Experienced on the Meta Quest 3
You can view my full video review here: https://youtu.be/p2qsnhvyYbk This is a tepid recommendation. I don't think this is a well-made VR experience. It's buggy and has a lot of jank. I don't think the devs will be able to fix it in a meaningful way because there's too many problems with the experience. However, especially at the budget price of $20 USD, I think this is almost good enough. Not good, but almost good enough. It's clear the devs had a lot of ambition. This is a love letter to Cosmic Horror / Horror survival. You can tell a lot of passion went into this. You can also tell it was done on a shoe-string budget. The bones to a great game are here. The execution is where it fails. Combat is bad. The best strategy in combat, for most situations, is to wiggle your sword and step back and watch the enemy attack animation miss then wiggle again and repeat until the corpse disappears into the aether. Guns are not quite as bad, but still not satisfying because enemies are bullet sponges. Upgrades definitely help, but don't completely alleviate the problem. Puzzles are just okay. Exploration is nice. The story is barebones, but good enough. The game has a nice musical soundtrack and the VOs are decent. Despite all the jank, I had fun. Do I wish the inventory was better? Yes. Do I wish the UI worked as it should (especially choosing notes or journal)? Yes. I understand all the negative reviews. This isn't a well-made game ... but it has heart and it shows. Game ran okay on my RTX 5090 (some frame rate drops but nothing major). It's Unreal Engine 5 and as usual, devs are awful at optimizing. Visuals are mediocre at best, but definitely a mixed bag. You do have full locomotion and smooth or snap turning is available. Several comfort options. You can play comfortably seated. You can choose right or left-handed mode. (Played it on Quest 3S with Steam link, Seated in a gaming chair) Jank. Some random points, in no particular order: The first boss took 46 pistol bullets in the head and then he stopped. He stood there while i hacked him with my knife and the he felled and disappeared... There are a lot of items scattered around but you can't interact with anything. The ui/ux is painful to use, especially when you want to find a specific memo item and they all have the same icon (and no name written). Some bugs (T-pose enemies, ugly textures or simply being stuck) enough to be noticeable. I found out randomly how to pause the game as it was never explained (A + A in quick succession on quest controller) which, in a game where you're supposed to tweak your comfort options in glaring. And finally where are the graphical options? I bought it on Steam, not on quest, I was expecting a step up but I feel like we have the same version: game is mid graphically and really feels mobile, the screenshots on the steam page are NOT representative of the final product.
In all my career, this is the first time I’ve seen something like this… A patch every 10 hours. This means only one thing: this game is not finished. The developers are continuing to develop the game after it was released, and this is very bad. If anyone is interested in this game, please wait until the developers complete their work. Do not pay full price for a half-finished game.
Rtx 5090, Beyond2. Very hard to play. I keep grabbing my knife and I am fumbling all the time with controls. Also, hold b to recenter camera does not work. I wanted to play seated and I did but when I came back in the next day I could not get out of the ground u less I stood up. Terrible controls. Ok graphics. Not great at all. Needs alot of work.
Love survival horror games, hence im trying to play any that i find out on steam, either its VR game or Flatscreen game but jesus this game is so glitchy. -Controls are terrible i keep grabbing often my knife than ammo to reload my handgun or smg. -Doors keep glitching non stop and are hard to open -Second boss in the middle of fight fps started dropping to around 40-50 for no reason -In mines chapter at the start when driving a mine cart my character was in laying position and camera kept spinning around until i restarted chapter -Also mines chapter, when reached the part with turning bridges their turning animation is so laggy as if the animation was playing at 15fps -Mines chapter as well bat enemies keep spawning even if you destroy their spawn points bug There is more bugs obviously but i dont remember them since i was flooded with glitches. Also where are graphic settings since this is a PC version of the game?
I like this game! Especially for Lovecraft fans this is a must! BUT At this stage it is far from perfect. There sure is a lot of potential in here and the Devs are constantly pumping out updates and patches. That is great, but I will come back in a couple of weeks to see where we are. I strongly recoomend you NOT to return the game! Fortunately, I did not experience any severe bugs other than clipping issues and missing sounds (that is a true bummer with horror titles). Most of the bugs got fixed by now. BUT I hope the Devs will improve on other aspects of the game beside bugfixing. GAMEPLAY 1. The Gunplay feels sluggisch. -> Aiming is a suggestion and I never feel connected to my weapon as I feel in other games. It is 2026 so just rip off the gunplay mechanincs from other titles 2. The Melee Combat is even worse! -> Please improve on that 3. Interactivity is really bad -> Breaking a lock with the knife is crap. You don't have any feeling of skill while doing anything. That really sucks, because I cannot rellie on my equipment. 4. Interactive Items -> There needs to be a whole lot more of clutter to interact with. Every item should be moveable and interactable. I tried to pick up stuff I thought were weapons just to find out they where all static props. GRAPHICS 1. PLEASE give us HD Textures -> Most textures, even objects you can pick up and iteract with are so washed out and low res I hope that you will improve on the aspects. This WILL be an amazing game in the future Best
Horrible QA
I, unfortunately, cannot recommend this game in its current state. With only roughly 30 minutes it took me 10 minutes to even start the game. Upon new game I load in the first area inside a bed/open trunk and can't move. After three restarts I somehow got out of it. On the tutorial to look around the game locked in left look so my view was just spinning in circles unable to stop it. After reloading again I was finally able to get past the beginning. Objects and grab spots did not line up with my hands. Going to grab something if my head go to close to an in game "boundary" I'd get auto pushed away from the object I was trying to grab next to said boundary. After my initial 25-26 min I had to get off it was very frustrating. Went to try again the next day and after loading in with continue I spawn inside a wall and can't move. I try loading a save and get the same thing. The game looks like it'd be a ton of fun to play if it actually worked properly. So hopefully given time it will be worth coming back to to change this review. As of now I recommend wish listing and keeping an eye on it's progress. If it's that much trouble in the first 15 min of gameplay I can only imagine what others, who've been able to get further, have encountered.
the controls are pretty bad it might just be that its not index friendly but the controls were really bad and you cant change the mapping
It has such amazing potential but there's alot of polishing needed I did enjoy it but it feel a tad rushed and incomplete after a couple updates I think it will be great but for now I feel a bit let down especially with the ending
