Disco Elysium is a masterpiece built off a broken man mind. Navigating through a world unlike and very like our own. The main character Harry du bois is a broken man who saw the end of something real to him and refused to moved on. Now he drinks to forget and lives in misery but the story it teaches us that "The road to healing is going to be a long one. Stay the course. You will make it, some day. Just remember that you've made it this far... and it's just a bit farther now. Let's finish this. I'm on your side" Not many stories I played touch on the idea of grieving someone who still alive so I highly suggested this game if that is a pain your going through.
Still an all time great game, all these years later. Great if you want to feel immersed in another world, great if you want something that'll depress you then turn right around and make you laugh and inspire you shortly thereafter, and great (though not necessarily the best) if you're looking for a detective game.
awsome
If someone asks me what Disco Elysium is about, I'll answer with one word: everything. You take control of a washed-up alcoholic detective hollowed out by heartbreak. Except you don't, not really. He has drunk himself into oblivion so completely that his past has been erased. His name, his badge, his failures, his triumphs, all gone. His amnesia becomes your introduction, and in that absence lies a rare gift: the chance to decide whether this broken man deserves redemption. There's a murder to solve. A body hangs from a tree, rotting in the cold wind of Martinaise. But the corpse is merely an excuse. It is the thread that unravels an entire world. As you walk the streets of Revachol, every conversation becomes an excavation. Every person who recognizes you reveals another shard of the man you used to be, a brilliant detective, an unbearable drunk, a hopeless romantic, a walking catastrophe. Piece by piece, you reconstruct someone you may not even want to become again. Fortunately, you're not alone. Inside your head lives an entire parliament. Logic dissects every clue. Empathy feels the pain of strangers. Authority demands respect. Inland Empire whispers impossible truths. Electrochemistry begs for another drink. Half Light screams that danger is everywhere. Twenty-four voices, each convinced it knows what is best, constantly arguing over who you should be. In any other game, your skills help you solve problems. In *Disco Elysium*, they are the characters. The investigation takes you through the ruins of a city that never recovered from revolution. Revachol is haunte, not by ghosts, but by history. Every building remembers a war. Every citizen carries the weight of political dreams that curdled into disappointment. Communism. Fascism. Moralism. Ultraliberalism. The game doesn't ask you which ideology is correct. It asks why people cling to them, what they promise, and what they cost. It is a game about addiction, but also about recovery. About love, but mostly about losing it. About politics, philosophy, economics, art, memory, failure, hope, and the strange resilience of ordinary people trying to survive another day. It is hilarious one moment and devastating the next. It can make you laugh at your own thoughts before quietly breaking your heart with a single line of dialogue. It is absurd enough to let you debate inanimate objects, yet grounded enough to capture grief with frightening honesty. Yes, there is a murder. And yes, you will search for the truth. But somewhere along the way, you realize the real mystery isn't who killed the man hanging from the tree. It's whether a human being can survive the weight of his own past. And whether, after everything, he can choose to become someone better.
Best game ever! Long live the phasmid!!!
