alright so this game is different, I like the aspect of find the anomalies to exorcise the ghost, there are no specific ghost or behavior to pay attention to great game. BUT what ever you did to patch the game screwed it up. frame rates drop when ghost spawns in and when too many action take place at once. IF that gets fixed ill give an eight only because I think its a nice vacation away from usual behavioral patterns in most ghost hunting games.
wondeful game. dev is very active and nice, would recommend!
English: Once figured out the game becomes many times more enjoyable and understandable. Game process: First you look for clues by marking them with the “Event Logger”, which gradually appear during the roll, then you sit with the log in your hands trying to understand what condition (number of clues, lack of clues) fits the choice of herbs for the ritual. After arranging all 3 in the magazine, you find out what item you need to find on the map for the ritual. Carry out the ritual: everything is correct=victory\you are wrong with the choice of herb=hunt, which can be mangled and escape, as the front door will open later. Overall, I like it.
The game is alright. The blending of the genre is cool, but the Move/Extra entity needs a bit of rework, its hard to tell the difference 90% of the time. We encountered several bugs including doors breaking and even ritual logic getting things wrong. Also a lot of the assets and materials are the same ones from Phasmo 1:1, the most obvious being the monsters/entities. Changing my review to positive because looking back on it, its still a fun game despite these problems. Good for a solo project!
English: It's a cool game. It's similar to other games in its genre, but with its own twist. I really like that you can play on as many as five maps, not just one or two. Even after playing for so many hours, I did not get bored, unlike with many games in this genre. I would like to thank the developer for listening to his players, fixing bugs in the game and creating such a great game. I recommend buying it!
Love the interactions and the full spooky feel of the game. Can't wait to see what more is going to hopefully be added. More locations and things like that!
Deathwatchers takes the "spot the difference" element of the first game, and has you go on site to find those differences directly, and banish the entity directly. It dovetails the two genres that were really kicked off by Observation Duty and Phasmophobia, though it is really its own game (don't expect anything similar to those).
Early Access
As with any Early Access game, expect bugs and things that can be improved, of course, but what makes me recommend the game in this stage is that it's a full playable experience, AND the dev is very responsive. Quick responses in the steam discussion forums, to both bug reports and feedback, and follow up communication is good. The game has some jankiness to it (movement and interactions are fine, just a learning curve on some equipment and menu awkwardness). Lastly, I appreciate ANY game that gives a good demo to try it out. I prefer that over relying on the refund process to just figure out if I like the gameplay or not.
Current Game State
The game gives a full experience: [olist] [*]There's level progression that unlocks upgrades as you go, getting better equipment as you get used to their functions. You can also customize your character and unlock different clothing, etc. Something to go for if you like that. [*]There's a good variety of maps to play with, each with their own entity, and I believe some of their own unique behaviors (haven't been brave enough to try all the big maps). They are very distinct, ranging from a small house to a larger mansion, and even abandoned subway or police station. [*] There are several game modes; if you prefer the original Deathwatch experience (sit in a chair looking at cams), you can switch to that mode too, and there's Custom gameplay settings to adjust things if you want it harder or don't like a particular difficulty element. [*] Multiplayer works well, although I admit I only ever play with my wife and friends. VERY easy to have them join (steam invite process), and I have yet to experience any lag or sync issues (wife next to me, friend lives in a different country, no problems). [/olist] Importantly, the game loop is engaging and forgiving: [olist] [*] You enter a map and collect the evidence (log the changes you find). This is already enough to get you reward; it's not an "all or nothing" experience. Don't think you can survive to figure out the banishment? Leave early and still get a bunch of experience and cash. [*] You are immediately given access to nearly everything (upgrades just make them all better, or have more of them), and you have tools to defend yourself from the ghost if you are caught out in the open or cornered. [*] The banishment ritual is a matter of checking the evidence you collected and compare against the requirements for the list of herbs in the ritual. Basically "3 or more", "2 or less", "none" type of requirements, two each per herb. Eliminate down to three, find out what special item you need from the site (hairbrush, jewely box, etc) and perform the banishment to get the bigger payout. [/olist] I've only run into a single bug that caused problems with the game loop (getting 4 actual herbs by evidence, but you should only ever get 3), but the dev is highly communicative on fixing that and it should be hammered out shortly. Some game elements could use better definitions/tutorial. If you use the UV and see a splotch on the ground, that's an old Entity Sighting, and a floating audio symbol is a missed Audio, try testing audio evidence until you get the right one. I assume these are elements added afterwards, and the tutorial will need updating to catch up.
