A true diamond in the rough, amazing game. Pros + Map sizes can be set to mere infinity, leading to superlong games (which I like). + Infinitely spawning static lairs/dungeons with random numbers of levels and random monsters all over the map. Sometimes wandering monsters spawn from these as well, for which you get a 5 turn warning. + Tons of drops from fights with massive stat varieties. + Huge crafting system. + You can have infinite cities without penalty and in each one you can build tons of improvements. + 2 huge tech trees, 1 for civilian tech and 1 for magic spells. + Magic spell quality improves each time you use them and the mana cost decreases. + Comprehensive terrain improvements, including roads, buildings, transforming terrain, reclaiming land, planting forest, applying buffs via spells etc. + You can build/hire infinite units (if you can support them) of which there are a large variety with many interesting skills. + Mercenaries have a large variety which you can improve via buildings. + There are Greater and Lesser Hero units with special skills and extra item slots which can be acquired via spells or mercenaries. + Infinite unit leveling with a choice to pick a skill/stat increase every 5 levels. + 2 levels of combat auto-resolve : one where you can see the mobs move/attack and one that finishes the fight instantly. + So many things are customizable, be it via in game settings or config files. + Tons of QoL improvements (if you play the Beta, which I recommend) such as extensive tooltips, ability to set notes on the map, extensive in game help and many keyboard shortcuts. + Although there hasn't been an update in a long time, the game's creator has alluded to still develop it and even coming out with a DLC soon. Apart from the save issue mentioned below I haven't encountered any bugs or crashes while playing the latest Beta version for 600+ hours so it's very stable. It also uses very little CPU/GPU except when going to the next turn and saving. Cons - Every once in a while (about 1 in 50 saves I'd say) the game crashed/closed for me while manually saving in dungeons so make sure to save often. - Auto-resolve AI can be improved, e.g. not sending half-dead units to the front line and not blocking off healers with ranged units. - Save games can be very large (15-20 MB for manual saves, 500+ MB for autosave on a fairly huge map) so make sure you use an SSD. Loading games is very fast though, despite the size. - It would be great if there was a way to lay out cities in advance because planning them without having their radius seen is a bit of a hassle. - The anger system (whereby it shows which lairs will spawn wandering mobs up to 5 turns in advance) can be made more clear especially when zoomed out on large maps. - The default setting for the amount of turns in which mobs start to wander is pretty low, leading to huge delays in going to the next turn on large maps with the default amount of lairs (very many). Fortunately you can increase this in the config file (set wander_monster_turns to e.g. 100 instead of 8).
I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ tried to get into it but god this game can get soooooo tedious. If I automate 3 workers I shouldn't be getting up to 50k gold with barely any improvements built anywhere. As much as the city building is fun I cbf placing 2 million lumber yards/farms/fish nets/etc. Need some major QoL improvements for the price you pay.
Stonecold masterpiece. Essential Fantasy 4X, you can't call yourself a 4X Man until you can explain to me why you don't like it, it would be like not having an opinion on MoM.
Nice indie game. Great mechanics. Really good UI and automatisation of quite a lot of routine tasks. Unfortunately, the community is very small and no further mods are developed, though it would be very promising. It is an unpolished gem, but worthwhile playing.
Great game something that people should know check the games discussion's the game has been getting beta updates for the last half decade I'm not 100% sure why the dev does not do normal steam game updates and announcements but there is a fair amount of content in the beta branches.
A Criminally Underrated 4X Masterpiece for the Patient Strategist If you crave deep, intricate 4X gameplay that truly rewards careful thought and meticulous planning, look no further. Deity Empires is a hidden gem on Steam, and it's a shame it doesn't get more recognition. This isn't a game about rushing; it's about slow-burn strategic depth. The pace is deliberate, allowing you to truly immerse yourself in the layers of complexity. For those who appreciate extensive micromanagement, this game delivers. Every decision, every resource, every unit feels meaningful, giving you unparalleled control over your burgeoning empire. Forget flashy graphics and instant gratification. Deity Empires offers a rich, rewarding experience for players who love to dive deep into systems and watch their grand strategies unfold over many hours. Your hours will melt away as you optimize, expand, and outmaneuver. Highly recommended for any true 4X enthusiast looking for a game to sink their teeth into. Don't let this one pass you by!
Hex Based world builder, Not the best but one I always have a saved game that I play every month.
