Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter

This is an amazing old school JRPG remade in a modern shell. It starts off pretty slow, in a good way. No immediate world shattering calamity, but rather a steady, working-your-way up adventure story with a very likeable cast. This game has alot to like about it, but describing it won't do it justice. It's just a journey you need to experience for yourself. Easily a 9/10 for me. If you're on the fence about getting this game, try the demo! It's the prologue of the story, about 10(!) hours long and if you get the full game, your save file carries over.

Ok, so it took me awhile to get through this game. I want to preface and say I am a mega RPG fan, but I have never played this series before. I give the game a 8/10, but for different reasons. This review will be the best one you will read on this game because I'm sure you are confused by the reviews if you never played this series before (neither have I). First off, this game is entirely world building. That doesn't mean crazy stuff doesnt happen and its happy go lucky all the time, I mean, it is for most of the game but some big stuff, including in the ending, does happen. But for the most part you are learning the world and the characters. Normally, something as boring as this sounds, even as a major RPG fan, is a no go for me. It took me awhile to finish this game because it just dragged and dragged. I got very bored very quickly playing this so I had to stop after only 30 minutes at times and go play something else. Normally, I would just quit and take the loss, but I need to specify something. This series, Trails in the sky and the multiple other games are all connected and continue off each other. I did not know this. Also, this is Trails in the Sky 1st chapter. Apparently, the second chapter (the game) is considered the best story out of all the games in this series. So, the reason I didn't just quit this game after being bored multiple times is because I want to see the hype of the second game and I want to know whats going on when I play it. After 60 hours, I finally completed this game, and after it all I can say I do enjoy the characters in this game and there is a major cliffhanger at the end. I actually do want to play the 2nd game, especially since everyone says the story is nuts. The soundtrack in this game gives off a nostalgic feel. The music is very very good, the kind you listen to on YouTube after playing that leaves a lasting effect. I really mean this. The combat is also good, the other reviews arent lying about that. Its actually fun and interesting and very anime action. You will enjoy how they did combat in this game. The harder difficulty is ACTUALLY hard in this game. Besides the dragging story (that eventually does pay off mind you), the only other thing that bothered me is this...... Listen, I understand this is a remake of a very old game, and I understand standards were different back then, but my god, I absolutely hate it and roll my eyes when characters go...... "H-Hey, is something wrong?" Other person" Hmph, it's nothing." You know when they try to make a anime character seem so smart that they deduct things fast but when someone asks them about it they just say "It's nothing." That happened alot in this game. Not an extreme amount, but alot, and it annoyed me everytime and made me roll my eyes. Just say whats on your mind for pete's sake! All in all, im sure after you finish the game you will come to the same conclusion as I have. I hope this review helps you if you are deciding if you want to play.

Very Easyで1周目のみを40時間ほどでクリア。世界観やキャラクターなど、ストーリーに関係する部分がたいへん素晴らしく、またハイスピードモードのおかげで、移動や戦闘にかかるストレスが少なく、とても快適で楽しいゲーム体験だった。 しかし残念ながら、周回によるやり込み要素が致命的に面白くない。楽しいより面倒くさいが勝る不自由さ。それは主に収集についてだが、時限式のせいで一度何かを取り逃すと、また始めからやり直す羽目になるため、その膨大過ぎる作業量に目眩を覚えた。 特に不便に感じたのが『宝箱をすべて開けよう』というリワード。どのエリアの宝箱を何個開けたか、といったことが明確にされておらず、2周目にそれを始めから一つずつ虱潰しに探る苦行が必要になるだなんて絶望的だ。 せっかく1周目で解放した地図情報が、2周目では初期化されてしまっていたこともショックだった。周回でこそは効率的に遊びたいのに、1周目と変わらない労力を強いられるなんて想像もしていなかった。 個人的な願望としては、1周目クリアの直前に、飛行船などを使って各地を自由に回り、あらゆるロケーション内の探索不足や、未解決のサブクエストを解消できるような仕様であれば、もっと劇的に楽しめるゲームになっただろうと思った。

Ok, I'll review this game after I beat it, but I decided to post only this for now: THIS GAME HAS THE MOST FUN BATTLE SYSTEM I'VE SEEN IN A JRPG!

[h1]I play this game every few years - just to remind myself, how great jRPG genre can be[/h1] All in all - I didn't play Sky 1st/FC as many times as Crossbell arc (but that's unhealthy and it's a different topic, lol). However, it's my second most played arc in the saga. I still own my psp digital copy on ps3 - that's where it all started for me. So, how's the remake? I have to admit, that initial price for Western localisation was ridiculously high, and I decided to buy and play CLE version D1 (Chinese/Korean with Japanese VA), which I platinumed week after release. Never thought I will get this version (English VA is...let's say, not to my taste, and I didn't want to pay high price, just to have localised menus. But not even a year after release, and game got half price discount on Summer Sale, so I thought - why not. And guess what - I immediately started playing it again, forgot myself for a minute, and I'm in the last chapter already. Technically, it is very similar to CLE version - I don't see much of a difference. Don't remember if Asian version got double speed tho (high speed mode AND L1 to get even extra speed - that's how I play it now). Other than that, game looks and behaves the same. There is a full support for Steam Controller, which is great as this is my daily driver now for jRPGs. Game runs smoothly in 4K 120FPS mode with maxed field of view and all settings maxed out - all of it without any need for upscalers and fake frames (9070XT). CPU is lukewarm even during long, 12hours sessions (47C) and GPU is quiet (never gets to the point where fans needs to spin over 50%). Game plays flawlessly on Linux system. Good job, Falcom, I'm glad you didn't completely forgot your roots. Story - who knows, knows. It's a masterpiece, one of the best jRPGs ever made (talking collectively about the saga). Inside Trails games, it sits for me on 5th place, just between Reverie and Sky the 3rd (1.Zero, 2.Azure, 3. Sky SC, 4. Reverie). For jRPG lovers and great stories enjoyers - it's a must play. No need to say anything else. My only gripes with this remake: 1. English VA (but for me it's unacceptable in all Trails games for some strange reason) 2. Weird, cheap anime looking face emojis in some scenes. Luckily, there's only a few of them, but God, they're AWFUL and reminds me of D-grade jRPG garbage bin tier games, like Hyperdimension Neptunia. Please Falcom, it's not funny, it is rather ugly and doesn't fit into the series. If you never played Trails games, it's now the time to jump into the series - if you want, you can play original game (which is also great), but if you must have 3D in your games, then Sky 1st is a perfect jump point. Continuation of the story (remake of second game) is coming very soon, in September, so you won't have to wait years with this nasty cliffhanger, that first game ends with. [u][b]Overall, this is my second favourite remake in gaming, next to Silent Hill 2. THAT'S HOW YOU REMAKE CLASSICS, SQUARE! Shove off deep in your...drawer this abomination which you call FF7 remake[/b][/u] Note to Falcom - DON'T YOU DARE TO SKIP SKY THE 3RD!

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, even though it’s not a game from this year, it has become one of my favorites of 2026 and has earned a spot in my all time top 10 games. I haven’t played the original, but I enjoyed this remake so much that I’ll definitely play the original in the near future. It features beautiful graphics, a great story, and overall feels like an almost perfect game. I can’t wait for Chapter 2. <3
