I'd hold off on this game until it gets some updates! It has potential to be great but it's way too early of a release!I'm hopeful that the devs will put more work into this title and not leave it dead in the water!I only give it a thumbs up in hopes that it will get some much needed polishing!
An important point, please note that even those people who describe the game as super-duper cool - played it for less than an hour and did not go into it anymore =) Which leads us to conclude that positive reviews are just cheating. I really don't like to leave negative reviews, because usually a developer tries, works, even if he doesn't succeed, but he tries. Here, there is a feeling that the author had an idea, he liked it - at the beginning he wanted to do something, but almost immediately he stopped both wanting and trying. And, this studio has other projects, and the quality, and the idea is an order of magnitude higher than here. Honestly, I tried to give this product a chance, I thought that I would spend two hours before the refund, but I caught myself thinking that I did not believe in the future of this project, that there was no point in leaving this project in my library. As a result - 63 minutes of lost time and a refund. Here are just a few points from what led me to similar thoughts: - The level design is disappointing - it is hardly possible to call a couple of small locations an open world, when moving between some, there is also a loading with a single entry and exit point. And in general the world is empty, a large number of empty unfilled spaces; - Environment design - sometimes you want to remind the developer that even in the standard set of the engine there are several brushes to place grass, trees, earth, etc., and it makes no sense to talk about anything else; - History and lore - uncomplicated and simple, which actually corresponds to the general concept of the game; - The game has a very limited set of content - few opponents, few objects of interaction, few weapons, the game is empty (just like its locations, which I wrote about above); - There is essentially no UE5 here - not a single feature from the engine is implemented here, as I understand it, the engine was chosen to attract the attention of the audience; - I feel "Spanish shame" when I see Castlevania and Resident Evil in the description of this product, seriously, do those who decided to add such a thing to the description have a conscience? - Visual storytelling - after loading the character takes two steps and again falls into the cut-scene, constant obscure insertions of crooked cut-scenes from an incomprehensible perspective camera, all this spoils the overall picture even more and kills the already lame game dynamics; - Game loops - shooting at the same type of opponents at the same type of points on the body, with the same type of animation, the game is fixated on the constant consumption of sweats, and money is spent on them and cartridges, because there is nothing else to buy; - Inappropriate, tasteless, clumsy combination of various elements, a fishing simulator (in other games it fits organically, here it's like adding the ability to trade ice cream at the pit stop to a racing simulator), under-magic, under-shooting, under-melee with constant jerks of the camera when under-finishing the enemy; You can list the shortcomings for a long time, but this is also the time that will be spent on this mediocre product, time that is a pity. Briefly summarizing the above, the most crooked final works of students of the 3-month courses on familiarization with game engines look much better and play more interesting than this "product".

This game is definitely not ready to play yet. Within 5 seconds of going outside, I had to reload my save because I got stuck. The 3rd person POV cant zoom into 1st person, but when aiming you automatically zoom into a closer 3rd person POV. When you read something on a board it auto zooms in and is on a timer to zoom out, and you can't stop it. When in a cut scene you can waste your ammo. When on the boat, you can't control it. You push forward only. I got literally 5 min into the game and was done. It has some amazing potential. I truly hope this gets to a playable state!
Been following this author for awhile, good stuff. Night Gate seems really cool so far, can't wait to see where this goes. Lots of enemies, the dracula theme works great (I think grendel is the big bad guy? like from beowolf?) Something special about a sunrise burning up dozens of enemies chasing you when you are not paying attention to the time of day. You can also shoot a stop sign from a cross bow and cut enemies in half in gory detail. Unreal 5 looks great too. Would have liked to have seen better water physics. --- Post Early Access A lot of work has been done on the game. Like the movie filter.
Voice acting is horrible, its like the person is trying too hard, charachters hands also glitch behind her back, and well started the game and went where i was suppossed to but can not figure out how to enter.. so idk so far it is not looking promising and debating refunding as this is probably just another game that will be pulled from Steam or abandoned by dev(s).
I have been playing for about 6 hours and it is pretty decent game. Yeah it s rough but it is EA Steam. Im surprised there has been a lack of vid gameplay and reviews considering it is pretty decent gem, its basically a budget version of open ish world castlevania with gameplay similar to other games such as Desolate, Karagon, Dukenukem esque and other low budget solo indie survival crafting type games. Fairly unique buildings and stage sets that is quite unique given most Survival type or FPS type games made with UE 4 or above are more or less ctrl+c & ctrl+v . Dairytown has got quite a nice aesthetic to it, very original but hints at Fallout 3 inspiration with Wasteland series as well. If a game deserves to have more faith poured into it so that the dev feels inspired to dev more, then this is a good game to pour it into.
I was gifted this as the premise seemed interesting and the gameplay promise of being similar to RE and Castlevania in an open world seemed interesting. I played for half an hour and we both agreed it was not worth the money especially being it isn't even Early Access anymore but: 1) Lighting. It is both too dark and too bright at the same time. 2) The voice acting is... well it feels like voice acting for games on PS1/N64 games. Passable but rough. 3) The fact you NEED to use the transcript option to read ANYTHING that is in a document without squinting seems stupid. Even games that have that option are generally legible nonetheless. 4) Every time something needed to load, even a short in-game cutscene, everything cuts to black and you wait almost 30 seconds for whatever it is to load... which is sometimes just a 10 second cutscene where a dude tells you where you should go. 5) All the cutscenes are in-game. This is not normally a bad thing but I can literally see the textures rendering even though it took soooo long to load up the scene already. Also the targeting reticle may as well get an acting credit for being in the shot... and you can see interaction prompts if it goes in front of an item. Like the water bottle in the opening scene in Dairy. 6) The tutorial cutscene literally crapped out and froze the video while leaving in all the audio. 7) The final nail in the coffin: the Airboat. I am expected to use this to get around the Bayou, the first area of the game, and it sounds annoying as hell and is slow as molasses. Oh and your turn using the mouse rather than the A or D keys. I will state that the graphics, especially for faces on the human characters, look pretty good and time and effort went into that... but I just wish that effort could have gone into fixing the rest of it. I would have forgiven the terrible voice acting if the graphics were on par with the original PS release of SIlent Hill because then it would feel more retro.
