About

A dream among the stars — or a nightmare.
1,000 colonists. One ship. A destination that may be fifty years away — or centuries. Some will land. Some will be born, age, and die in the dark between stars without ever knowing if the mission succeeded.

Inspired by John Ayliff's Seedship, Dead Reckoning is a game about the slow, invisible erosion of civilization across generations. Every decision you make is defensible in the moment. The horror is retroactive.
Manage food, power, and hull integrity across centuries of deep space. Navigate crises, uprisings, and failures that compound silently into irreversible outcomes. The crew that arrives — if they arrive — may not remember where they came from, what they believed, or what it means to be human. A society of clones. A ship that has become a cathedral. An AI that no longer needs to ask permission.

Five forces reshape your colony across generations: genetic drift, ideological fracture, AI integration, technological regression, and class stratification. Every choice nudges the needle. None of them reset. The faction that rises in year 200 was built from decisions you made in year 40.

Settlement. Extinction. Digital transcendence. A ship that turns back. A crew that ascends without landing. Every run tells a different story. What reaches that planet is the sum of everything you did — and didn't do — across centuries in the dark.
You may not recognize it. You may not want to.

Sad to say that a strong AI writing vibe detracts significantly from the experience - despite the dev claiming no ai influence on the creative side. I don't know if the dev perhaps copied too hard from llm prompts, or trusted an outside writer who lied, or simply didn't have enough confidence in their own voice, but this is clearly heavily ai-influenced writing and the experience suffers heavily for it. The rest of game systems also feel heavily vibe-coded, but I don't actually think that takes away so much. In fact, this game is a fascinating case study in vibe coding. The simulation is fairly complex and interesting, the overall idea is cool, and there are a lot of different ways a run can go - right now I'd say it's worth a purchase if the idea interests you. $15 is a fair price for everything but the writing. My advice? Hire a writer, especially if you want to hold the price where it is.
I greatly enjoyed playing the demo, so I bought this day 1 of early access. Just to be clear: I *never* buy games in early access. So that should make it clear how much I liked the ways it built on it's Seedship inspirations, having far more choices during the actual journey (due to awake humans). If I have to criticize anything, it's the current lack of options for hull repair and power restoration. Yes, there are one-time costly emergency operations to regain a little power or a little hull, a tech to increase engine efficiency to reduce power loss, AI stuff to reduce hull wear, and an event with the option to force everyone to move deeper into the hull and harden it, but that's it. It puts a very harsh limit on how long you actually have, all alone in the dark, before you absolutely HAVE to land. Food, on the other hand, is almost a nothing-burger (if you'll pardon the pun), and one of the techs which makes it even more so eats (sorry again) the extremely limited power supply. I'd suggest adding options like temporarily orbiting and mining a particularly rich-resource asteroid for hull materials (edit: this is apparently a thing already/now, I just got a random event for it before even leaving Sol properly), researching and building a ramscoop to refuel the reactor at cost of hull damage if your pilot isn't good enough, things like that. Additionally, I found a crash bug, and a separate graphical glitch: - Trying to access the camera views crashes the game on Windows 10. These were not enabled on the demo, so I can only assume the dev forgot to fix a bug when they re-enabled them right before going to Early Access. It remains as of 29 June 2026. - The star map glitches and draws flashing bright triangles over itself, from two points in the upper-left down to one object per triangle on the map. Fortunately, I don't get seizures. The graphical glitch occurred on an FX-8800p APU, so that's Radeon R7 8CU graphics. The chip is from 2015, and the latest driver (released August 2022) is installed. If not for the seizure-inducing risk, I'd say this isn't a particularly high priority -- the glitch did not occur in the demo on an RX 6600, and may well be simply a driver glitch. (I would report these bugs on the Discord, but the server requires ID verification, and I am not fool enough to give my ID to a company that has TWICE had their verification service leaked and everyones' ID info stolen, let alone other concerns of this day and age.)
Cool game. Definitely still early access, if the devs continue the current trajectory this'll be a banger on full release.
It is a satisfying game as it stands. Expanded as intended it should be very exciting.
10 days after coming into Early Access: The writing can be incomprehensible and the font doesn't help. Every event sounds like AI generated but dev states it isn't so it's a matter of belief. But I'm a huge fan of the Seedship and so I like this game too. The gameplay loop is very, very limited, tech is so simple and costly I think I'd be better off not using it at all and the ship is falling to pieces no matter what you do even before I get to the closest star. It is unbelievable that the people abroad the ship are so old and by year ONE of the mission people start dying from old age. At the ripe old age of 56. But I love the original and so I give it hopeful thumbs up.
Fun game although a bit short. Ill revisit sometime next year or unless there is massive updates ill be here earlier. It was fun watching and looking at a bunch of the tabs but it did feel like i did not have to do anything with them. along side that i do wish i had more choices or impact between directives and not just have directives be the only thing to work off of. Something i tried to do also was make pit stops at certain planets but instead got punished since i cant extract resources tempoarly and then move i could only settle. Overal game has potential given time but is fun already for you to play if you want to kill half to an full hour of time.
For the price, it was worth my time to hop in and do a few runs. Interested to see where this one goes next.
People say this game is very much like Seedship. Somehow in all my years of playing PC games I never played that. What I find in this game is near infinite repeatability due to wanting to try all different kinds of methods of both making a successful colony and a failure of a ship! There's so many options to chose how to manage your own fate. I've had runs where I took a specific outcome to lessen the impact at that time on my ship only for it to come back 10x worse 50 years later and bite me. There aren't many games that do that!
Un bon petit jeux. On a fait le tour après une dizaines d'essai ou apres avoir trouver la planete idéale