Final Verdict
It ticks all the boxes for me: investigation puzzlework, skill-based gameplay, spooky atmosphere and chases, and a sense of progression. Not super complex or deep, good for "arcade" style play with some friends (play a couple missions for an hour or so). Very good for the price! I've added this to my "ghost game" rotation.
TLDR: Deathwatchers is an interesting blend of genres that requires a bit more work in my honest opinion to really stand out and against some similarly designed games which are tough competition, like Phasmophobia. It's a good price, decent fun, and has solid replayability despite some annoying problems. Despite what one of my friends wrote for their review, I wanted to be a bit more optimistic and open-minded when it comes to Deathwatchers. So I figured I'd write mine and give my thoughts on the game in a more well-written manner and touch on a variety of subjects from my time playing last night. Before we get into it, of course, I want to explain what Deathwatchers is. To basically summarize it, I found the game to be an interesting genre blend of Phasmophobia, that one demon house game, and observation Duty. You basically walk around a location attempting to find disturbances and log them, with the eventual goal being to exorcise the entity haunting the place. Luckily, exorcism is not required for a win, as you get paid for each interaction you log. During the gameplay the creature will do things to the location and initiate hunts, with the end goal being to both scare and kill you. Nothing too crazy, but it does make for fun gameplay at a basic level. Moving forward, the game is a bit wonky and we encountered some minor bugs that weren't really that game-breaking, but more so annoying. The most frustrating of the two being the utility room door on the station map breaking completely, and the event logged being inconsistent with readings. The very first bug, however, was the main menu music not actually working until I went to the audio section of the settings. I personally thought it was kinda funny. The second bug I encountered was less so, as the character creator would not load my model when I loaded into our lobby. That was a frustrating experience, as I made multiple attempts to get it to load and even did a relaunch. While the two bugs annoyed me, the sheer amount of information present at the lobby absolutely made me feel like this game would be far too much. And honestly, despite listening to some of the tutorials, our first run was a nightmare. It was a mess of our group barely understanding the mechanics combined with an insanely aggressive haunt which threw not one, not two, but three void events at us despite us not bringing sticks (as we didn't really figure out how.) We had no idea how to use some of the tools we brought, or how to even tell how close we were to death. And yet, despite all those setbacks, I had a blast. It wasn't scary in the sense of like a horror movie, where I am on edge of my seat in silent anxiety worrying about the next thing that's gonna pop at me. It was more like the funny type of horror, where the scares (even if basic) made me laugh and freaked me out when they randomly jumped in my face. The sheer amount of things constantly happening made it less so scary and moreso funny because of the pure chaos that was ensuing. The fact we were so disorganized and unprepared made for some great laughs in general while we learned the game. I think the best way to play this game is to learn it pieces at a time, taking on more advanced mechanics as you go. For example, we first started off learning how the basic tools worked and what events looked like (some gripes about this later), then we learned how to use thermals and emfs to spot things, and then eventually learned the audio logger. Trying to learn everything at once results in just too much needing to be understood and then dealing with the randomness of the haunt and being able to somehow adapt to it. Visually, I think the game could use some work. It uses a lot of the physical assets Phasmophobia does, even some of the text, and so it sometimes feels like I'm playing a more light-hearted and less serious take on Phasmophobia, which is both to the game's benefit and detriment. The lobby itself could use an overhaul, as all of the information and videos are simply too much to absorb all at once. The screens themselves aren't too bad to use, but it just feels like there's a lot going on. I think it might be a better idea to find some way to have TLDRs readily available once in the haunt, instead of only on display in the lobby. The events themselves are pretty neat, although I do have a couple complaints. The first being that the entity spawning event happens WAY too much and often times feels like the moment I go to scan it I've lost it. At first they were visually overwhelming, and then they become annoying due to the frequency. The voids don't always register correctly without you needing to get within harm distance, the audio events can be frustrating when they're going off during a hunt and you can't listen in, and my biggest complaint, by FAR, is the inconsistency in the object move/extra object events. It is so frustrating seeing a floating item on the wall and having to wait 15-20 seconds if I end up eventually getting the guess wrong. EMF works amazing for when I have object disappearances and even some of the moves, but extra objects give no readings and act as pains in the ass you gotta scan over and over again to confirm they're not moves without using auto. It just feels bad. Still though, for the money's worth and cost, I could see myself introducing to this to my more chaotic phasmophobia friends and having an absolute blast with the silliness that occurs in this game. I think it's worth the pickup, especially on discount, and overall it's a good time despite some of the glaring issues.
É uma vibe Phasmo porém um pouco dificil de fazer os rituais e as explicações estão todas em audio em inglês :/
I love that they added new modes. I love the cleaner mode.