Terrible... Controls, voice acting, graphics, eveything
With 1,400+ reviews, make sure to follow The Cpt Froggy Club Curator Page for plenty more!
Night Gate: ~~~~~~~~~ The Evil Vampire Lord Grendel is about to unleash a horde of 10,000 vampires on the last human settlement. As you are one of the last vampire hunters, you must find the two seals that open the gate of Grendel’s lair and kill him before he despatches his horde onto the small groups of survivors to which you belong. There is no time to waste; you are the last hope to save humanity in Night Gate. Night Gate is a third-person shooter action game developed and self-published by DangerousBob Studio LLC on the 19th of May, 2023, on the Steam platform. Before you start reading this review, I would like to mention that I decided to give this review the thumbs up due to the lack of a Steam third review option. I believe we, reviewers, should have access to an option called informational, not just positive or negative. And the review below is more informational rather than positive or negative. In Night Gate, you play Robin, one of the last vampire hunters, and you’ll start your journey at your headquarters, which is located on a small island named Daisy Town, in the middle of the large swamp. There are four other locations to visit in the game, and they can be easily found by opening the world map. These places are basically to the North, South, East and West of Daisy Town. To reach these places, you need to use an airboat to access them. Each of these locations, including Daisy Town, will have a direction post. By reading these posts on each site, you’ll unlock the fast travel to come from or to go to these places, and therefore, you will no longer need to use the airboat when unlocked. The game is based on completing objectives, which are to find two seals, the Silver Viper and the Gold Finx, located in two of the four locations. You’ll need to complete two rather small dungeons to acquire these seals. Yes, you do have a few other dungeons, but they’re nothing special, and for one of them you’ll need a specific level of experience to be able to explore it. You also have three bounties pick up and a couple of treasures to find. There are a few mini-games: playing cards, fishing, killing giant bats that are trying to take away your pigs, and reeling in vampires with a hook. The game is played on a daily cycle (day and night), and therefore you have two different types of environments. During the day, well, you won’t see any vampires, and to be blunt, the atmosphere is very dull in two of the five areas. The trees look the same, and you’ll see a few animals here and there. You can only go back to Daisy Town during the daytime as it will be firmly closed at night. The Trainyard area is quite fun to discover and of course, the Badlands is fun too, as it is Lord Grendel’s lair and is a little harder than the rest. There is a little puzzle element in the game, which is good. In fact, the game would have been greatly elevated had there been more puzzles. There is a good gamepedia and tutorial on how to shoot different types of vampires, but there are some major issues with the controls, sound effects and some of the weapon’s aiming systems. It is quite fluid regarding the movements with the mouse and the keyboard, with the exception of the jump. I simply didn’t like the jump as I kept missing platforms, especially at Grendel’s lair where there are two sets of four grinding gears in the middle of your pathway, and you have to reach the other side and light a tall fire lantern. To make the situation even harder, the left-hand set of gears is moving forward while the right-hand set is moving backward, and you have to jump onto them to reach the other side. This is the place I decided to quit as I found the jump system too inadequate. The sound of some of the weapons is inaccurate, especially the first handgun, which sounds like an air pistol; not great. And I must mention that the voice-overs are not very good either. But the most frustrating aspect for me was the map. You can display the map on your screen, so you know where you’re going, but every time the game loads for reasons such as mounting or unmounting a horse, loading a new part of an area or going down bunker to sleep or save, you will lose the map on your screen. As loading is frequent in this game, I had to click three times on the map button to get it back. What a nuisance! Some of the graphics are decent but need some polishing. As mentioned above, two of the five areas are quite decent. You might perish a few times depending on the difficulty level you choose at the time you launch the game. If you are interested in facing the horde without playing the Solo campaign, you can do so with the Horde mode. It’s all about how long you can survive the onslaught, and that’s it. Positives: ~~~~~~~ + Solo campaign and Horde mode + Decent gamepedia + Different types of interesting vampires + A couple of decent levels + Achievements Negatives: ~~~~~~~~ - Graphics need to be polished - Inadequate sound effects and terrible jump input - The atmosphere is bland day and night until you reach the Badlands area. - Frequent loading, which turns off your display map - No trading cards as yet. Night Gate has potential but needs polishing and updates to fix annoying ongoing issues. 5/10 Key provided by the developer/publisher for review purposes. Any opinions expressed are entirely my own! If you're wanting to play this game, wait a good year or two for all the bugs to be worked out. Right now, this game is barely playable. It's like the game was rushed out of development as soon as they had the player character's model "working". I don't have any words that could describe the broken shape this game is in. There was a game that was on play station called Dark Stone. The game was a lot of fun to play, but the glue that held the game together was missing. Your actions had no prompt to let you know you had succeeded. The voice acting was horrendous, and the graphics were barely passable, even for play station era back in the 90s. This game follows in development footsteps of Dark Stone except dark stone was actually fun. I'll revise this quick impression as i figure the game out more. But unless a miracle happens. don't hold your breath. Avoid this game.
