Experienced on the Windows Mixed Reality
You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/yNbJfuG5vGE Virtual Ricochet is an interesting game as it has elements of your standard racketball game in VR mixed with a shooter. You teleport from floating platform to floating platform, dodge projectiles, return service on balls where you have to match color and shoot flying drones where you have to match the color. You have a laser gun or scatter gun on one hand and a racket on the other. You can upgrade your weapons and your health. The game starts easy enough, then gets progressively harder as you have more floating platforms and more enemies. However, there's only 8 levels, with 2 difficulties (normal and hard). It took me approximately 1 hour to get to level 7, before things got just a tad too difficult. Unfortunately, the difficulty only comes from more enemies and more platforms to have to move to or away from. The gameplay never really evolves, even with the upgrades. The game should feel fast-paced and action packed, but instead it feels more slow and plodding. The UI is ugly and weapon and enemy models look blocky. There's just an overall clunkiness to the gameplay. It definitely needs more polish and probably the core game mechanics need fine-tuning to make it more interesting. Right now, compared to other racket games such as RacketNX or Holoball, it feels rather underwhelming. Plus there just isn't enough content. Game is running on the Unity Engine. You only have teleportation and you have to physically turn. You do need a room-scale setup where you can at least move a foot to either side and front and back as you will need to dodge huge projectiles. On my RTX 3080, I was getting a steady 90 fps on the highest graphical settings. I did not experience any serious bugs. This game is in Early Access. I think it can be really good in the future with some TLC. However, I don't know this dev and can't say whether they will actively work to improve this game. It does need work to be as good as the best racketball games currently available in VR. Rate 5.5/10.
Please note: I received a free Steam key through the Steam Curator Connect program. I've only played the first 5 stages so far, but thought I'd put out my early impressions in case people want more information about this game, since this seems to be the first review for this game. The rules are fairly straightforward. You have a weapon in one hand and a racket in the other (you can switch which one is in which hand). Each stage (so far) consists of three waves where you defend against drones. Use your weapon to destroy the drones, matching the color of your shots to the color of the drone. Some drones will shoot projectiles at specific tiles in the arena, and you must defend these tiles by deflecting the projectiles with your racket, matching the color of the racket to the color of the projectile. Other drones shoot directly at you. These shots can't be deflected and must be dodged. If a drone hits you or a tile, you take damage. Take too much damage, and you lose. Completing a stage earns you points that can be used to upgrade weapons or unlock new ones. There are two difficulty settings. On normal difficulty, it started out pretty easy but got challenging pretty quickly. Later stages add multiple platforms that you must defend by teleporting back and forth between them, multiple simultaneous drones, and drones that fire multiple shots. I currently have three different weapon types unlocked, which I'm guessing is all of them based on the selection interface, but there seems to be plenty of upgrades for them left. Based on my experience so far, I would definitely recommend this game. The gameplay is fun and the visuals are quite good. Played on an HTC Vive with the Vive controllers. I do have Index controllers but haven't tried them yet, and I have the HP Reverb G2 on preorder, so I may update later with how it plays using these. Update: Tested with Vive headset + Index controllers. Works great.
What is the game where you lock yourself in a room to hit a ball really hard & hope it doesn't hit you in the face? Racketball? It's like that but with lazerbeams, laser guns & shooty drones in space. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idPsFLpC3do&t=216s&pp=sAQA
"Virtual Ricochet" was a tremendous failure from game developers who did not ask the most important question before hammering out video game code... "Is this a good idea?" If they had, perhaps we wouldn't be here now. Doing a postmortem on a VR exclusive ripoff of Atari's (and the world's) first arcade game, Pong. But with ugly low poly neon "art". Ugh. I wonder why it failed? Hah. In terms of visuals, this features fairly low quality low poly "neon art" 3D visuals which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and while some developers struggle with creating high quality visuals, failing to do so is a disservice to gamers. It's very difficult to recommend bad looking games. It's VR exclusive, and that shows the developer failed to understand the most basic axiom of VR game design... if the only cool thing about your product is VR support, your product is not cool. It's free... now, but it wasn't before. The developer was charging an eye watering $15 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It's a nice gesture for the game to be given away for free, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 2 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
Virtual Ricochet, retro-fütüristik bir synthwave arenasında en iyi VR atıcıları ve tenis tarzı mekaniklerin bir birleşimi olarak sıfırdan inşa edilmiş. deneyin.
Very well optimised game, I just have skill issues.
16 minutes in the game and I love it
