Problem with win11
Solid recommend for dopamine addicted power levelers, with one caveat. You eventually have to take your characters to chara world, which is essentially this old time board game. They make you do it over, and over and over. Besides that, everything about this game is super fun. Lots to do, and will waste many hours of your life.
My fav of all the Disgaea games i'm excited for 8 hope it gets announced soon.
I love Disgaea, and 5 in particular is my 2nd favorite (I liked Disgaea 4 better, but thats mostly because Valzy). Unfortunately, I went to replay this on Windows 11 recently, and its become unplayable. I can only load into missions once, maybe twice, before a system crash occurs. Since I put over 500 hours into this on Windows 10 with no crashes, I can only assume this game does not play well with W11. May Windows rest in Peace, because it looks like I will be using Linux in the near future. I still recommend this game, but the fact that Windows 11 is not supported should be noted, and respected.
Writing after 120 hours. Even after that much time playing, I got far into the story but still haven't beat it. But have cleared most of it, spent alot of time unlocking items and leveling characters. (The main story chapters) Have enjoyed this game very much along with other titles in the series. (I've beaten the main story in Disgaea 1, 2, 4. On a different console, not on steam. Think this holds up well. If your new, in Disgaea its a grid based strategy combat game, where you can level and put development into your party extensively. With alot of customization and gameplay. You play through a story unlocking multiple overlord main characters, and a variety of human classes and monsters to use as characters. The Item system and stat system is very extensive and the games offer alot of gameplay time. Tons of different abilities to use unique to different classes and weapons, epic animations, that you can disable to speed up gameplay. Starting just with story and playing through the "Campaign" many chapters exist in these games. You can build your own roster of monsters and human classes as you progress through the game. Shorty into the games the item world unlocks usually, which allows you to enter an item and progress through stages to level up stats. Fighting enemies, obtaining bonuses and even more items potentially along the way. Leveling your characters as well. This game also features the character world, which is like a board game that increases selected stats each time the world is completed. The game also offers an ingame cheat system that can increase rewards to speed up progress. And it is optional to use. I didn't pay attention to the story much in this game, so I can't say much for that unfortunately. Was mainly interested in the gameplay. Alot of dialogue exists, that can be skipped. I think that's enough information to give an overview of Disgaea, more in general though. If you're new to the series, I don't see a problem starting with this game. The story doesn't really connect between games too much as far as I know. (Besides characters showing up in bonus content)
Possible FIX for Windows 11 crashes: browse local files, right click disgaea5.exe, Compatibility, check Disable fullscreen optimizations. (I've never had a crash on up-to-date Windows 11 June 2026). -- I've played this on and off for 6 years. Every time I pick it up, I remember why I put it back on the shelf. The horny anime jokes don't make me laugh, there's not much of a coherent story and overall it's absolute chaos. In a fun way. With insane tactical combat and character types and just everything jammed all into one place yet still somehow playable. That's why I keep trying it again. I don't think there's a way to save and quit during a run, which is a no no for tactics games where a level can take 30 minutes or more. Another reason I keep putting it down. The tactical combat is absolutely worth playing for any tactics fan. There's character synergy, combos, throwing penguins, and everything is imbalanced on purpose to maximize fun and comedy. The game upends so many tactical RPG tropes. It's incredibly creative in its chaos and quite deliberately poking fun at how serious most tactical RPGs take themselves. At some point I'll keep playing Disgaea 5 and finish. Maybe. Worth noting this most recent time I picked it up was on up to date Windows 11 in June 2026. Others say it does not work. It worked fine for me. YMMV
It may be a gooner game, but damn is it a good one. It's probably one of the best time killers out there. Story is paper thin, but the characters are all fun tropey goofballs that you can't help but like. Strategy gameplay starts simple, but becomes more interesting over time via team building, item/chara worlds, and more difficult enemy encounters. If you love a grindy game to kill time, this is a great one.
Story and characters imo a downgrade from 4(still entertaining but not as good) but the gameplay and grind is fantastic Maybe not the best as a first disgaea game but for anyone who enjoyed earlier/later entries in the series it's 9999% worth it d00d Also works great on Deck
Musst du wissen.
