging from the start + Good soundtracks + Achievements Negatives: ~~~~~~~~ - No trading cards as yet - Not the greatest graphics It’s challenging from the start. Definitely a Hardcore platformer! Help an angry bear to get his revenge against an evil corporation. 6/10 Key provided by developer/publisher for review purposes. Bear-Chan Is Best Girl.
The Goat Simulator of the platform genre. Random nonsensical animal based hijinks in a world filled with assets that while recognizable as such have been used in a way to enhance rather than hinder the enjoyment of the game. Despite logic suggesting that it is just a throwaway game cobbled together quickly the platforming is actually functional and engaging. Winner of the 2018 awards for so bad its good and so stupid its funny. Use of a controller is recommended though.
Why are you looking in the negative reviews, its a perfect game
While this may not win any awards for looks ( although it isn't hideous ) you will keep playing because of the fast action and farting.
