Oh my god, this game sucks. It made me so angry the entire time I was playing. It actually started out pretty well. I was intrigued. Was this boy attacked? Murdered? Did he come back from the dead? But then it went downhill fast. After playing through, I get what message the game was going for, but it was just so poorly executed. The only part I really connected with was the dollhouse scene and the display of the child hiding under the kitchen table. I kept thinking, when the hell is this going to end? I even replayed it a few times to see if I was just being harsh on my first run... Nope, still hated it. Especially the walking pace. Normally slow walking in games doesn’t bother me, I love walking sims! But here? I legit sat and watched my character stroll for ten minutes straight with nothing happening. Come on. There are tons of reviews claiming the negative ones are from people the game “wasn’t made for.” Well, this game was made for me. I adore philosophical, atmospheric indie walking sims. I’ve played tons and love them. But this one? Nope. Game Rating: 1/5 (I’ll give credit for the art style, but that’s about it.) EDIT: Came back after 3 years just to grab the last achievements. I hate unfinished games sitting on my account. The opening quote screen froze for ten entire minutes (yes, I counted), and no amount of clicking or button mashing moved it along. I tried reopening the game multiple times, no dice. Then the store page wouldn’t load at all, stuck on a blank Steam blue screen like it didn’t exist. Eventually, I gave up and had to use a Steam achievement manager just to unlock the achievements. Ugh.

I liked it. Interesting isometric set pieces. Poetic dialogue. Almost a tilt-shifted feeling to the visuals. Obviously, it's not for everyone. But if you enjoyed Kentucky Route Zero, the visuals in Below, the Blendo games, Hart Island, or any other art-house obscurity, then I would give this a try. I think we need more instances of games that challenge our collective expectations of what a game is or what a game could be. Emporium is definitely part of that conversation. Thanks, Tom!
A very insubstantial and boring game where all you do is walk in a straight line through static rooms for a mind-numbingly long amount of time.
Played it a while ago and I think I liked it. Not for everyone.
Pretty damn pretentious.
Aesthetically esoteric and perfectly lengthed for the story it tells.
It's short, but for under $3.00 CAD, it's worthwhile. The intro-theme reel for Severance reminded me about this game years later.
