PEAK CINEMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS STORY!!!!!!!THIS GAME!!!!!!THE VISUALS!!!!!!!THE ARTSTYLE!!!!!!!!!THE SOUNDTRACK!!!!!!!!!!THE SFX!!!!!! EVERYTHINNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!! Also this is helping me go through depression, uni, and other personal problems and honestly this is working great. Such good quality for such a low price. You deserve so much praise!!!! Your efforts are fruitful!!!! I don't regret buying this game!!!! I will never regret buying this game!!!! I've actually been looking forward to playing it more than 5 years ago but I couldn't purchase any game back then. I am glad I still remembered I wanted to play Enigma. This is one of the first steam games I've ever purchased!!! I don't regret it!!!! I was so engrossed in the story (first run,
lauro
ending
3
) I actually felt some despair when the credits started rolling because I thought it was just an introduction to the next part of the story but then I thought it was getting kind of long for an introduction then realised these were the end credits... "Wait- This can't be...." lmao But thinking harder I thought that it wasn't that bad after all. The shorter stories are sometimes the best.
And then there was a little continuation after the credits rolls (ending) and I was overjoyed (clapping hands excitedly) (rolls everywhere on the floor while kicking his feet) (starts jumping around and flies to the moon).
I only reached one ending so far, but I thought I had to express what I was feeling as of right now (otherwise it wouldn't feel right). The way the characters were written felt deep and attentive. I loved them!!! I loved the writing!!!! My heart felt healed!!!! I loved how I could resonate with Chester as well!! I am actually still surprised, I have never thought that I would ever stumble upon a game with a main character with this personality !!! This is great !!! I don't regret being alive !!! I don't regret being born !!! Okay this might sound excessive but you should know that I am being 100[strike]000000000[/strike]% honest with my praises!!! This sounds repetitive but I don't know many other words so I'll just say it again to express my opinion about this work of art: I LOVE ITTTTT I LOVE ITTTTTTTTTTTT I LOVE THIS GAMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE The soundtrack does its job very well as well !!! I felt serene and sometimes tense depending on it!!! I thought I could purchase the soundtrack somewhere on steam but it must have been my imagination...orz haha I guess I'll just let the game play in the background for now ^^ ❤❤❤❤ It just feels so motivating ^^ Thank you for making such a wonderful game !!! May luck be on your side on your own journey as well !!! And with this, I shall take my leave !! [edit as of 26/08/2025] I found the special offer bonus mini soundtrack and booklet !! It was in the game's files !! I'm very happy ^^ thank you
fajna historia jak i klimacik wzmocniony niezłym soundtrackiem, polecam każdemu
Envirio is my waifu
Not the best visual novel I've played but definitely worth your money

ENIGMA: is a story-driven visual novel created by Uzumeya and brought to a wider audience by Fruitbat Factory. Released on Steam in 2016, the game positions itself as a mystery adventure built around branching narratives, philosophical themes, and emotional character arcs. Like many titles in the visual novel genre, the primary gameplay consists of reading dialogue and making choices that influence the direction of the story. However, what sets ENIGMA: apart is the way it intertwines its romantic and personal drama with a larger mystery surrounding a mysterious illness and an isolated island community. The story centers on Chester, a man suffering from a deadly disease known as “Enigma.” This illness has begun spreading across the world and appears to be fatal, leaving those infected with little hope of survival. Facing an uncertain future and limited time, Chester embarks on a journey that ultimately leads him to a remote island named Carlyle. The island appears strangely untouched by the global crisis, existing in quiet isolation from the outside world. When Chester arrives there after a mysterious accident, he quickly realizes that the place may hold secrets connected not only to the disease but also to his own past. Soon after arriving on the island, Chester encounters several residents who become central to the narrative. Among them are Colette, a warm and caring young woman who helps nurse him back to health, and her brother Lauro, who is cautious and protective of both his sister and the community. Another important character is Envirio, a mysterious figure whose role in the story varies dramatically depending on the choices the player makes. These characters serve as the emotional anchors of the narrative, and their relationships with Chester evolve in different ways depending on the path the player chooses to follow. The narrative structure of ENIGMA: is heavily built around branching story routes. At key moments throughout the story, the player must make decisions that determine which direction the narrative takes. These choices can influence character relationships, reveal different pieces of information about the island, and ultimately lead to entirely different endings. In total, the game contains numerous endings, each offering a slightly different perspective on the story’s mysteries. Because no single route reveals the entire truth behind the island or the disease, players are encouraged to replay the game and explore multiple paths in order to assemble the complete picture. One of the strengths of the game lies in how it gradually unfolds its mystery. Early chapters focus on establishing the island’s peaceful atmosphere and introducing its residents, but subtle hints suggest that something is not quite right. As the story progresses, new revelations challenge the player’s assumptions about the characters and the nature of the world itself. The disease known as Enigma, the strange isolation of Carlyle Island, and Chester’s own background slowly intertwine into a larger narrative puzzle that becomes clearer only after experiencing several different story routes. The tone of the writing often leans toward introspection. Chester is portrayed as a thoughtful protagonist who is deeply aware of his mortality. His reflections on life, relationships, and the meaning of existence form an important part of the narrative’s emotional core. These moments of quiet contemplation balance the more dramatic revelations of the story and give the characters a sense of depth. Rather than focusing purely on romance or mystery, the narrative explores themes of identity, regret, and the human desire to find purpose even in the face of inevitable loss. Visually, the game follows the traditional style of Japanese visual novels with expressive character portraits and detailed illustrated backgrounds. The artwork captures the tranquil beauty of the island setting, presenting forests, coastlines, and village scenes that create a sense of calm isolation. Character designs are colorful and distinctive, helping each member of the cast stand out during conversations. While the visual presentation is not technologically advanced compared to modern visual novels, the art direction succeeds in establishing a strong sense of atmosphere. Music also plays a significant role in shaping the emotional tone of the experience. The soundtrack features gentle melodies and reflective themes that complement the quieter moments of the story. During more dramatic scenes, the music shifts to darker or more intense compositions that reinforce the sense of tension and mystery. Although the soundtrack remains relatively subtle throughout most of the game, it helps maintain immersion and supports the narrative pacing. Despite its strengths, the game is not without its flaws. The pacing can occasionally feel slow, especially during early sections where the story focuses heavily on dialogue and character introductions. Because multiple routes share certain scenes, players replaying the game to unlock additional endings may encounter repeated segments that feel familiar. Additionally, the interactive elements remain limited to dialogue choices, which may disappoint players expecting more complex gameplay mechanics. However, these limitations are fairly typical for the visual novel genre and do little to diminish the overall storytelling experience. For players who enjoy narrative-focused games, the branching structure and multiple endings provide strong replay value. Each route reveals new layers of the story, encouraging players to return and explore alternative possibilities. Ultimately, ENIGMA: succeeds as a compelling mystery visual novel that blends emotional storytelling with philosophical reflection. Its intriguing premise, memorable characters, and layered narrative make it an engaging experience for players willing to immerse themselves in its slower pace. While it may not offer extensive gameplay systems, its strength lies in its writing and the sense of discovery that comes from unraveling the island’s secrets piece by piece. Rating: 8/10
The real enigma is why I played so long. I ended up with a lot more questions than answers, and at the first ending it left so many loose ends open that it felt unsatisfying. I found out that there's multiple endings, but I honestly have no desire to go back through just to eke out whatever missing pieces of lore weren't provided the first time. To me, that is a massive oversight in a game. Almost nothing about the story is ever explained, which left me with a very hollow play experience.
