About
Eclipse Breaker is a timing‑driven action roguelite that asks you to dodge, parry, and counter in real‑time combat while forging ever‑shifting builds from the divine powers you collect. Conquer procedurally generated dungeons ruled by elemental gods, recruit the lingering spirits of lost allies, and push toward a climactic showdown with the sun‑goddess Solara. Built from scratch yet wrapped in late‑’90s PlayStation flair, every run rewrites the battlefield and your fate until you finally make your last stand.
Every battle balances timing and relentless divine punishment. Dodge attacks, block incoming strikes, and reposition on the battlefield while managing cooldowns, chaining abilities, and seizing the perfect moment to strike.
Procedurally generated dungeons shaped by the elemental gods who rule them. Defeat these celestial warriors and discover new elemental abilities, crafting new builds every run. No two runs are the same.
Select from a roster of Companion Spirits, the lingering souls of Ember’s former friends and party members. They grant powerful abilities, guide her through battle, and challenge her with their own regrets, humor, and memories. Their past lives fuel your fight, and who you bring with you shapes your journey.
Battle a pantheon of bosses and enemies, each with unique attack patterns, elemental abilities, and unpredictable tactics.
In the late ‘90s, a legendary JRPG was released and all but forgotten. OK, maybe it wasn’t…
But if it had, Eclipse Breaker would have been the kind of game you rented from a video store and played obsessively. Now, returning to your save file after 25 years, this lost classic is making its grand return and morphed from a classic JRPG to an action roguelite; fully “remastered” (read: developed from scratch) with smooth mechanics, enhanced visuals, and the challenge modern fans crave.
Back in ’99 you led paladin Ember toward a showdown with the rogue sun‑goddess Solara… then life (or a corrupted save) intervened. Twenty‑five years later, you’re loading that save again. Ember returns to a world still shrouded in darkness, hailed as myth by some and blamed by others. To restore the sun, she must storm the Divine Realm run after run, mastering new powers and rewriting fate until the cycle finally shatters.
Hey everyone, I’m Jorge Rodriguez, the developer behind Eclipse Breaker. This game is a love letter to the roguelites and PlayStation-era RPGs that shaped my love for gaming: fast-paced battles, deep mechanics, and a world full of mystery and danger. We’ve had a blast crafting this ‘remaster’ of a game that never actually existed, and I hope you enjoy discovering it as much as we enjoyed making it.
If you’re curious, try the demo! Your feedback means the world to us, and we’d love to hear what you think. Whether you’re here for the strategic combat, the nostalgia, or just to break the cycle, thanks for giving Eclipse Breaker a shot. Now get out there, challenge the gods, and let’s see if you can survive.

Really dig this one. It's got a nostalgic vibe for the late 90's / early 2000's At first glance, it seemed a little simple, but there's a depth here that really caught me off guard. The way that the synergies work once you start unlocking things is scratching that itch that a lot of other roguelikes don't. It's definitely one of those "You kind of have to play it to get it" games, but I'm so glad I did. Also, the music ??!! Definitely a hidden gem in the slog of junk that's for sure.
Great gameplay, let yourself test it, it surely was made with love!
Very fun hidden gem type game, I haven't gotten far enough to see how it will scale but it feels challenging and fun in a pretty unique way.
Absolutely amazing game. Where I made it at the time of review: Beat Solara twice, and maybe there's 'more' content I haven't missed by unlocking all of it, but I think it's a reasonable point to give an impression, given that likely many won't get this far. As an action rpg roguelike, it hits every single spot you need it to hit: tight controls, fun progression, fun characters/dialogue, hard bosses, solid music, it has just about everything you'd enjoy. Now my reviews tend to focus on issues and criticism, but don't take me wrong. Let me pitch against people's negatives first. I enjoyed this game as much as I did Hades. An EASY 10/10 for enjoyment, satisfaction, and for the price, an absolute steal. The biggest problem I can imagine people having issues with is the 'ps1' graphics it present. I HIGHLY suggest that people don't let that influence them. In game, once the action hits, you will NOT notice it. This type of graphic isn't even my favorite kind of ps1 nostalgia, but it really, really does not come into play. Outside of the game, all the cutscenes have the drawn character portraits, so you really never have to feel bothered by that if that's an ick for you. Seriously, it's pretty and enjoyable, and if it's a problem the screenshots are really not representative of how the graphics feel: it's buttery smooth, well animated, no jank. Incoming hades comparison. For the devs, you'll hear this a lot in some way, so bear with me. Now if I were to give an 'absolute' review, comparing it to the titans of the genre, aka Hades, it's hard to say that this meets it at every level. Let me get the most immediate criticism/does not compare to hades out, and why this game would easily be a 8-10 out of 10 in spite of all that. Graphics? YMMV, but hard to compare the ps1 graphics to the basically handdrawn backgrounds. The worst I'd have to say is that everything is what the game needs to be, but you won't have many specific memories of the background besides 'fire arena', 'water arena', etc. Music? Solid, fun music, but not at the level of of a hades. It thematically