We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.

This game is pretty fun, and essentially, it's like the original idea of what Warframe was going to be.

13 on sale2 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 2 “not sold” markets are read from the Steam price pass of Sep 8: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price in those. The 13 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

After finding out about this game on Tiktok and it being the spiritual predecessor to Warframe i knew i had to give it a try. I will point out the positive aspects of the game, the negative aspects and a guide to fix the game to make it WAY more enjoyable. Positive aspects: While the gameplay follows the generic aspects of a third person shooter game, Dark Sector adds its own unique spin to it. That being a glaive. A glaive is essentially a bladed flying disc, and it has a whole lot of functions too! You can grab items and weapons from a distance, you can make elemental reactions with the surrounding environment (fire, electricity, cold) and the coolest imo you can control it and detonate it mid-air. This freshens up the gameplay and makes it less repetitive overall. Negative aspects (most of these are fixable, guide down below): -The native resolution is low and the game locks you to a box screen ratio (fixable). -The game resets your custom controls every time you restart it (fixable). -Since both Dark Sector and Death Stranding's executables are named DS.exe discord will show that you are playing Death Stranding (fixable). -The story is alright i guess, nothing too crazy going on, interesting premise, however imo it lacks world and character building. But since this is a 2008 indie game and the devs first story-driven single player game i will let it slide. -The movement is kinda janky, especially sprinting (which literally feels like you're steering a cargo ship) and there are some questionable control decisions, such as interacting and melee attack being bound on the same button (default spacebar) and taking cover, rolling and sprinting aswell (default ctrl), but atleast you can customize which action(s) are bound to which key. -Alt tabbing back into the game will show a black/transparent screen for 10ish seconds before actually showing the game and it will also sometimes crash when doing this (sorta fixable). Guide to fixing each problem: -DISCORD FIX: Download steamedit (https://steamedit.tg-software.com/) search for Dark Sector -> Edit Launch and rename the executable from DS.exe to something like DarkSector.exe You will also need to manually rename the executable in the game folder, on steam, go to dark sector, right click -> manage -> installed files -> browse local files and rename it the same way (NOTE when launching the game for the first time after modifying it steam will redownload the original DS.exe, however, it will still launch the modified one). ^IF YOU'VE DONE THE DISCORD FIX YOU WILL NEED TO TWEAK THE MODIFIED EXE INSTEAD OF THE OG ONE FOR EVERY OTHER FIX (this is also why the discord fix is on top of every other one) -RESOLUTION, ASPECT RATIO AND CONTROLS FIX: in the library right click dark sector -> manage -> installed files -> browse local files -> Configs folder -> open DS.cfg with notepad. Paste Graphics.DisplayAspectRatio=FullScreen4x3 (this is the working equivalent of 16:9 for some reason, you may change the aspect ratio to whatever other aspect ratio your monitor has, although it may not work on wider screens) directly under [Windows_Config,/Types/Config] For 1080p, set: -Graphics.FullScreenSizeX to 1920 -Graphics.FullScreenSizeY to 1080 (if you got 2K or 4K going on you can also punch those in) and hit save. VERY IMPORTANT!! you NEED to lock the DS.cfg to READ ONLY otherwise the game will overwrite it, to do so right click the DS.cfg file -> properties -> check the "read only" box -> apply -CONTROLS RESETTING FIX: First of all, open the game and set the controls to your hearts content in the options, then close the game, navigate to the config folder again and set the defbind.cfg file to READ ONLY as mentioned before. ALT TABBING PROBLEM: This one isnt 100% fixable unfortunately, however we can still do something about it Right click DS.exe -> properties -> compatibility tab -> check the "disable full screen optimization" box -> apply. Now, when alt tabbing back into the game instead of it being all buggy what will happen is that the game window will be black for 10ish seconds before showing the game correctly. DO NOTE game crashes might still happen when tabbing back in, so you should only alt tab at every checkpoint if you need to. Despite its flaws, Dark Sector remains a rather short but enjoyable experience, with the main story lasting around 6 hours, or 12 hours of gameplay if you count newGame in brutal mode. PS: if you like Warframe you'll especially love the little lore details and innuendos that inspired the game as a whole.
Game is the definition of mediocre. First off, the Glaive having basically 0 range should be a literal crime against humanity after the game makes it so you can't hold any of the guns the enemies have. Second, the crosshairs are literally just a decoration, a suggestion if you will, because nothing in the game is accurate to them. The combat encounters are so frustrating and unfun. Your pistol is inaccurate, you have to get in close to use the Glaive, and even then you have to hit an enemy 2-3 times to keep them down. Then, after fighting through waves of enemies, one enemy will run at you with a shield that's immune to all types of damage and one shot you, forcing you to restart the entire encounter. And if the game didn't have enough problems, the MC has the personality of a wet McDonald's napkin. There are glimpses in the story where he questions what he's doing all this for, just for someone on the radio to be like "trust me bro, you're almost done, please just keep going," and he's like, good enough for me. It's an incredibly shallow story with equally boring gameplay. This game would slap if you bought it for $4 used at a GameStop in 2009 for the PS3, but I just don't think it's worth the time investment, even if you got it for free. Life is too short to invest in mediocrity.
This feels like it wanted to be resident evil so badly but it just isn't. Few issues: minimizing or changing your resolution causes the game to be unable to maximize, so youll need to hard restart the game each time you do it. The resolution also doesn't work on wide screen, it cuts your ammo counter off, so best youll get is 1920x1080. Enemies are janky and the animation to jump from cover is missing frames, so they are going to snap from cover to shooting position. The zombies detection of the player is mediocre, but they're a bit freaky in the way they move Be very ready to use a pistol and glaive for most of the game, and the native controls if on mouse and keyboard are ... not great. Sprinting gives you basically no control of your charcter, you use it to run straight and thats about it. Enemies with shields are an enigma to me. All in all, the games jank, its average for 2009, and wayyyy below average in 2026. 5.5-6.5/10 2009 standards 3.5/10 2026 standards. Therefore i cant recommend this, but if it gets a remaster or remake it would probably be pretty good.
