There's neither a story nor a game, just a moral lesson which is obvious.
i got to torture and hang a priest 10/10
Torture simulator, dark art, strange cinematics and witch searching. If there was an actual story being told then I would say its worth trying but its really just a bunch of random dialog that ends in about 15 min.
A short story about a witch finder in a small town. Talk and torture your way through the populace to find the supposed witch. Features several stunningly beautiful claymation cinematics.
I purchased this game as part of a Horror humble bumble. It was not why I purchased that Humble Bumble. Please don't put me on a list for purchasing and playing this game. I did not enjoy it. Thank you. - In all seriousness, I found it disturbing the player actually had to simulate the torture. Do people really like games like this? I noped out hard. To add onto that, it was done in a very juvenile way. You're basically pulling some lady's tongue, but it's the fishing game from Stardew Valley - if you know that one. The second game I played was trying to dunk some person in water, but again, it just didn't feel very serious. Please note, I don't want the torture to be more realistic; I think a different mechanic altogether should have been used - or the way the torture scenes played out should have been different. But I think this game wants to be taken seriously. I perused the negative review section after I was (very quickly) done with this game, and saw the developer basically say we're supposed to take away that Witch Hunters Weren't Cool. So, this is less a game, and more of a lesson, I guess? Only... I don't know anyone going around saying Witch Hunters Were Cool or right in the context of history. For the most part, I think most of us are hopefully side-eyeing The Salem Witch trials at this point. I think if the developer was trying to teach his/ her audience a lesson, maybe a more relevant-to-today connection would have been better. It's funny to me the developer missed the more relevant modern commentary their game could have made - ie, how there's still witch hunting in social media, local businesses, etc, and tried to do something with that. Plus, based on what I did play, it felt like the actual problem was judgement and finger pointing amongst the people - why is the Witch Hunter solely to blame, when the priest was being a judgmental, finger-pointing ♥♥♥♥? Also, society as a whole allows the Witch Hunter to exist... Having said all that, I think the biggest problem with this game is a simple one: it says it's a choices matter game in the user tags. I don't know if the developer has control over those, but this is not a choices matter game. Regardless, in the description of the game, the developer does imply it's a choices matter game: "On the last morning a witch must hang, best you know who by then." ...Wow, I really better get this right!! ...but apparently the last choice does NOT matter. You simply pick someone and ride away. I do feel like I understand what the developer was going for here, but this sort of narrative is much more suited for another media, not a video game. If you're saying 'we better figure it out,' then it 'better matter when we do figure it out,' otherwise it's just a disappointment for the player. I don't blame those players at all for being disappointed that none of their choices matters in a game labeled as choices mattering, much less the ultimate choice of who you hang not mattering at all. Please don't deceive players about what your game is ultimately trying to do; I think this game would have a lot less negative reviews if it owed up to what it actually was about.
fookin scary game lad fook me
