Don't miss out on this one just because it starts a bit confusing. The game gets much much better after the first 1-2 hours and it is HUGE! There are so many things that makes this game unique.

This review will be a bit weird and i didn't play the dlc as i have been warned that it is mostly combat the gameplay is this games high point, it delivers an epic feeling that many players will enjoy, however i highly recommend that you do not play as a warrior as the stamina management is already a problem in other vocations but in this one it is far worse. The stamina management is simply atrocious your character becoming constantly winded and tired which roots you in place till you recover or a companion gives you a pat on the back. When it is not feeling epic the combat feels cumbersome and annoying. The weight management is both difficult to handle and highly punishing making stamina management even harder. The story is small but apocryphal which is sure to annoy anyone who wishes for a proper story and not a strange pseudo-philosophical experiment specially at the end The exploration is great though everything is mostly a single biome and the world is quite small. the early levels are frankly too punishing and the later levels are too easy unless 2 certain enemies appear which will force you to spend ridiculous amounts of consumables...the difficulty when it is present feels wrong and forced punishing you for simply not foreseeing needing ludicrous amounts of anti-petrification or healing consumables... The bosses are quite spongy and lack depth as well The pawns, the companions of this game, are largely brain dead and don't have any meaningful dialogue Do you like the gameplay? go play monster hunter wilds or crimson desert Are you looking for story or party banter? go play dragon age 1-3, mass effect, jade empire, etc... Do you enjoy the exploration? go play skyrim, crimson desert or the like but this game still delivers a great combination, really worth to get on a sale, and i still recommended to anyone who is into it for gameplay...unless dragon's dogma 2 or crimson desert is on sale too...in that case get one of the two.

Great game. Particularly for old school RPG fans because of its slow pace. Warning, You have to walk ALLOT. inexperienced or younger players this may throw them off. As you play through you get two items called portcrystals that you can set anywhere to fast travel back and forth too in addition to your hometown and the capital where the Gran Duke is. The game has 9 Vocations or jobs, 3 only for the main character called the Arisen, and the other 6 your pawns (look alike humans from this area called The Rift) can use. Fighter/Warrior, Strider/Ranger, MAge/Sorceror, And the hybrid classes Mystic Knight, Magic Archer and Assasin exclusive to The Arisen. Combat is similar to Skyrim only in third person. Hitboxes are very accurate relative to the size of whatever your fighting (means you can hit any part of them and it will do damage relative to how durable that part is). You Also climb large monsters like Cyclops and Chimeras to get to their eyes, head etc. All these require stamina which drains everytime you run or perform moves during fights (Hint: Striders/Rangers gain the most stamina as they level up, double what Mages/Sorcerors/ or Warriors/Fighters do if you want to stamina max before switching vocations which you can do).As You play through, you will run out of stamina pretty frequently during fights because sometimes you forget there is a stamina bar as you fight. Your pawn has two Inclinations that will determine how they fight and will be determined how you give commands using the directional buttons. Your commands direct there general behavior, not if and when they attack. For example if they stay near to to make sure your okay or go and kill enemies regardless of where you are. You can change this via the knowledge chair thats at every Inn or camp. The story is more or less straight forward. Every number of generations this dragon comes to terrorize the land. this person born called the Arisen with this strange connection to the dragon is called forth to slay it. There isnt just one Arisen there are many. Some answer their calling, some dont, some take an evil path which makes the story interesting because it adds nuance to the characters. You can establish and max out (or run to zero) affinity with every NPC you meet, many of which have their own opinions and reactions as you play through the game. Your Normal playthrough the game is rather generous with what you find as you pick up items, open chests and explor areas. Chests respawn as well gathering areas, plants you find for curatives, fish etc. You may find a better weapon/armor than the one available for you to buy in some chests. Also Log bundles hit stuff in it too(I just figured this out) and change based on time of day. The game has a day night cycle which changes plants and monsters that appear as well. You also have a weight limit which is a combination of the equipment you have on and the items you carry. This changes base on the size of your character and the augments you have. The menu is old school and likely the biggest flaw in the game. all the stuff in the game is split between 9 catagories that are all bunched up in and cannot be further divided into subcatagories to make it easire to sift through.Plus the player menu window is too small, requiring to to use the directional buttons to constantly sift through every single time you need to get something wasting time. This will very likely further put newer players away. some wont care. I find it annoying but deal with it. Nowadays there are much better RPGs out you can enjoy you time with, this is an old school 7th generation RPG you either will love it or hate it.
pretty fun game , loving it already
