Reviews
Great gameplay with beautiful art and excellent music. The whole thing is dripping with passion, from the animations to the voice acting to the world building, it feels like someone had a dream that they wanted to bring to life with this game. The pacing of the story started great but the ending felt a little rushed, the story itself had interesting themes about contrasting who someone used to be with who they are in the present and that resonated with me personally in a way that I haven't experienced in any other game! I wish it was longer, I found myself wanting to see more of this world and its characters. I wish I could talk about it IRL without potential furry accusations, something this special deserves better than to just get dismissed as a "furry game" and nothing more. Dust: An Elysian Tail is a special game that feels like an intimate look into someone's special, hand-built world and it will always stand out to me as such.

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 10: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

Played this in 2020 on Xbox 360, perfect game for everyone! I just got all the achievements and have 116% completion :)
For a game with such critical acclaim, I'm really surprised by how poor this one played and felt. I slogged through this game to finish it off and get the associated achievements and thankfully I'll never have to play it again. Coming from Ori and the Blind Forest, I expected a really in-depth metroidvania experience but what I got felt like an indie game devs first project fresh out of uni (and this isn't a solo dev, it was a small local team) The power unlocks are a good example of this. Normally you'd beat a boss or do something important to unlock a new power or traversal ability, but here you'll just randomly come across them as you play, you'll unlock double jump, slide and your other mechanics as you walk through the story, there's no thematic reason as to WHY you get them, with no dialog between fidget and dust, you just get them and move on. There's so many half baked systems, like the crafting system. You can make multiple pieces of gear but they all feel pointless, it's just more random stats with no visuals and poor descriptions. I think I crafted 3-4 pieces in my entire playthrough on hard mode. You'll collect randomly the crafted items so it all felt under baked. The health system has you constantly spamming food with the L1 button, the health Regen is mostly non existent (only coming in at a trickle later) and there's no health recovery between chapters or even during level ups? So many times I was super low on health and had to spam eat 20+ items directly from my inventory just to get my health back (which felt like Skyrim, you shoveling 20 cheeses in to recover) I really disliked the super cringe dialog between dust and fidget, it felt super off-putting and nowhere along this dozen hour journey did I actually grow to like these characters. I get this was an indie game but you'd think the writing would have gotten a decent pass during development, apparently not. The combat itself just felt spammy, you'll do huge combos, especially with the dust specific moves on the Y button, but overall it's just exceptionally basic. The only combat moves you'll unlock will be different projectiles Fidget can shoot out. Im glad I only paid a few bucks for this one because it feels like something you'd pick up on the Epic Game Store for free. If you're looking for a well balanced, polished and exciting metroidvania experience, this one isn't it 👎🏻
PROS: - Fun - Cool story CONS: - There are furries in this game
A surprisingly good Metroidvania game. I'll be honest, I really wasn't expecting much from this game when I first played it all those years ago on the Xbox Live Arcade. I saw some good reviews, and thought, "What the hell. I'll give it a shot." Little did I know how much fun I was going to have. Once you figure out how Fidget synergizes with Dust's spin move.... oh man... the game goes from OK to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AWESOME. And the different abilities that Fidget gets just adds more fun. I personally enjoy the fire one the most, but really they all work well. Then there's the Metroidvania element which is fine. Pretty much what you would expect: go to an area, can't get to certain area yet without ability, leave the area, get new ability, come back, get that item. Basic stuff. It works. Nothing out of the ordinary or truly amazing there, but it didn't need to be. It's fine. It is of course largely helped by the music. Some Metroidvania developers seem to underestimate the importance of music in their work - a good soundtrack can carry even the crappiest of Metroidvania's, and Dust does deliver some bangers. I wouldn't say the music is something you absolutely have to go out of your way to listen to, but it is good. I like the Cirelian Trials theme and the Blackmoor Mountains theme the most. Much like the exploration aspect, the music is fine. Really, what you're coming to Dust for is that awesome combat. Later on in the game when you are just trying to get to Max Level, it's so fun to just go from screen to screen and build your combo up as you just essentially fly over all the enemies and let Fidget lay waste to them. It's awesome. That feeling of "I have conquered this game." If I were to take points off Dust for anything, it's the lackluster end-game content. There isn't really much to do once you beat the game. Sure, you can go back and finish some side quests, complete the Cirelian Trials, find some easter eggs, yada yada yada, but there isn't an additional mode to unlock or additional costumes or anything. I like the art-style of the game, so it would have been nice to see at least some alternative costumes, but alas, nope. In terms of difficulty, the game isn't that punishing. Even on Hardcore mode, the most times I died were just from falling into spike pits or other environmental hazards. The combat is more just a matter of keeping a good balance of your spin-to-win move and Fidget's abilities. This game is a fairly easy play. I recommend Dust whole-heartedly. If you like Metroidvanias, your tastebuds will be satiated. If you like Disney-ish anthropormorphic art-styles, your eyes will be charmed. If you like cheese-y combat systems that make you feel awesome, you will have a lot of fun here. Check it out.
