About
Curse of the Sea Rats is a ‘ratoidvania’ platform adventure with lovingly crafted, hand-drawn animations. Embark on the epic journey of four prisoners of the British empire, transformed into rats by the notorious pirate witch, Flora Burn. To regain their human bodies, they will have to fight dangerous bosses, uncover the secrets of the vast Irish coast, and ultimately capture the witch who cursed them.

Beautiful 2D, hand-drawn animation breathes life into the game's cast of characters - inspired by classic animated films and reminiscent of the golden age of 2D platforming. These animations combine seamlessly with detailed 3D environments enhanced by light and shadow effects to create a 2.5D platforming experience of incredible quality.

Chart your progress through a huge, non-linear world as you attempt to track down the pirate witch who cursed you. Shipwrecked on the coast of Ireland in the 18th Century, you'll need more than just your swashbuckling skills to forge your path to freedom.

Discover four playable characters – David Douglas, Buffalo Calf, Bussa, and Akane Yamakawa. Each character brings their unique fighting style to help you overcome the challenges posed by enemies and the environment! Play alone or with up to three friends in local co-op mode.

Each character has strengths and weaknesses. You'll be able to improve their abilities as your adventure progresses - unlocking new special skills, boosting your offence and defence, or learning powerful magics!

A labyrinthine network of hundreds of pathways, rooms and discoveries lie ahead, in a substantial quest with over 12 hours of content. Can you master each character’s playstyle, find all the hidden secrets, and unlock each of the game’s multiple endings?
PLEASE NOTE: Multiple controllers are required for local multiplayer mode

