Dark Tales: Edgar Allan Poe's Ligeia Collector's Edition

A nice time-killer, though not much beyond. The game clearly prioritizes gameplay over plot. The story inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's work exists purely to move you from one location to another and provide excuses for puzzles. There's nothing more to it and the characters are one-note. In particular the ending of the main storyline feels rushed and sudden. One moment you're in mortal danger... and in another everything's fine. As to be expected from Hidden Object game, in "Ligeia" you mostly search for various items to move further. While it was truly fun, I found that the game relies a bit too much on you getting entire bundles of objects (Find 4 Gems to unlock the book! Find 4 Clover Leaves Broches to unlock the bag! Etc.), which smacks of somewhat lazy design. There are more creative puzzles, though like the light puzzle where you have to aim four rays of light to highlight 8 symbols or a fight with the Cloaked Figure where you have to match symbols on rotating wheels to damage him. The artwork of the game is pretty, but hardly outstanding. The characters' animations are also basic and stiff. 6/10

This series seems to follow the plots of Edgar Allen Poe’s stories. Of course, with you and a Detective involved. This one, you are tasked with stopping a murder before it happens. Of course, there is more here than it seems… HO scenes are fun, minigames challenging, and the plot engaging. Recommend in the bundle, just for ease of purchase.

I'll give it a positive vote because it isn't a bad game. However, in my opinion, there are plenty of other HOGs on the market that are better than this one.

lots of puzzles, fun graphics

I love these games, however, I felt this one was a bit shorter than the rest. I do realize that it's based off a short story (essentially all of Poe's stories were short stories) and it's still a wonderful game, I just felt that I got through it quicker than the rest of the DT games. The Black cat is still my numero uno but unfortunately, it's not on steam. I do enjoy these games, I'm glad that Poe isn't brushed aside or forgotten in this day and age.

I once again wish that Steam had average ratings because this game is a hit and miss with most people. And I can understand why. I personally liked this game, however, I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. This game is for people who really, really love puzzles and HO scenes over plot. If you want a strong plot to a game, then you can pass this, but if you are more of a puzzle person this I can recommend it. Interestingly, the bonus game is far, far more plot heavy than the main. Something I haven't seen before. However, I do have a few problems with it. Which is why I wish it had an average rating. First, the puzzles do lean on the easy side, I only had trouble with one puzzle, but that had more to do with the fact I'm horrible at math than a commentary on the game's difficulty. The latter part of the game is way too heavily on finding lock and key pieces to the point it tired me. I also felt the game relied too heavily on matching puzzles. And I don't like it when games keep repeating the same puzzle it just screams laziness and lack of creativity. But I don't feel this is a bad game. I just feel it's more for a certain type of player that prefers puzzles and maybe more on the easier/relaxing side. That's what I will say for this game.
