Had a great time working on this game YAY YAY YAY :steamhappy:
tldr; This game is amazing and you should buy it. Also, be sure to check out what's in the VIP room in the Casino :) The fact that I am only the 14th review is a tragedy. This game is truly fantastic and deserves so much more attention. As someone who has played way too many video games and is bored of the countless iterations of the same slop over and over again, this game was such a breath of fresh air. Everything about this game is so unconventional and disturbing yet also intriguing. However, it does not stand out just by being weird. Rather, the gameplay experience is also genuinely very fun and different from what you would expect from a tower defense game. Let me give an example. In most tower defense games I've played, you quickly figure out what the best towers are and basically just spam them which lets you win easily. Usually, it turns into something like "oh, just place 100 minigun turrets and you win". However, in this game, the towers are so wacky and situational you will find yourself swapping out your entire tower lineup for each map you play. Each map tends to have completely different strategies and approaches. I've never had to think this hard while playing a tower defense game before. Not in a bad way either, in a great way. In the kind of way where you're thinking "Ok, how do I make this bizarre bouncy ball tower work in this weird map layout?". That alone would make this game great. But, it goes far beyond that. It has so much more than meets the eye. SO many secrets. SO many weird places to explore. This isn't just a tower defense game. It's an entire world. You just happen to be a weird anthropomorphic rat in it who does tower defense as a hobby. Let me give another example. This game has a fully fleshed out casino in it. Not just a quick lazy typical casino either. It is the most fun and impressive casino implementation I've ever seen in a video game. So many of the games in the casino are completely unique concepts that are genuinely fun and interesting. Did a tower defense game ever need a casino in the first place? No. But, this game did it anyways. And that's what I love about this game. It just has SO much in it. The developer must have spent thousands of hours working on this. As I played this game, I kept being surprised over and over again by just how much there was, and how it just kept going. It was truly astonishing. I kept asking myself questions like "why" or "who made this" or "why did someone make this"? Ultimately, out of the hundreds to thousands of games I've played, this has to be by far the greatest hidden gem game I've ever encountered on this platform. It is genuinely upsetting that this game does not have at least 1000+ reviews. Just an unbelievable effort and creative vision that went completely unappreciated. Surpassed by an endless sea of uninspired AI slop and rip-off garbage. Tragic.
I do have exactly one gripe with this game though. The grenades blowing up your towers is very frustrating because you have to manually re-place them again. It would be so much better if the grenades just broke the towers instead, and you could just repair them by interacting with them after the round ends or something.
Incredible.
Overall, this game is fun, unique and has a lot of interesting twists on the tower defense formula. The visuals are VERY bold, but I think it works overall. Most of the towers have odd projectiles, which, combined with the varied levels, mean that every tower has at least some use. The levels themselves are also fairly atypical, and each one seems to have a theme or gimmick that its based around. All of the NPCs are grotesque and disturbing - but in a good way! It's funny to buy keys for more levels from a hanging victim that jumpscares you when you walk up to his shop. On to the things I personally don't like - the Outdoor sections seem kind of odd. They're horror segments wherein you need to purchase a key from the key merchant and make your way to a statue to unlock a new level. The horror comes from freaky big mouthed monsters that spawn from crosses around the level and chase you down to jumpscare you back to your bed. In concept, this is pretty interesting - instead of unlocking new maps from a menu, you physically go and find them with a minigame. In practice, losing ALL of your collected eggs and the key you purchased to unlock levels is annoying at best and immensely frustrating at worst. Overall, though, I'm very happy with this purchase and I'm excited to see where it goes.
Ok I’m not scared anymore. This game is very fun.
there are people who call themselves gamers and they havent played DOLLMAKER
Has Bingle and KAZOOZLE in it making it the second best game of all time (after Bingle and KAZOOZLE)
Rerereview lmao - - My Review, Scroll Past For Any Complains - - So this is after 18 hours and over 150 total highest waves completed :D. Honestly I've been loving it, the art style is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crazy, and not in a bad way. Really unique and just fits so well with everything that's happening and what does happen! Including it just has my favorite aspects in a game, its 1: A tower defense with an actual unique feature(s), 2: Fps Shooter, 3: Awesome Music! I really have no big complains, maybe add a little more decoration here n there but the level design is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome and all the towers are really well thought out and awesome! Though I am stuck on using the same ones a lot just cause I'm use to them but I do gotta switch it up and it really shows how good something is for specific situations. Though I am a little confused on who the guy is in the thumbnail or logo, is that us cuz I thought the rat was us that we summon as a decoy but idkkkk maybe the game will answer it. - - Complaints | Please Read Devs - - I have small complains, such as the crane just being annoying sometimes but ignore this little part if its on purpose cause it doesn't feel smooth it just feels like its on a grid and goes over what I want sometimes and picks another thing but that's whatever. Though I think maybe the price of the crane should be upped a lil (like by 2 or 3) but that's just personal opinion. You fixed all old problems I have encountered so far so thank you! Though please make sure to redo the tutorial, make sure to make the players use the terminal since that's what people have had the biggest problems on, even I'm a victim to that lmao since I didn't use it for a good hour or two of the game and another guy didn't for 5! So just make sure to make the tutorial a little more thorough for people that are a little slow like us lmao, (though I think you fixed it by making the hit box bigger for the terminal so either way so that rant was for nothing but please redo tutorial I have many ideas fr) READ THIS LAST PART PLEASE JUST FOR ME | I am so confused on how to progress, I've gotten to 150 total waves in highscores and I still have no pets, still have no idea how to get more ammo, no idea how to go find outside shop. I am so lost. I have gotten the VIP area before getting any max ammo and I stg I've gone around outside 1 a million times and I have no idea what to do at the present for outside 2 in the small maze or big one since I got to the end and Im pretty sure there wasnt anything but maybe an egg to get some eggs. Idk im just so lost please help me guys I require some assistance I'm kinda getting bored or just replaying levels but I will for a while longer hoping someone will post a community post saying how to do sum.
thgis is teh most cunfuging game i ever play
I don't enjoy the gameplay too much, sadly, but the artistic direction and general atmosphere of the game is exactly the thing I love. Honestly awesome if you like weird games but only if you're into tower defense. Hopefully the dev branches out and makes a different genre game sometime in the future :)
