I can't even bring myself to not recommend this here, despite the horrible things the original devs went through. This may be the greatest game in the entire point-&-click genre, to be honest. It fundamentally changed me as a person. You would never believe this was made by humans. ZA/UM is a grim reminder that the horrors and abject injustice depicted in this visual novel mirror our everyday lives. If you create a masterpiece, it won't be yours for long. Greed has no respect for the foundations of society or art. Please get this game elsewhere. Don't open your wallet for these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
It was him. He is the infernal engine. He never stops. He only gets worse.
5/5 sandwiches. You can probably make the sandwich while playing.
an absolutely brilliant game, a peerless literary and artistic accomplishment. and a shameful tragedy what zaum did to the creators. i will be foregoing no parades as i patiently await the true successor from the minds of the real creators--kurvitz and rostov!!!!
I would say that this game is like my pure inner dialogue running alongside intertwined with my crushing self hatred being written down by a poet, but that would be an insult to the writers.
''Hardcore to the MEGA!''
10/10 cant believe I put it off for so long
This is very much a Choose Your Own Adventure game in it's core, and pretty much 95% of the gameplay is reading a book. It's a very pretty book to look at, with the aesthetically pleasing painterly artstyle and general semi-depressing setting of what I can only describe as Biblically accurate France (I do not mean ill will with this joke, sorry in advance) And given that most of the game is text, the writing needs to accompany that. And personally it was mostly gripping enough, especially the sporadic joke choices that consistently took me out of it. The more serious moments are effective too, and the rapport with your partner Kim is gold. But I won't lie there were points where it very much felt like a yapathon at times (no thanks to the Encyclopedia and Shivers statistics) which made me quite bored. Soundtracks great, being mostly somber, again playing into early 20th century France vibes, with some more punchier tracks for a great contrast. RPG mechanics are really deep. It feels like every statistic matters depending on how you would want to play this game, with them having a constant prescence with checks you have to roll for, as well as hidden passive checks that happen all the time. All topped off with the thoughts system which was a ton of fun to discover through it. Gameplay though, all you do is read the walls of texts and make choices. Hard choices a lot of the times, but that's still all you do really. Overall, really really good game, but it is a bit of a tall order to go through it if you're not much of an avid reader (me), which I'm fine with cause not every game is made for everyone
This is easily the best game I've ever played
