Diabolic, developed by MyDreamForever and published by Red twice potato, is a small-scale indie action RPG that embraces a stripped-down, retro-inspired design philosophy. Built around a top-down perspective and pixel-driven aesthetic, the game immediately evokes the feel of classic hack-and-slash dungeon crawlers, but it does so with a deliberate simplicity that defines the entire experience. Rather than overwhelming players with sprawling systems or cinematic storytelling, Diabolic focuses on direct combat, incremental character growth, and a compact series of stages that gradually escalate in difficulty. The result is a focused and modest adventure that knows its scope and leans into it unapologetically. The core gameplay loop revolves around real-time combat across a sequence of contained levels filled with enemies and occasional boss encounters. Movement and attacks are straightforward, making it easy to grasp within minutes, yet the game encourages strategic adaptation as enemy patterns become more demanding. Each stage introduces new threats or combinations of foes that push players to refine their positioning, timing, and resource management. While the mechanics are not deeply complex, they are functional and consistent, creating a steady rhythm of engagement that works well for shorter play sessions. Boss battles serve as high points, requiring greater attention and reinforcing the sense of progression as your character becomes stronger. Character development in Diabolic is one of its more engaging aspects. Instead of locking players into rigid classes, the game allows for stat customization and equipment choices that shape your combat style. Whether you prefer investing in durability to withstand close-range encounters or focusing on damage output to eliminate enemies quickly, the progression system offers enough flexibility to create distinct builds. This freedom gives the otherwise linear structure a layer of personalization, encouraging experimentation with different stat allocations across multiple runs. Though the overall depth remains relatively light compared to larger RPGs, the incremental power growth is satisfying and reinforces the addictive quality of the combat loop. Visually, the game adopts a minimalist pixel art style that prioritizes clarity over flourish. Character sprites and environments are simple but readable, which helps maintain fluid gameplay even when the screen fills with enemies. The visual design does not aim for elaborate animation or atmospheric storytelling; instead, it supports the mechanical focus of the game. Sound design follows a similar philosophy, providing functional effects and background music that enhance immersion without dominating attention. The presentation may feel basic to some players, but it aligns with the project’s small-team indie identity and budget-conscious scope. Where Diabolic can feel limited is in its overall variety and quality-of-life features. The number of levels is modest, and while enemy designs differ in behavior, they do not expand into a vast bestiary. The user interface and control scheme are serviceable but somewhat barebones, occasionally lacking the refinement found in more polished indie titles. Players seeking expansive content, deep narrative arcs, or advanced customization systems may find the experience too brief or repetitive. However, those who approach it as a compact action RPG built for straightforward fun will likely appreciate its focused design. Ultimately, Diabolic stands as a budget-friendly indie title that succeeds by delivering uncomplicated hack-and-slash gameplay with light RPG progression. It does not attempt to revolutionize the genre or compete with large-scale action RPGs, but it offers a solid, contained experience that rewards steady improvement and experimentation. For players who enjoy retro-inspired combat games and are comfortable with a smaller, grind-oriented structure, Diabolic provides an accessible and entertaining diversion that reflects the earnest ambition of its developers. This game was better than i expected. I had to play it through. Walls are little "sticky" sometimes. I left walking speed to default. Bosses are easy with Magic. I did repeat 1st boss multiple times to get fast money. If you get this on discount, buy it and try it!
Unbalanced, cheap enemy spawns, endless grindfest after level 7, boring.
