About
You've read the description. It's pretty self-explanatory. If you're in a mood for a short, about 2 hour long, visually-heavy mystery game that's just right for the autumn season, then why not give this a try?

However, if the free Halloween candy doesn't convince you, then read onwards.
Step into the shoes of Casey Noir, an immortal, shadowy detective, who was invited to a Halloween party at a gothic hotel by a familiar face.
Unfortunately, the reunion is cut short when one of the guests is murdered, with the murderer being one of the guests still present.
Investigate the hotel and its surroundings, chat with suspects, collect evidence, and dig to the bottom of what's exactly going on this Halloween. The masks of the party-goers conceal, detract, and lie.

Casey Noir and Carved Pumpkin's Latte is a free visual novel blending rich style with a shot of old-fashioned point-and-click sleuthing. I wouldn't call it perfectly brewed, but I can't roast the price. [strike]Okay, that's enough coffee puns.[/strike]
Story + Gameplay
Our titular character, an immortal shade who moonlights as a private detective, accepts an old friend's invitation to a "coffee connoisseur" Halloween party at a secluded hotel and strikes up colorful conversation with eight mortal (anthro and largely queer) guests. When a guest is murdered, Casey Noir must find evidence to use in a parlor room-style deduction. Controls. Keyboard + Mouse only. Playtime. ~2 hours Options. Can turn on location and clue markers, but not recommended.
What Works For Me
✅ All characters are fleshed out with unique motives. ✅ I adore the color palette and music; it's definitely a vibe. ✅ The stylized art is pretty damn cool. ✅ An interesting mystery that kept me guessing. ✅ The epilogue is… its own experience. ✅ Option to turn on dev commentary. (More devs should!)
What Doesn't Work For Me
❎ Font can be hard to read. ❎ A lot of typos and grammatical errors. ❎ I would have preferred more foreshadowing.
Final Thoughts + Recommendation
While it's extremely short and ultimately linear, Casey Noir was a joy to play. The whole game feels like a hand-crafted labor of love: the art direction is awesome, though occasionally hard to follow in more complex scenes; the story and characters are simple but also layered with emotions; the dialogue is at turns witty or insightful but never filler; and the epilogue hit me in the feels. There wasn't much dev commentary, but reading Nik Rouz's approach to art and writing made me more forgiving of strange grammatical mistakes. I'd recommend checking this out if you enjoy story-driven point-and-click detective games, or are simply looking for something you can play in an evening before Halloween. This is an absolute masterpiece of a storytelling game. Everything is so well-planned. The story behind every figure is very vivid and beautiful, perhaps in a way that makes you cry from both sadness and compassion. Every little detail and scenes fit into the storyline seamlessly. And the art paired with the music is wonderful. 10/10 would recommend it to my friends. Sadly, however, nothing in this world is perfect, and I have to point out some stuff: - There are some typos. It's not huge but it breaks the immersion. - More sound effects could be better. For example, a sound effect whenever my cursor is placed upon a clue could be helpful because subtle changes in shade is very hard to notice. - Using both party names and real names is confusing. It would be better to have an option to see both at the same time. - The delivery for the epilogue was a little bit confusing. I am pretty sure it is intended, but it could help to explain a little bit more. - Settings menu is confusing without any title for it. But still the game is great. If you're reading this, don't hesitate to download and play. It's definitely worth the experience. And it's free. I'd have bought this game even if it was like 60 dollars or something.
Жена сказала если на этом обзоре будет 30 лайков и 8 наград , она купит ящик пива, мужики выручайте! My wife said if this review gets 30 likes and 8 awards, she will buy a case of beer, guys help me out!
amazing art, interesting plot, the atmosphere and the fact its free - everything whats the best. Though i felt like i would want a little more explanations to why everything happened, that was a really good game that i would gladly recommend to others
It's not horrible......it's just kinda boring and the character designs need a little more "ooomph"/punch to stand out from the mind-numbing orange/purple art-style and backgrounds. Since there's no voice work (understandable from a game budget perspective!) the game relies on written dialogue to carry the day, and the writing just isn't solid enough to snap me out of the dullness of the art-style. Additionally, there are certain things about the characters that are just thrown at the reader/player with no background or story/world-building that would make these points have the impact they should. Example, what is a shade, and why should we care (almost every character comments on it, but there's not enough story time devoted to it for it to matter to us, the reader). Needless to say, this is all terribly subjective (maybe if I'd had a better day or been in a slightly different mood I would have been won over and charmed by the characters and their strife), so please don't think that I absolutely hated the game or something. It just left me quite cold. Look, for the low cost of free you should probably check it out anyway (it'll cost you zero dollars and slightly over an hour of your life.......I'll leave it up to you to decide if the latter is too high a cost to pay), but in my opinion I cannot recommend this game.
Great game and a nice way to spend an evening. Very atmospheric and pleasant to play. One thing bugged me however and it was that when I tried to click the rewind button to re-read some dialogue it instead took that as a regular click and just made me go further into the text which only made me miss more of the dialogue. The music cutting off added some suspense at times but in my experience it stayed quiet for too long at a time and adding some suspensful music in those longer moments would be perfect. Those d tthings aside I'm very glao have played this game and it was a great balance of emotional, nostalgic, contemplative and cute. Highly recommend :3
Great storytelling, cool art style. If you enjoy visual novels this one is surprisingly free and I don't understand why. Nice game to start off spooky season, worth it!
My gambling addict friend said if I post a review and it gets 150 likes and 50 Awards that he will buy me a case of beer, some vodka and 1 kg of lemon So im just gonna leave this here. Мой друг-игроман сказал, что если я опубликую отзыв и он наберет 150 лайков и 50 наград, он купит мне ящик пива, немного водки и 1 кг лимона, так что я просто оставлю это здесь.
Fun short chunk of autumn feeling. It sets the vibe well with the unique art and music. pacing near the end gets too fast and the plot gets muddled a bit because of it.
