Dystoria brings an engaging experience to the table. While it's formula is hardly comparable to a true 6 degree of freedom game, it's limitations help flesh out its identity in gameplay. The graphics are decent with its choice of shaders adding depth to the simplicity. I have yet to finish the game as of posting this review, but for the most part my experience with it is fun so far. To nit pick at some design choices, I would certainly appreciate it if the game had the ability to pitch the ship yaw a bit. The later levels love to throw flying enemies that you can't quite hit otherwise without luring them down, which inherits risk of being zapped (One could use homing missiles, bombs, or a blast ability, but they are limited in range and supply and warrant the same risks, leading to some slog luring every little nat drone down to destroy.) The menu navigation is a bit clunky for controllers being designed mainly for mouse navigation. The game features two currencies to unlock weapons and ships respectively. I find the balance a bit off as I unlocked ships much faster than I could weapons. Needless to say, the speed boost powerup has potential to break level navigation as you can force your ship to careen off the grid using it. Useful if you want to brave salvage stranded too far up or cut through a piece of level. (You get 10 seconds of free flight every time you decouple from the grid.) Though, there is a potential risk of soft locking yourself in a level doing it. Overall, this game offers some challenge and disorientation for those that crave it from an indie title, and I am thankful for being gifted this copy from a friend of mine. Happy shooting!
Great game that brings back the feel of many old school games from the 80's. This is a great casual play game that has a nostalgic 80's feel that's fun to play. IMHO, this game has a lot of positives but only one real negative. You can't look up while controlling your ship. A simple work around is to hit X to go into map mode to look around.
Just from the get go im going to say what i love about this game . My first impression was it being a child of wipe-out and tron , but i got a whole lot more than just that . The graphics were what just holding me in from just saying it was just a 80's nostalgia , because they are absolutely stunning . The weapons are diverse both in animation and in use , big plus there . The spaceships have a pretty nice design , and they suit everyone's needs to progress . The "money" system is pretty balanced being able to re-run certain levels to get the necessary equipment . I haven't progressed a lot in lore and story , but i am lot curious as to why i am "elite" And lastly the gameplay itself . Oh boy , is it epic . What can i say , i am just a sucker for these kind of controls . It may be dissorienting at first , but you get the hang of it after a few minutes , or seconds in my case . The controls are simple , yet dont need to be complex to achieve goodness . The puzzles are THE BEST aspect of this game . Come on , they are well planned and need a lot of thinking to get through , but they are rewarding (not going to spoil the reason here) Overall , SocialBlade was the one that gave me the key for this game . I was surprised , as i thought it would just be a minor indie , but this game just is a hidden gem . Keep it up guys ~Jimakiad .
Cosa state aspettando?!
Inglés / English: You can move around any part or structure of the map, fight against difficult enemies (some more annoying than others, like the damn flying bugs! XD), many maps with many interesting surprises, different ships and weapons to unlock and a story that, For the moment, I'm interested. If you like video games of ships, this one will love you. And if not, you may like this (as it has happened to me haha). Gracias a Socialblade por el juego. Realmente está muy bien :D Thanks to Socialblade for the game. It really is very good: D
Wow, a Much cooler game than I thought it would be, what an Amazing way to throw a lil' Story into an Arcade Style game and the Music goes great with it! I got this at discount, but this is one of the few games I think are actually worth full price.
lol
Followed this game from its early development and had pretty high hopes for it. I am glad to say that I was not disappointed. The controls are amazing, the retro-tron feel to the game is great. I think if I was to give any "areas of improvement" it would be that the different sectors have different "visual" looks to them. The game has controller support but I found it easier to play keyboard and mouse. My preference. I've played it all the way through and has been pretty highly requested game for me to stream on my channel. Thank you Tri-Coastal Games for putting together such and amazing experience. This game is a STEAL at $10. Are you kidding?!?! Great game!
