是的,正是指其“they are useless, even for breeding” 冗长、无趣且无价值
I wish this game was not included in the bundle that includes every game made by ustwo. I'm definitely not part of the target demographic for this game, since the story is one i was skipping through to the point where all i remember after 50 minutes of playing this game is that the main character has a lot of regrets in life and should probably be going to therapy. i thoroughly enjoyed some of the other games made by ustwo such as the first two monument valley games and the game called alba but this one is not for me personally and although i got it for a fraction of its 16,49 euro base price as part of the bundle i feel that was not worth it for me personally. (for context, I got all 5 games that were in the bundle a few days ago for like 11 euro. That's a massive discount compared to buying the games full price individually i'm pretty sure, so i can't really sit here and say "this game is not worth the literal 3 (something something) euro i paid for it in that bundle" but i kinda think the monument valley games and even the alba game are far more enjoyable than this one even though they're likely a lot shorter than what a full playthrough of this game would look like.) This review is not exactly to hate on the game though but rather to warn others like myself that enjoy some games more than others, that this one might not be for most gamers. I will still personally give it a shot because the gameplay is actually surprisingly fun (even with the AI being kinda dumb cuz it had me so easily at one point but then it handed me the win lol) but it carries the game so much for me personally that i am very mixed on whether or not i can recommend this game to others or not. If you just want to buy it cuz the gameplay looks fun, i do not recommend it personally but if you think you are one of the people that will actually enjoy the story, i think you should give this game a shot! By the way, For those unsure what my stance is, This is more of a mixed review than a "recommended" or "not recommended" With just 50 minutes played so far i'm already thinking about giving this game overall a 5/10 but its gameplay is really more like a 7/10 or 8/10 to me personally because it's actually fairly well done My opinion might change for better or worse the more i play but i can atleast say that this game is not one of the worse games i've seen on steam. :)
The gameplay is kind of uninteresting and far too easy. The premise seems like it could have been interesting, but there were far too many ways to break the game. Like if there are only ball-throwing enemies and you get control of all the balls, they can't do anything and you can just take them out at your leisure. The game said there were difficulty options, but they were only options to make the game even easier, and I can't understand how anyone (who wasn't really dumb) could need ways to make the game easier. Like at the default difficulty, the only way I can think to make it reasonably challenging would be to aim for taking zero hits, which I was able to do on most levels on the first try with almost no thought or effort. I suppose I could have retried the other half of the levels to see if I could clear those with zero hits too, but I just wasn't that interested. The story of the game is really cheesy and boring. Oh no, I'm depressed and (possibly?) non-binary and I need to get over my issues! I've liked other games with woke themes, but in this game they just felt dumb and forced and uninteresting. Also, apparently one character is canonically supposed to misgender somebody as part of the story, but also there's an option to turn that off, which just felt bizarre. Like, write the character that way or don't. I'm not sure why this option was included, but it just felt really silly and ill-advised to me. Like either the fact that this character misgenders people matters to the story or it doesn't. If it does matter, having an option to turn it off will make the story not work correctly. If it doesn't matter, why is it included in the story at all? Just don't include that aspect of that character and focus on other aspects of...how Desta is depressed in a way that's really uninteresting. Like maybe you could have made the story better. I dunno, I don't think I made it to that part of the story, but I also wasn't paying attention to the story very much so maybe I just skipped it. Some of the art was very nice, but that's not enough for a game. The dev(s) should do art for other games made by people who are better at writing and game design.
A very interesting grid/turn based tactics type game where you throw kickballs at your memories or dreams or whatever. The graphics are really unique and the cutscenes are really well done. The handrawn style, while quite different, the presentation of dialogue and still shot characters reminds me of a Supergiant game. The gameplay itself is really quite fun. They provide you with plenty of options to customize your playstyle and it was very satisfying to set things up and create combos that require aiming and bouncing off walls. Pretty cool. If sexualtiy, gender, and pronouns are an important issues for you, this game might be either really right or really wrong for you, depending on what you think about this topic. I'm definitely not the target audience for the story of this game. It discusses a lot of struggles that people go through in life and I just didn't identify with any of them. Not to say that I identify with most characters in videogames really, but I think this game wanted to connect with people who can relate. For those that do identify with the characters, I think this game is probably a moving experience. For me, it was just a really unique tactics game that I definitely enjoyed. There are a bunch of challenges to tackle that I'm sure are fun, but I had my fill of the game after beating the campaign. It was fun, but not super hard. Some of the challenges look really tough though. I'm sure you could get a lot of bang for your buck if you played all of those. For me, the sale price was low so I feel like it was fair for what I got out of it. Overall, the game is worth playing, whether you ignore the story and enjoy the tactics or fully dive in.
Cool concept but the roguelike bit feels tacked on. The tone of the plot isn't fast enough.
This is one of those games I'd love to give a "mixed" grade. I love the art, and the gameplay is nice: I know there's nothing new in hitting-people-with-stuff, but I found it cute that she throws balls as she plays with her "opponents". Sadly, as other reviews point out, the gameplay loop is not good enough for me to keep coming back to this: the rougelite mechanics seem a little farfetched, and the game feels too slow to actually enjoy the repetition. The dialouges also feel odd and cringe at some point, but that may be me (I don't mean the themes, but the actual words they speak). As much as I'd like to enjoy this game, I appreciate the effort, but sadly it's not good enough for me.
Desta is a weird game to categorize. On the one hand, I really enjoyed the gameplay loop, though I can acknowledge it's simple at its core. Maybe too simple. That said, I find it fun from the very beginning & I played through the whole game multiple times inspite of the fact I absolutely hate the dialogue. This isn't a roguelite like Hades where you're getting new dialogue constantly; you're hearing the same thing over and over again. No skip button, you have to manually skip each line even if it's your 15th time seeing it. I'd just mute the dialogue and set the music to max, which was made by Mansur Brown for this game and is definitely a highlight. Another highlight were the challenge levels, which force you to approach the game in a new way. Also probably my favorite because they had minimal dialogue to skip. Some levels are too easy, others require replays, one I spent probably over an hour on and then realized the developers wanted me to approach it differently. I enjoyed the game so much, I went through the effort to get all the achievements, though you won't see it here because I played the game for free through Netflix. Having played both on a touchscreen and on a mouse and keyboard, I think this works better as a mobile game. Pros: -Fun gameplay -Great music -The challenges levels are really enjoyable -Interesting themes about the self, forgiveness and friendship Cons: -The dialogue feels forced & unnatural -No option to skip scenes (which sucks for multiple playthroughs) -Repeated dialogue 99% of the time you're playing through the story -Works better as a mobile game If you don't have a Netflix membership, I'd recommend you pick this one up on sale. At the time of writing, it's $3.39 and that seems fair for the 12-15 hours you'd get from it if you do the challenges and achievements as well.
