Game's short, not the most well crafted or polished, but it's interesting for what it is; a tactical TPS based on touhou, and the characters (except maybe the green haired fairy) are all pretty interesting in their own rights, don't expect crazy undertale level lore though of course. If only the english could be better though...
此生无悔入东方,来世愿生幻想乡
Developed and published by Ureasoft, E.E.R.I.E is an open-world third-person shooter that takes an unconventional approach by blending military action with fantasy-inspired characters. Drawing inspiration from the Touhou universe while incorporating realistic firearms and tactical combat, the game creates a setting where supernatural heroines fight through dangerous battlefields using modern weaponry instead of relying solely on magical powers. This unusual combination immediately gives the game its own identity, offering something that feels very different from traditional anime-inspired action games or grounded military shooters. Rather than choosing one style over the other, E.E.R.I.E attempts to merge both into a single experience that emphasizes exploration, combat, and character-driven storytelling. The story revolves around three playable heroines—Daiyousei, Kijin Seija, and Ringo—each experiencing the conflict from a different perspective. Instead of presenting a single linear campaign, the game encourages players to replay the adventure through separate narratives that gradually reveal the larger picture behind the ongoing war. Each protagonist belongs to different factions and has unique motivations, allowing the overall plot to unfold from multiple viewpoints. This structure adds replay value while making the world feel more interconnected, as events seen in one campaign may take on entirely new meaning when viewed through another character's journey. Although the storytelling focuses more on gameplay than cinematic presentation, the multiple protagonists help create a richer narrative than a standard shooter campaign. Combat serves as the game's biggest attraction, with a surprisingly extensive arsenal that includes pistols, assault rifles, submachine guns, sniper rifles, machine guns, shotguns, grenade launchers, and various tactical explosives. Beyond simply collecting new weapons, players can extensively customize their equipment through numerous attachments and specialized ammunition types, making it possible to adapt loadouts for different combat situations. Whether approaching encounters cautiously from long distances or charging directly into firefights, the flexibility of the weapon system allows players to experiment with their preferred style. The realistic handling of firearms contrasts with the colorful anime-inspired cast, yet the game successfully commits to this unusual concept, resulting in firefights that feel distinct from more conventional action titles. Exploration also plays an important role thanks to the open-world design, giving players freedom to tackle missions while discovering different areas instead of progressing through narrowly scripted levels. The environments encourage experimentation with both combat tactics and equipment, while the relatively accessible hardware requirements make the game playable on a wide variety of systems. Steam Workshop support further increases the game's longevity by allowing community-created content to expand the experience through custom modifications and additional gameplay possibilities. For players who enjoy tweaking mechanics, creating unique builds, or extending a game's lifespan through mods, this feature adds considerable value beyond the main campaigns. Like many ambitious independent projects, E.E.R.I.E occasionally reveals its limitations. Certain elements, including presentation, animation quality, artificial intelligence, and overall polish, may not consistently reach the level expected from larger-budget productions. Players unfamiliar with Touhou-inspired characters may also find some narrative references less impactful than longtime fans. Nevertheless, the game's originality often outweighs these shortcomings. Rather than following familiar formulas, it confidently pursues a distinctive blend of tactical shooting, fantasy storytelling, and anime-inspired world-building that remains memorable because of its willingness to experiment. E.E.R.I.E succeeds by offering a creative experience that stands apart from both mainstream military shooters and traditional anime action games. Its combination of multiple story campaigns, deep weapon customization, open-world exploration, and tactical combat provides plenty of content for players who enjoy experimenting with different strategies and character perspectives. While it may not achieve the technical refinement of blockbuster releases, its unique vision and ambitious design make it an enjoyable title for those seeking something outside the usual genre conventions. Players willing to embrace its unusual mix of modern warfare and fantasy themes will likely find an engaging experience that rewards curiosity and replayability. Rating: 7/10
