Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition

I love the story and characters, but the combat is incredibly frustrating. I ran into a pack of wolves, and my warrior did so little damage that it took my entire party just to kill one out of all of them. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but I am definitely dropping the difficulty from normal to easy.

If you're someone who's okay with modding and messing around on that front through a very tedious process then absolutely it's a good game. If like me you don't have the time to spend several hours just trying to get a remaster to work with your system then no. There is a mod that forces DA:O to use more than the 2GB RAM limit but I'm very much not interested in buying products that I have to fix in order to use.

I want to give this game a positive review, I really do but there are so many aspects of this game that's driving me up the wall. Quick context: I've played all three mass effects, and SWTOR, all four being games which BioWare developed. Starting off I despise the combat, I hated SWTOR combat with a passion, I stuck around through all eight campaigns due to the compelling story, the combat in DAO is maybe a smidge better but that's because it can be complex, and is flashy, still miserable though, the story so far is compelling hence why I'm still playing. The game, especially the dlcs are buggy, it crashes frequently when tabbing out, I've ran into no save breaking bugs, the bugs I've ran into require you to backtrack a lot, that wouldn't be an issue if the player character wasn't so slow. walking back to fix the bugs can take upwards of 5 to ten minutes of walking, just walking as your playable character drags their feet. But the biggest issue that has made me lose hours of time was, I gave gift to max out my companions 'friendship', not knowing that it would force me, unknowingly into a relationship, I had never initiated a relationship with either character, I've talked to them maybe twice, and then, four hours after I had given them the gift, I find out I'm dating them both. I did not want to date either of them. I do not understand why there wasn't a single conversation about this, just poof your dating them both. due to this I'm having to roll back to a save FOUR hours ago. in mass effect, in SWTOR, romances take several hours of gameplay and tens of conversations where your given the CHOICE if you want to romance the character.

Despite all its issues and crashes, it's still one of the best RPGs. Great tactic combat, amazing companions. Kinda simp for Zevran though...

I do have this thing (plus awakening) on DVD, which I bought when I was young and stupid, having to travel like 5 km on foot. All bc I played a couple days before at a friend's home. It's been over 15 yrs since then and this game still manages to awe me. My Steam playtime doesn't even approach to the actual one. If you are too young to have played this game on its prime or if you somehow managed to miss it back then, and you like actual RPGs, I can't stress how much you'd like it. Just open your wallet and spend some bucks. And don't forget to fill up some mods; DAO suffers a lot from memory leak but there are solid unofficial workarounds.
