The first part of the game's pretty fun! You ride around from random event to random event, it's nice! But after you beat the first boss, you go into the dungeon, and that part's no fun...same enemies over and over, and the difficulty goes up a lot. I was hoping for a sort of "ride around, do random events, fight random bosses until you die" or something, but it looks like that's not the case. Shame.
A Card Game KING review
Lost Meridian starts off as a solid game, taking noticeable inspiration from Across the Obelisk as a party based card battler using similar mechanics like skill checks based on cards and several card effects. Unlike ATO it adds the 3D element and movement during battles so you can reposition your heroes. The main issue with Lost Meridian is that it feels half-baked. The enemy variety is rather low, there aren't many interesting card combos, balance is off and even battle movement barely even matters. Sometimes your ranged skills are blocked by terrain or allies, or you can put your tanky heroes in front to absorb attacks as enemies mostly target the closest target, but in 99% of the cases movement doesn't matter and it doesn't add a new tactical layer to the battles. Lack of card combos is also a problem. Most of the cards are just DPS + some effect that is sometimes also just damage. On top of that some cards seem vastly superior to others. Another issue is that a lot of cards feel very similar to each other - for example you have a fire AOE spell and a cone fire spell, that both do similar things but with different stats (range, damage) . You really don't need both on such a small battlefield. ATO has a similar problem but they have hundreds of cards to play with. Enemy variety is poor. The game will throw you into battles with exactly the same enemy composition again and again. Game, if I beat them the first time, it's highly likely I can beat them again. Proving it several times is just frustrating. Balance is weird. Act II feels like a huge jump of difficulty. Some later enemies just surprise you with heavy damage over time effects and if you don't have several cards to remove debuffs you just die. One boss just surprised me by being immune to the "burn" effect which also increases damage taken by fire. This meant my fire mage who was destroying everything until now suddenly became useless. With my Ranger being the only leftover DPS, my dedicated tank and healer stood no chance. A composition that worked pretty well up to this point just failed because it fully countered my playstyle (which is btw the one the game starts you off with). There are quite a few negatives I have for the game, but to be fair what is in the game, works ok. There aren't any bugs I encountered, you can speed up movement on map and some of the cards in the game are fun to play. The game has solid foundtations to build upon, but the card pool and enemy variety heavily limits different playstyles and experimentation. Some patches can certainly improve the overall experience and recent updates have shown to be in a good direction, but only a few of them might not be enough.
The positive
+ Good basic concepts of the game. + Skill checks with cards is a mechanic I love to see more.
The neutral
* Decent UI, but sometimes difficult to get added info on enemy card keywords.
The negative
- Lack of cool card combos or interesting card effects. For example, you have many damage over time effects that barely do anything different than just support their own damage type (e.g. burned enemies take more damage from fire attacks, and poisoned more from nature attacks) - Small enemy variety and repeating encounters. - A lot of combats are just long stat checks and movement rarely matters. - Can't transfer items between heroes. I have no idea why is this a limitation as you might get an item that's perfect for another hero, but it's stuck with the one that got it.
Conclusion:
Decent foundations but repetitive combat, lack of card combos or interesting card effects and low enemy variety keep the experience underwhelming. Pros: It's cheap and sort of fun, plays a lot like Across the Obelisk. Cons: The game is literally just a rip off of ATO, down to regurgitated card art and with nearly the exact same mechanics. Unfortunately it has nowhere near as much replay value due to a lack of choice in how the run progresses. The events are randomly chosen and whether you succeed or fail is semi-random as well. The 3D aspect would be interesting if there was even a hint of original game design to take advantage of the new perspective, but since all the cards are straight one-to-one copies from a 2D game it's pretty pointless. The graphics are pretty lackluster and the environments and encounters are barebones as heck. For the entire dungeon (Act 2) you fight in the same stone room copy-pasted over and over again with no obstacles, no decorations, no variations at all save for one room. Every horse in the game is identical. It feels like a game made in someone's spare time with a bunch of free assets and they just don't really care how it looks. TLDR; this game is a low quality version (rip-off) of Across the Obelisk, just go play that. It's cheap but still not worth it when there is a much better equivalent you could be spending your time on instead.
Good game but it keeps resetting my progress. Had 4 upgrades on the knight then the next day all gone nothing. Next day friend a I play again get 14 upgrades for the fire mage. Now as of writing things the 14 upgrades along with the gems are gone so lost a total of 18 upgrades. If there is anyways to fix this that would be nice, if not then the game is 1 out of 10/ if there is a fix then 8 out of 10.
Very similar game to Across the Obelisk or Hellcard, I would say this game is only about 40% completed. There is a stage 1 which is reasonably long. Second stage is like 2 rooms with the last having the boss. The 3rd is a short fire land and has a dragon to beat at the end. Don't bother playing or level up the fire mage as he is completely useless in the 3rd stage and against the Dragon. **They lied saying weekly updates. The last update was the 28th Nov. No update since!!**
This game has some great ideas, fun characters and good gameplay. I've got 17 hours at this time, and I love playing it with my friends. You might be wondering why then, i'm recommending against purchasing this game. To put it simply, its not complete, and based on the developer hasn't made a single update in the 4 months since i've purchased the game. I would be able to forgive that, except on top of that my friends continue to lose their currencies that they have unlocked by playing the game, this has made it un fun to continue. I hope they patch this bug at least, and continue work on the game. I'd love to change this review to Yes.
I can't recommend the game as it is now. The main problem I have experienced is that in co-op play, only the host gains any progression currencies. It's hard to play a roguelite game that doesn't retain progression. Beyond that, it's an inexpensive game, and may be entertaining for a while if you don't require the cooperative play.
Эдакий 3D вариант "Across the Obelisk". Формируем наше пати из 4-х приключенцев, после битв, где важное место занимает движение и размещение, добавляем в нашу колоду карты и надеваем снаряжение. Увлекательный декбилдер с множеством событий и с возможностью играть в коопе. A simply looking, yet complex working deckbuilding roguelike with questionable visuals but decent card and character variation and customisation. For the surprisingly low price it's amazingly entertaining. My short three minute video review can be seen here: https://youtu.be/VnDoXa-qRsg?feature=shared
Bom até o segundo gameplay, quando você percebe que vai ter que repetir as mesmas fases 50 mil vezes para poder ir evoluindo... O único lado bom é que tem modo cooperativo.
