This is the game people buy because they like Magical Drop III. What you should be doing instead is playing Magical Drop III. End of story. There is no substitute and this is a poor imitation. It's slightly better than the now-deceased and banned from Steam Magical Drop V but the reality of the situation is it does nothing really that would otherwise have been done with the now-defunct Data East title. So, you're not really giving them you're money, you're giving money to someone generating some barely-earned cash off their corpse. My honest recommendation aside from buying this game is go find Fightcade, go play Magical Drop III with a friend or a random in a channel and enjoy yourself for a zero dollar charge rather than buying this. In fact, look up Fightcade in general and discover a lot of things that you would otherwise have never known about, especially in the puzzle genre. You'll be happy you did.
使用キャラクター解放のためのスゴロクモードが「100%おれんじじゅ~すっ!」より少しマシ程度に面白くないです。
Multiplayer is dead, characters unlock by clearing modes from Normal to Hard, levels of skill that a beginner will hardly reach since a lot of hours are required. Actually I played Magical Drop III and prequels for some years now and I still strive to beat the CPU sometimes, I can't immagine someone who's just here to "jump into" the series: litterally anti-beginner. The fact that every mode you play force you to restart from the beginning if you lose is frustrating and a huge deal-breaker for most of beginners and casual players. I can't even play the "Arcade Mode" because at a certain point it tells you to unlock characters first if you wanna fight them so you are forced to hit Story Mode: lots of dialogue, lots of puzzles and challenges and if you loose once you are back to square one and repeat.
Fun game but not worth $40 CDN in any universe. Bought it on sale (i think for like $7 CDN) to play with a friend, and while it's enjoyable enough as a mindless puzzle-bobble-candycrush-bejeweled-type match-3 game, the story mode is a chore and path of destiny is a miserable slog I only endured to unlock my favourite character in multiplayer. I could only recommend MD6 if it's on sale AND you have someone to play it with, otherwise i'd suggest emulating one of the previous titles instead.
Recommended 8/10* Gorgeous looking visuals, all art its high res, also love how the character voices sound, and the gameplay its the classic magical drop formula from the arcades, grab some balls from one color and drop them with other balls of the same color so they all blow, if it works, why fix it?, and im glad its the same as always, some times one just want to play some magical drop and chill out.
I used to play Magical Drop 3 in an arcade several decades ago and this version is pretty much that. I paid $3 for this, so it's a good deal. It runs well and thankfully it allows mapping keyboard controls, because these middle-aged fingers couldn't win with the joypad. Two minor quibbles: 1. I wish there were an option to automatically skip dialog since the game requires you to hit a skip button and then another to confirm it each and every time. 2. The board game mode (whose name escapes me) could have been fun. It's far too random with no strategy and it seems arbitrary as to when losing a round causes a game over.
I've been playing this game since the MAME 32 games, Magical Drop III was my favorite game of all. I'm so glad to see the games still going.
Magical Drop VI is a revival of a classic arcade puzzle formula that embraces speed, pressure, and personality while attempting to reintroduce the franchise to a modern audience. Developed collaboratively by Highball Games, Storm Trident S.A., Forever Entertainment S. A., and TA Publishing, and published by Forever Entertainment S. A., the game represents the most ambitious attempt in years to bring the Magical Drop series back into relevance. It stays rooted in the franchise’s arcade heritage while layering in modern features, modes, and presentation choices that broaden its scope beyond its original pick-up-and-play origins. At its core, Magical Drop VI remains a fast, reflex-driven puzzle game built around vertical matching and constant motion. Players control a character at the bottom of the screen who can rapidly grab and throw colored drops upward, clearing them by forming vertical groups of three or more of the same color. Unlike slower, turn-based puzzle titles, Magical Drop thrives on momentum and quick decision-making, encouraging players to chain clears at high speed while managing the ever-descending stack. The mechanics feel immediately familiar to series veterans and surprisingly intense to newcomers, as hesitation is often punished more severely than mistakes. What sets the experience apart is how aggressively it emphasizes competitive tension. In versus play, successful chains and combos send additional drops to the opponent’s field, creating escalating pressure that can quickly spiral out of control. Matches often swing dramatically in seconds, rewarding players who can maintain composure and rhythm even as the screen fills with color. This high-energy pacing captures the spirit of the original arcade entries and remains the game’s strongest feature, particularly when played against another human opponent either locally or online. Visually, Magical Drop VI leans heavily into a bright, stylized aesthetic that blends modern anime influences with classic character designs. The roster is inspired by tarot card archetypes, each character bringing unique animations, personality traits, and musical themes into battle. These visual flourishes add charm and identity to matches, making even short sessions feel lively. While some interface elements and menu transitions can feel less polished, the clarity of the playfield during active gameplay ensures that readability is never sacrificed for spectacle. One of the most noticeable expansions over earlier entries is the sheer number of available modes. In addition to traditional arcade-style battles, the game offers Story Mode, Survival, Puzzle challenges, Caravan-style score attacks, and other variations that remix the core mechanics in different ways. Story Mode loosely connects characters through light narrative segments and themed encounters, providing structure for solo players, though the storytelling itself remains secondary to gameplay. These modes collectively add longevity and variety, giving players multiple reasons to return beyond simple score chasing. Progression and unlocking content play a larger role than in older Magical Drop games, which can be a double-edged sword. Unlockable characters, modes, and paths provide a sense of long-term goals, but they can also disrupt the immediate accessibility that arcade fans expect. Some players may find that these gates slow down the experience, especially if they prefer jumping directly into competitive play with a full roster available from the start. That said, for players who enjoy gradual progression, these systems offer a steady sense of advancement. Multiplayer support is a central pillar of the experience. Local play captures the classic couch-competition feel, while online play allows for broader matchups, though population levels can vary depending on time and platform. When matches connect smoothly, the core gameplay shines, delivering frantic, high-stakes puzzle duels that feel true to the series’ roots. As with many niche puzzle fighters, the game benefits most from a dedicated player base or friend group rather than relying solely on random matchmaking. Overall, Magical Drop VI is a passionate and energetic return for a franchise built on speed and chaos. It doesn’t radically reinvent its formula, nor does it fully streamline every modern system it introduces, but it succeeds in preserving the heart of what made the series beloved in the first place. For longtime fans, it offers a nostalgic yet expanded take on a classic arcade puzzle battler. For newcomers willing to embrace its intensity and learning curve, it provides a distinctive alternative to slower, more methodical puzzle games. While not without structural quirks, Magical Drop VI stands as a vibrant celebration of arcade puzzle action, driven by reflexes, rhythm, and relentless momentum. Rating: 7/10
