The store is small but has a working computer and radio, along with a few shelves that need to be fixed first. The first shelf is free, and the others will hold items you find out in the field. Items are placed automatically when you click on a shelf, so there’s no need to micromanage them. Once you turn the sign on at the stop and open for business, all you need to do is talk to a customer when they approach the counter and either accept or reject the money they offer for an item. People will keep coming even when the store is empty, so you can always make a sale. To get items for the store, you can head out to three locations, each with a few unique features, and search for loot. However, only the forest is available from the start. The beach requires an expensive car that can be bought next to your store, while the desert is planned for future updates. You can travel to a location using a map hanging in the store for a small fee, but if you want to save money, you can drive there yourself on your scooter. The city block where your store is located has two other places where you can use the items you find. The first is a store where you can donate unwanted items to help keep it open, and the second is an auction house where you can earn more money for valuable finds. You can also occasionally discover an item by walking around the block, although this is rare. Once you arrive at a location, you scan the area with a metal detector until you hear a ping. Then you use a shovel to dig around the spot until you uncover the source and collect it. Items are rare, and you may spend quite a while searching before your short range detector picks something up. You can also carry only three items at a time unless you drop one, return to the city, or upgrade your backpack. Upgrades are purchased through the store computer. Along with a larger backpack, you can buy a better shovel and a more advanced metal detector, which increases the maximum item rarity you can find. However, each upgrade quickly becomes very expensive. You can also buy furniture for the store, digging equipment such as a drone and area scanner, and extras like cats that boost your reputation, treasure maps, and a digging permit that allows you to dig beyond working hours. Without the permit, you will have to pay a fine. That’s essentially the entire gameplay loop. Although there are a few surprises, such as random daily events in your city block where you can score a free item, and quests from people asking you to find something for them, the main objective is to keep earning money and buying upgrades to improve your store.
