I enjoyed the first Destroy All Humans when it came to PC and wanted to play the sequel. Unfortunately, the sequel is an unoptimized mess. I have a high end PC and my frame rate constantly drops to unplayable states. The game play is fun for what it is, it's not revolutionary or anything but it's fun to run around in this parody of a world with all these silly weapons. However, it's just so frustrating playing a game that runs so poorly, especially when this remake came out 4 years ago and still runs like this... Be warned, the first one runs fine, but practically all the negative reviews I see for this game trash the performance. If you are one to hate poor performance, don't bother with this one.
I revisited this game and wondered why I never beat the game and then I successfully got to Takoshima after playing again and remembered why I stopped. GLITCHES! I cant advance. I don't play games that are objectively not notifying us of wtf is happing and fail to progress otherwise. 0/10
I really enjoyed playing this DAH2 again, I played the originals and then the remake of the first game before this and I really enjoyed that they used the original music and voice lines, the controls are definitely a bit better than the first remake, though I also gave controller a try in this game and also struggled (probably because I got used to the PS2 controls). Anyways, recommend this if you're a fan of the originals or if you like the humor, my only complaint is that I had some annoying frame drops in every level after Bay City, I was using Ultra settings as I did with the first game (with no real issues there), however even when lowering graphics settings I didn't get any improvements to performance, I think it may be an Unreal Engine issue of sorts as I've had issues with UE games before. I had severe frame drops until I capped my frame rate to 40fps and I was able to stay steady at 40fps using ultra settings, I'm unsure if it's an optimization issue, but it wasn't an issue for me after playing the PS2 games with their lower resolutions and 30 fps. Either way on ultra the game looked great and played fine once I got that settled
Fun
so nice had to make it twice, follows the trend of the first remake and improves yet keeps the original spirit of the original game
What a miserable slog. Glad to have this off my backlog. As pleasant as the first game was, almost every function of this iteration is a huge step back. So many frustrating side objectives and poor game design. A virtually useless map and a minimap that's so heavily obscured with pointless DLC objectives that it may as well not be there. Basic functionality from the first game is gone, replaced by a set of frustrating mechanics; For example: In the first game you could tag a location on the map, dropping a pin. In this game instead of being able to mark the map for collectables, you have a system where if you are so close that you can't miss it, you're notified. The writing went from parody of the 60s to ♥♥♥♥ and sex jokes, plus constant racism. It's pretty clear that everyone stopped caring the later you went into the game. A higher percentage of people completed the final mission of the first game than even got to the 3/5 zone in this one, and the writing quality and optimization seemed to drop rather sharply with each zone.
