I let the bad reviews keep me away from this game for years, but as a big Origins fan, I’m incredibly happy to admit I was wrong. I'm currently on my first playthrough and actively enjoying the gameplay, story, and artstyle. The world is beautiful and polished with companions that are distinct and lovable. I just finished recruiting them all and can't wait to see where their stories go. It’s a lovely mix of a fresh, modern game engine and comforting, nostalgic lore bits here and there. It chooses to explore new stories and conflicts rather than just repeating old tropes, which feels right for a universe this big. To me, the community's hate really just feels like nostalgia blindness. If you're on the fence, give it a chance and maybe view it as a standalone piece rather than a reiteration of previous games. Recommend!
Лет через 10 будут говорить, что это последняя нормальная игра Bioware.
Been playing Dragon Age since 2009 and I never do reviews but I love this game and need to give it the recognition it deserves. Amazing graphics, stellar cinematics, beautiful music, fun combat(!) in a Dragon Age game, great characters, and a satisfying conclusion to the story from Inquisition. In the top 3 favorite games of mine from the past decade along with Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur's Gate 3. So much negativity around this game, people wanted it to fail from the start and I'm sure if there's ever another DA game this will be remembered as a classic so they can hate the new one for whatever reason they always do. Really, really hard to be a Dragon Age fan who actually likes any of the games besides Origins sometimes.
I think someone below summed it up best: it's a fine game, if it wasn't a Dragon Age game. Disclaimer: I am not the target audience. I am over 20 years old, I've played the previous games and DLCs multiple times, and I could care less about creating my perfect self-insert / original character in the character creator. So take that as you will. Just like Mass Effect: Andromeda, the most memorable part of this game is the combat. The activator / detonator system is fun, and the larger boss battles are satisfying. The issue, however, is that combat isn't what I play a Dragon Age game for. I play it for the story, and the story in Veilguard feels... tone-deaf, most of the time. HR approved. Painfully chipper and upbeat. (The forced family dynamic that springs up somewhere between part 7-10 is /painful/.) If Veilguard was ice cream, it would be no name brand vanilla. It's fine. Overly sweet and artificial, but if you really, really want ice cream, it will get the job done. I wouldn't recommend it, though.
I've had some fun with the actual game, but in the 6 hours I've been playing I've had multiple errors and been trapped in a room where enemies were supposed to spawn but didn't. I'm still having errors that the people playing at launch did, so no actual fixes a year into the game. TLDR: Too buggy, don't buy
A solid entry in the Dragon Age canon. Great characters and a fun story. I felt like this one escaped a lot of the bloat of DA Inquisition, felt more finished than DA 2 and is obviously much more modern than DA Origins. Despite the world hopping, the game managed to make me feel attached to some of the locations while keeping the world big and diverse. As ever with DA, there were feels in spades.
It pains me to rate this because I am a long time fan of Dragon Age game having over thousands of hours in all the games between here and the consoles not only is it a bad game with unfun combat and writing that genuinely feels like hr was in the room when they wrote it and the game taking the tell don't show mentality and the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ handholding is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ the redesigns is wild the darkspawn look borderline unrecognizable and not even to say what they did to my girl Morrigan and the demons my favorite always being the pride demon and they made it into a shell. Now to look at it as a Dragon Age game this is deplorable man the world build is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and I couldn't care less about the world that I fell in love with it feels like a friend that you haven't talked to in years just to find out that they either do a lot of drugs or just sold out and is a husk of what they were. I won't even talk about the woke ♥♥♥♥ that is in it because it doesn't matter. I really don't know who this is for because if it was for the people that has been playing Dragon Age since DAO hate it because it is nothing like any of the other games if this is for new people it is just boring like I am out of words. I have tried to play it twice and both times I stopped at the same point. I can forgive a bad game because you can find pleaser in bad games but a boring game is a death sentence.
