Reviews
I had a blast playing the game, and it's not just the fact that it's brimming with charm. You can clearly tell the world was done in a thoughtful and natural way. It's that the main mechanic works so well and so many fun interesting ideas come from it. Honestly, it exceeded my expectations on how flexible and creative the game design is, especially the last two levels, which pick up the challenge factor in very interesting ways. Also, a BIG highlight for me is the quantity and quality of bosses! It shocked me that there are as many bosses as normal enemies—great world, great charm and gameplay.
Art and level design is pretty good, the power mechanics are interesting and the fast paced combat is really engaging. The only thing I can complain about is the train level, wayyy to RNG based instead of skill based.
Dystobel is a Hand-drawn 2D Metroidvania about a subject called "84831" where you manage to escape a cloning factory and bound to find out more about yourself and to become the strongest. The game offers multiple interconnected zones each filled with upgrades, secrets as well as collectibles for your character. The collectibles gives you mainly increases or decreased ATK / DEF buffs and it's up to you to mix them up and find your balanced or strong against weak builds. There is a mechanism called element switching for your main character where you change your color between 3 different elements you're going to find later in the game, and platforming sections / puzzles where you will need constant and quick switching between the elements in order to overcome them. The idea was fun and it will definitely test your reaction timings. OST and music was great, It gave the relaxing vibe for exploration of each screen as well as the adventure overall. The boss fights were super nice and creative, different skill set of attacks for each boss that will test your quick reaction timings of switching element colors to block corresponding attacks or jumping over most as well as positioning your character on some platforms during tight room battles will be crucial. It's really an underrated short and fun metroidvania that didn't get the love it deserves, It's a recommended gem that is hidden out of many games out there. Overall Rating 9/10
