Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut

At times we must purge things from this world because they should not exist. Even if it means losing someone that you love.

I bought this game on sale for $1.24, and I think that was still too much. I dont know if it's the steam port specifically, but the game was super choppy. I won't comment on the story or anything since I haven't played most of this game. I'm mainly reviewing based on early impressions of this port. The gameplay feels so choppy and strange.

Stuttering, black screens, freezing, crashing, headache, heartburn, nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, upset stomach, change in activity or mood, and unpleasant thoughts are all side effects you will experience if you try to play this port.

The FBI is sent into a small town to investigate the murder of a young woman, and meets a cast of quirky characters along the way. No, this isn't Twin Peaks, this is Deadly Premonition. You are FBI Special Agent Francis York Morgan and you, with your imaginary friend Zach are tasked to solve a murder in a mountain town of Greenvale. The town is strange, the residents are even stranger, but you are an oddball yourself so it all blends together in a wacky vision of Americana filtered through the lens of a Japanese developer. The first thing you need to know is that this game is jank. Mechanics are counter intuitive, combat is sluggish and tank-like, and navigating the overworld can be just confusing. Many people complain about crashes and corrupted saves, though I never had that problem. It may sound strange, but this sort of jank gives the game its charm. Everything seems a bit off, but all the characters are also a bit off too, so in a strange round about way it all kind of complements each other. Not to mention the characters are all likeable, if a bit zany, and there is clearly a lot of care in showing them do their day to day routines in town, which even can give you a few hints to the mystery at hand. It is open world, with the side quests being optional, but completing the side quests not only gives you some useful items, but also can sometimes gives you insight to the greater mystery at hand. Sometimes. If you are looking for a well polished experience that just works, look else where. But if you want to feel the experience of jank that barely works but has a lot of charm and personality, this might be for you. Just don't pay full price for it.

Même chose que beaucoup, le jeu plante aléatoirement, et j'ai fini par être bloqué au chargement d'une cinématique, je ne peux donc pas continuer.... C'est dommage, car en dépit de la technique et du gameplay catastrophiques, le jeu avait un charme...
