The game is okay at the moment. It bears a small resemblence to that of Neo Scavenger.. Only without the crafting part. It's basically a game where you move your group of survivers around a large map. Scavenge food and items, meanwhile trying to get to an airport for instance. The mood setting is quite good. The gameplay is... blah... The combat part of the game is what disappoints me the most, this needs to be reworked or revisited somehow, the current system isn't that fun. When reaching the airport in my tutorial, the game CTD'ed on me. All in all the game has potential and is looking promising for what it is and tries to show. And it's only 5€ - And because of that, I'll recommend it.
I wanted to like Displaced. On the surface it appeared to have a lot of potential, but underneath, not so much. It's like opening a can of your fave drink, only to find out 90% of it is gone! The 10% of the drink (well err game) seems good enough - it is just unfinished in my opinion. The choices you make dont seem to do much, the encounters are all the same (you find some place to explore, its a gas station. Cool. Oh next place... is also a gas station. Alright. OMG ANOTHER GAS STATION! They dont even give different options to the interaction either. Same choices...)
Game bought in a bundle or at 75%+ discount, or received at a public giveaway
It's not an unfinished game. It's not even a game. It's a proof of concept of a possibly great game, that has never been developed. Encounters and treasure sites look like placeholders. If another group accepts a peaceful resolution, they always have a kitten with them, which makes everyone relaxed. Never a dog, never a kid, never a smile, just a kitten for the 15th time. There are just 3 treasure sites, that you find randomly and repeatedly at the first map: abandoned camp and leftover truck in bushes, which you can always loot without any problems, and a gas station in which you will always get attacked (and thanks to the combat system always win the encounter getting even more loot). The combat system is ridiculous. Once you understand, how it works (not that they've bothered to explain it to the players), with your bare hands you can always win against heavily armed enemies, taking almost no hits. Hell, you probably could win with your bare hands against a platoon of Abrams tanks. Then there are bugs. Like having a doc in your party is supposed to slowly heal all its members... and it does, providing he is not the party leader,... just for a few days at start, then bugs and never works again. Beats me, why being so close to making a really great game, they have decided to stop the development and publish it in this abysmal state, that certainly can't be recommended.
My short experience with Displaced left be best describing it as (1) a choose-your-own-adventure game, (2) with some exploration elements when on the map/travel screen, and (3) a (very light) auto-combat system largely tied to its light take on inventory management. It is unlikely to satisfy anyone looking for deep strategy, but it does a fair job at making your choices matter, and telling bite-sized narratives that succeed in their emotional impact: very human stories in a country ravaged by war.
I did not expect to like the game as much as I did, before I knew it 2 hours went by and I was still captivated with the story and my little group of survivors. In Displaced you have to survive the war zone and escape the country. At the start of the game you get to pick your group of 5 survivors, each with their own skill set. You have to move through the country, scavenge for food, fight, hide, explore and make difficult choices along the way. It reminded me of the game “This War of Mine” a lot, but instead of being stuck in the same location you get to move around on the map. The choices you make matter, will you steal and fight to stay alive or avoid conflict altogether and just scavenge and explore? It is up to you… The game play can become a bit repetitive when you play for long periods of time, it’s great as a casual game that you play once in a while. 15 minutes of gameplay so you get a good impression of the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGGwZGibVwE
Displaced is extremely repetitive and boring. I've played and enjoyed games similair to this, but this does nothing quite right in this game genre. Boring story, boring characters, boringly repetitious fights and lame missions don't make a good game. There is absolutely nothing challenging or entertaining about Displaced. I feel ripped off and I only paid .99 for this pile. Avoid
Plays like a healthy mix of the original Fallout games and This War of Mine. At 6 dollars this is a challenging and grim game. I honestly lost sleep over my team nearly being killed off by wolves. Before that the group fought like a well oiled machine of justice for hire. The ragtag assembly of just normal folk turned into a tight if volitile band of mercenaries. All but two died to wild animals in the end. This game makes you play through your tragedy. You can't travel back in time and save your team mates with a save file. The name couldn't be more appropriate. Not all the survivors and refugees are good people. They are just displaced.
I bought Displaced heavily discounted for around 1 euro. Due to its many problems I won't recommend it. The music is boring, the dialogues and battles are quite repetitive and a few of the achievements (e.g. the one about part 3) are bugged/broken. The game surely looks unfinished! That said, I decided to play it for a few hours in order to unlock most of the heroes/survivors. So, I think that there is some replayability value, if different characters are picked during each new playthrough. ▰▰▰▰▱▱▱▱▱▱
Displaced is an unfinished game that is billed as a full release. I played through the tutorial that had no tutorials in it, and after clicking on the screen a bunch (seemingly the only gameplay in the game) I had an event pop-up saying I had found a farm which I had decided to rob for some reason. The farmers ambushed me and put a gun to my head, the other following close by with a shotgun. The options given at that point seemed contradictory to say the least, I had could say "Hey we're friendly" or order my group to hold them ransom while I robbed the house (all this while having a gun to my head.) I chose the first option, not wanting my head turned into a canoe, and they said they would keep someone behind while I found their cow. They let all of our characters go and I went looking around, got attacked by someone and then the combat screen would not let me place my characters in position to begin the combat. I paid $1 for this game and it's still a rip-off.
If they just finish the game, I'm sure it'll be quite good. Currently however, it is not finished (even though it seems to have left Beta). E.g. - when resting, the game will not pause so that you can cook a meal when your people get hungry (which tend to cause everyone to starve to death, despite having loads of food).