Uno dei peggiori giochi, combattimento pessimo per niente responsivo, muori in due colpi da chiunque.
手感不太行~ 还有,为什么这个游戏会有10几个G,是因为是手绘的原因吗???
Very nice Metroidvania, nice drawings of each character. Worths the price! :)
I really wanted to like this game and I prefer not giving reviews but this game is bumpy. PROS : I want to mention the game looks beautiful. The art team / artist is fantastic. The character art, animations, etc.. are all great. The story is ok. Nothing amazing but enough that i was curious where it went. CONS: CONTROLS : The controls just aren't good. They're not horrible (I've tried some genuinely broken games) but I feel the game asks a decent amount of the player and the controls just aren't responsive. The attack doesn't feel great and i can't tell if they're going for a dark souls style combat where the attacks need to be very deliberate, but that doesn't go well with the game they designed if that's the case. It's genuinely a shame because with better more responsive controls this game could've been a hidden gem imo. BOSS DESIGN : This is the big one and what ultimately had me put the game down. Theres a boss on a parrot that's very poorly designed. It's got 4 phases essentially. Phase 1 - is where you're jumping up these trees and theres a tangle of thorns coming from the bottom of the screen. Not hard, but the controls are finnicky and it's easy to touch the thorns (instant death). Also theres a weird ledge where your character keeps trying to wall slide which will get you killed if not careful. Not hard and not a huge deal. Phase 2 - You fight the boss without her parrot. It's fun, not very hard and a decently designed boss fight. But it does take a little time to beat her. Phase 3 - Once you beat her theres another jumping up trees section with thorns and again if you touch the thorns, it's instant death. Which means you have to fight the boss again. The visual langauage of this section isn't very good so it's hard to tell where you're supposed to go, where you can jump up, etc.. Also she's now on a bird and blowing against you to push you into the vines. Again not terribly hard, but poorly designed and frustrating to have to play the boss again a couple times while figuring out where i was supposed to jump. Phase 4 - You now have to fight againt her on a bird and they're trying to blow you off the edge. If you fall off the edge, you effectively go back to the beginning and have to do all 4 phases again. If you used potions (which don't replenish and cost gold) you need to go buy more and do it all over again. Such a baffling design decision (which this game has plenty). ---- Ultimately if you don't mind frustrating games and enjoy the games art style (it's soo good imo) then give it a shot. If you care most about gameplay I'd give this one a pass unfortunately.
this game is a cool idea with very nice graphics. however, it is terribly bugged. if you play coop it can happen that you can't attack or be attacked. additionally, when moving from a room to a room where a jump is required (the next room is above us), player 1 works normally and player 2 cannot jump. this is terribly unpleasant... The game attracts attention, but my fiancée and I are very discouraged by its bugs
Выглядит и звучит отлично, но все остальное отвратительно. Безумно неудобна в коопе, но и одному в это играть не советую.
不好玩,存档点少,感觉完全是凑时长,打个boss,死了还得走半天才能到boss战,动作僵硬
I backed this on Kickstarter and was able to playtest. I don't feel like there was enough testing and not enough was done to correct the issues with the game. I made multiple reports to issues that I don't believe were ever addressed, or at least weren't in a timely matter and not before public release. I think the game has great potential, but was poorly executed.
说真的,给美术组磕一个吧,很好的画风,但是地图设计真的是一坨
A flawed gem? Maybe.
This is my third time playing through this game. My first was on the Nintendo Switch, the second on the Playstation 5, and now I'm finally getting around to the Steam version. You might think that because I'm spending so much time on this game that I'm in love with it, but that's really not the case. The truth is that I've just recently played through the Castlevania Dominus Collection again, and I'm just in the mood for something a bit lighter. Players take command of a group of prisoners aboard an 18th century British ship. A witch and her band of pirates are also on board, and she uses the power of a magic amulet to attempt an escape, but in the course of it transforms everyone aboard the boat into anthropomorphic rats. In the wake of her escape, she drops half of the amulet, which is given to your group in an effort to save the captain's son, reverse the curse, and get a royal pardon. It's a novel concept, really: A four-player co-op "Metroidvania" style game isn't something that you see everyday (certain versions of Guacamelee are really the only other time that I've seen this put into action). With a large sprawling map, lots of hidden areas, novel ability upgrades, a level-up system AND a separate branching ability system a bit akin to Dark Souls one would think that this would be a contender, but... Well... Look, the game has some glaring problems and if I don't address them you're probably going to get a nasty surprise when you play it. First, the game isn't exactly a graphic delight; the hand-drawn sprites are really good, and what little animation we get is fairly well done, but the backgrounds are very simplistic and lack any details that would make them "lush." It feels like a first generation Playstation 2 game in that respect. The colors are bright and soft, and there isn't a lot of contrast in the environments which can make them uglier that what you see in still pictures. But graphics don't make a game, right? I agree, and what I'm going to address next is another shortcoming: The levels feel barren and empty. Like, you know that in a Castlevania game you're going to have certain rooms with flying medusa heads and other enemies knocking you back and forth across platforms. It feels crowded until you clear some room, it feels daunting and gets your blood flowing. I have yet to see a single room in Curse of the Sea Rats with more than four or five enemies in it. There are some "monster closet" style rooms that trap you until you clear out a few waves of enemies, but again this is only three at a time with maybe three or four waves, and once it's been cleared you never have to worry about them again. In the game's "Classic" mode (which is where I've been spending my time), this is both a curse and a relief as some enemies can deal a stupid amount of damage to you from a distance, and only a few of your character choices have long-distance attacks (if you must know, Buffalo Calf is by far the best character as her throwing knives more than make up for her lack of health and power). The games music goes for an orchestral "new age" sort of vibe that really doesn't get one's blood pumping. It makes the sparse environments feel even more relaxing than they otherwise would, and if I play it while I'm tired I have actually found myself nodding off. Controls are fairly tight, but the game realizes this and puts a LOT of platforms just out of reach, which for the first few hours of the game feels frustrating and constraining, but just get a few upgrades and it will get better, I promise. Hit boxes are another matter, as the mixture of sprites and 3D assets mean that environmental hazards can have squishy geometry, making spikes and platforms more difficult to negotiate at times than they should be. My last bit of contention is the four player mode, which is ENTIRELY the reason that I purchased this game in the first place: It uses a "dead character is a ghost until hit by another player" mechanic that in theory works really well, but alas the one time I tried to play it with other people their unfamiliarity with the game made it far more chaotic than it should have been. It's not great game for trying to teach other players as there's not "little brother mode." If you're going to play it, gift it to the people that you're going to play it with so that they can get familiar with it BEFORE the couch co-op. Or just find a better co-op game. I'm giving this game a tentative recommendation, because I see what the developers were trying to do, even if they didn't achieve it. Nothing really feels outright broken even if it can be a frustrating mess at times, and there's enough oddly specific humor that made me chuckle while playing (there's one fairly cruel joke at the expense of The Da Vinci Code author Dan Brown that had me in stiches). It has the bones of a good game even if it isn't outright.
