This game had my attention as soon as I found out about it; a 2D platformer that controls like Smash? This is right up my alley as someone who's been playing the Smash series somewhat competitively on and off for around a decade. I am happy to report that the controls of this thing feel spot on for what it's trying to emulate; Globule (the protagonist) controls very fluidly and responsively, and has a very easy to grasp moveset if you've played pretty much any platform fighter for more than a few hours. What really stands out more than anything in this game is the presentation; this game is gorgeous both visually and auditorily. The environments look like something you'd see in the original Yoshi's Island in terms of their colour and style, whilst the character sprites are really reminiscent of those internet Flash animations from the mid 2000s. The OST here really stands out; some of the tracks here are a treat, and the soundtrack ranges from beautiful slow jazz tracks to intense punchy techno beats. As mentioned this game plays a lot like a platform fighter; think Melee adventure mode or even Brawl's Subspace Emissary. The platforming feels good; I like that it gradually introduces more stuff to platform off as the game progresses, which leads to it rarely feeling repetitive or stale. I do like the combat here too as a bit of a Smash veteran, but the lack of enemy variety can start getting a little tired by the end. Luckily this game is fairly short, so it doesn't wear out its welcome much! Definitely worth a try especially if you have experience with Smash, Rivals or other plat fighters. If you come into this as someone less familiar with that specific genre I do think you will struggle to pick this up a bit, but I'd say the early game is pretty generous in terms of difficulty to help you get accustomed to how it all feels. Cool game! 7/10
I'd been waiting to write my review until I beat the game, but with who i am as a person, who knows when/if that'll be. So I'm writing it now. This game is phenomenal, it feels so smooth, its breathtakingly gorgeous and the soundtrack is unreal. The animations in particular are so smooth and energetic and playful. I've found myself stopping and just listening to almost every new track, it's crazy how great the music is here. This games soundtrack is up there in my list of all-time game OSTs now. It gives me the same feeling of playing various Kirby games but with the combat of Smash Brawl story-mode and the visuals taking cue from Yoshi's Island. The levels are surprisingly big and there are new level gimmicks thrown in constantly to keep things fresh, and they really utilize them too. It makes getting the time trials down more engaging throughout. The way you get alt outfits is very fun too. After getting a key and beating a level (i think) it starts a little racing mini-game. If you win, you get a new costume. The game is just a joy to look at, control and listen to at every moment. Truly just a phenomenal effort, UNBELIEVABLE that this is the dev's first game. Maddening that this doesnt have 10k reviews. If this came out back in the DS or 3DS days, it would've gone triple platinum and be a classic that everyone bemoans current games not being able to hold a candle to. Buy the game. I need this developer to keep making games until i die.
A lovely videogame with an AMAZING art style that I enjoyed GREATLY. Gameplay was FANTASTIC and very reminiscent of Smash Brothers, but reasonably balanced around single player. My only complaints are that enemies and bosses feel kind of easy to fight, and I wish the had more health as to compliment the game's combat system. I also wish the bonus character's unlock requirements were a bit more clear. That all said, I still recommend it. I truly had a WONDERFUL time playing this game.
Jogo maravilhoso!
This game is very polished and pretty fun. The controls are very easy to understand because they felt like smash controls!. I really love the character designs Espcially Que sera, gotta love them leggy flexable girl espically if they now that and Que sera DEFIANTLY knows her gift. The only flaw is the first couple of levels have worse music than the later levels and feel pretty long. But I'm very statisfied with it and beat all every stage. I've been following this game for a long time when I saw it a few years ago on twitter.
It kinda reminds me of Rayman Origins in a lot of really nice ways. Really fun, Smash Bros.-styled controls in a "Hop-n-Bop" Beatemup Platformer with really pretty art and beautiful, silent worldbuilding and lots of little optional challenges to test your prowess. and considering Rayman Origins is my favorite game ever, y'know. that's pretty cool. you should get this game And also there's a Game & Watch sidemode and like that's incredibly peak are you kidding me, we love the Game & Watch. wahoo
Recommended if: You find smooth movement in games inherently enjoyable and would look past uninspired level design. Speedrunning levels might be fun as hell too. I wish steam's review system offered more than a binary, because this is a very worthwhile but flawed piece. The art design is rather charming and the movement and core mechanics are engaging. Wavedashing all over the place is quite fun. The game wears its platfighter inspiration on its sleeve. Nevertheless, I do not think the level design highlights the richness of its mechanics. This is both because the levels are rather easy, and because of a clash between the game's aspirations to be a fighter/collect-a-thon and its mechanics' invitation to speed up. I think there is a ton of potential in the game's core, and a different direction in level design could have turned it into a brilliant piece.
Decline's drop is a really fun game that is unique. Unique in the sense it single player focused platformer fighter. Which is really cool as there is not many games like it. The combat has a lot of varrity in terms of moves and combos you can pull off. But also making it easy to get into and hard to master in the controls and excusion. It helps that the art and music is also pretty neat. The varrity of levels in terms of themes and stage elements helps make each level fresh and unique. Don't have much else to say about it to be honset other then the fact that I would reccomend this game for a good time. It's fun, and doing your own combos is super cool.