fits, though the worst of it is that there's only so many tracks for various situations a player finds themselves in. Story? Actually a very strong story, combined with great dialogue, a continual in game and meta humor, and emotional beats. Hades goes much farther, but honestly if this game went as long as hades did, then it's honestly on par dialogue wise. Emotional beats are different, not necessarily weaker. The reminiscing is where most of the characterization comes out, so by default it's a bit weaker. The Comedy honestly hit me rather well - the patch updates, the conversations, etc. More than expected, and well received. Appreciated. Gameplay? Honestly does not lose to hades in anyway. The worst I can say is that it's legitimately hard - it's arguably faster paced than hades, so there's less animation frames to respond to in comparison. There's a bit more hard counters - many moves, especially with bosses, you HAVE to either parry or dodge, so the less frames can make it feel a bit more punishing, especially with how hard the damage scales. The unlockables are great, though my least favorite part is the companion spirits being gatekept behind (relatively easy) achievements. I'm sure there's tons of ways to break the game using magic, but with healing a bit hard to access, I did feel like the best healing was behind the triggers, which mean double attacking, which made me disinclined to use magic. Every system connects, so while hades's magic was very easy for me to engage with, this was was much harder. You're likely encouraged to combine your magic, special, and attacks... but I definitely tried to use attack as much as I can for the trigger healing. Bugs/Performance: 4 days post release, I encountered one minor camera/control glitch fail (camera locked to character), luckily after I beat the encounter, so not a real issue. Sometimes a conversation would have the previous text stay for a single split frame before updating, which isn't a big deal, but is still generally the worst I see. Generally a 9/10 at worst imo. So if Hades was a 100/100 or a 90/100, every single negative would technically tick this game down... But damn is my enjoyment deep. Everything I listed is more of a comparison nitpick, because as a whole the game is wonderful, synergistic, and enjoyable. I'd easily give this a 9/10. Everything I listed was me trying to find a problem, and comparison is the theft of joy. This game is full of charm, fun, innovative systems, passion, love, and delivers on everything you WANT out of an action rpg roguelike. Go for it. It's cheap, and deep, and worth it. Last mentions: Man the bosses can be HARD. I got a specifically powerful build that basically 1-4 shot the final(?) boss after build up in the (minor spoiler, not really if you had ever played a jrpg) first form, cause i was NOT ABLE to deal with her otherwise. The hard counters and the 15-45 seconds before I got wiped meant I need a build that led me to be able to be lucky enough to use the build I needed, cause otherwise, wow, I'd be screwed. The hard counter of parry/dodge meant I got literally one chance to see any move once before dying, and most of those moves I never figured out how to deal with. I'm pretty sure since I skipped most of that hp bar there were maybe a mini dialogue/more moves I would have died to. Boss rush is probably where you should solve this, but I just enjoy grinding my face into it.
Really interesting game. I love the aesthetic, and the controls are really interesting compared to most of the roguelikes I'm used to.
a refreshing approach to combat mechanics. TBH i didnt think i would enjoy this style of game, but the combat and mechanics left me not wanting to admit defeat, ended up doin 6 hours tryna master techniques and combinations. amazing game, so glad full release is out, great game.
Eclipse Breaker is a fun dungeon crawling roguelike, bringing a "real time turn based" twist to the standard set by Hades. The ATB-style combat, reminiscent of Chrono Trigger and its contemporaries, brings a unique tactical approach to the game. Eclipse Breaker has an element of timing and positioning not seen in its action-combat predecessors, which tend to emphasize pure build power or raw mechanical skill. Dodging, blocking and parrying in order to land the perfect counter attack is eminently satisfying in Eclipse Breaker. With a slate of interesting bosses to fight, with a variety of different playstyles enabled by your spirit allies, Eclipse Breaker nails the fundamentals and then some. The retro-style graphics aren't just eye-candy either, the game's story and meta-narrative are a lot of fun, playing off of the idea that you're just returning to a game you abandoned 25 years ago. As Ember navigates a world that has moved on without her, I was struck by what the game had to say about trends in the industry, as it draws comparisons of the RPGs of the past to the roguelikes of the present. Eclipse Breaker is fun and challenging to play, dressed in a considered and deliberate visual and narrative style that delights.
I stand by what I said in the trailer, when I found the demo. This game a surprising depth to it, especially for a roguelite in today's market. The story is solid, I'm personally a huge fan of the art direction and character design. Plus in less than seven hours I managed to create an infinite damage loop that crashed my game :) Really good time, I recommend.
I never actually played JRPG before this but I am glad this was my first! This is a well polished game through and through. The art, voice acting, game design, you name it! Its fun fast paced but slow when it needs to be. Each fight kept me wanting more and more and to top it all off it has a killer soundtrack! Lots of fun highly recommend!
