I'm all for loving DS1 and referencing it, but if more than half your game is just copied 1 to 1 I would rather just go replay DS1 that has way better style and combat. Performance is kind of bad for how basic the game is, and the tutorial is just god awful throwing 20 italian words at me that i'm supposed to remember at once. Why cant we just call fire fire and light light, why does it need to be Carpaccio and Mozzarella, it doesn't add anything to the experience, it just makes it confusing and annoying.
I've known this game for a long time and also all the mixed reviews regarding it. It was recently on discount so I thought might as well give it a go, and yeah, it's not the worst, but far from decent. There are a few good things about the game: - There are a lot of build customizations you can do with the masks, aspects, elements, etc. A lot of weapons have unique movesets as well. - I'm a bit biased toward Italian stuffs, but I like the world building of this game. I also prefer a vibrant atmosphere like this to the usual dark & grim of most souls games. - Level design is pretty linear but still has some side areas, exactly the way I like it. - Music is great. Though apparently the good soundtracks are added quite some time after release (weird). The bad things pretty much outweigh though: - Boss design is pretty poor: bad camera, inconsistent AI, attacks without clear telegraphs, unintuitively delayed attacks, too much projectile spam, etc. to list a few issues. Honestly there's 1 single boss in the game near the end that is well made and that I actually liked. - The interesting elements and status effects mechanics and how weapons utilize them are not properly explained in the game. The best explanation for them is in a Steam Dev post for some reason. - Chip damage and status build up on perfect deflecting elemental attacks. Seriously, for all the deflect-based souls-like devs out there, no one likes this. - I know I'm playing on a gaming laptop, but the performance is way too poor considering the graphics is nothing to write home about. Pretty serious frame drops in some areas even at lowest setting, 60 FPS. - Bad mouse & keyboard support. The menus don't work properly at all when using the mouse, have to menu with keyboard exclusively. Also the game crashed 3 times when I was changing the keybinds for whatever reason. Never crashed during gameplay though which is good. - I heard the game is very buggy, at least on release. I didn't encounter any serious bug personally, maybe they fixed them, maybe I was lucky, not sure. So, for a cheap discount, acceptable, I had a decent time with it. Don't think it's worth buying any higher though.
Note personnelle : 9/10.
I can not for the life of me understand all the hate for this game, I have loved every second of it.
