kickstarted the game, huge owl lover, was so excited when i saw a platforming game with owls release day, the game felt off turned it off, when it crashed, after entering a "bonus" room nearly half a year later, lots of updates and changes to the game, played it, went into bonus room, it crashed again (looked it up, it was actually the very same room) i'm sure it was a project with a lot of love, but the end product just didnt deliver and it hurts.
First off i REALLY hate to leave a bad review for this game but it needs some polishing before i can recommend it. There are some good things about the game so please take this review as not a totally dont recommend but just a middle of the road if there was such a vote on steam. But it doesnt exist so i had to choose. If the game is updated the dialogue completed and the weird bug i ran into fixed I can recommend this. BUG = weird stuttering on the death gauntlet stage later on. I know its not my system i have an RTX 5080 and an R7 9700x so im pretty sure i can run this lol. Its fun for the first few hours but there are a lot of things that are janky, and it just feels a little undercooked i guess yould say. Like parts of the dialogue are voiced, but then others just have a sound effect like a grunt etc and the conversation/story text like they just decided to quit halfway through making the game. I just dont get why they would leave it like that?? If its a choice its a strange one, maybe its a reference to something id ont understand. Im old so its possible lol. Otherwise its honestly not a bad game and the controls feel good, the combats fun. When the bug i experienced i mentioned earlier happened I finally just ended up watching a video to see the rest of the game because id invested a few hours and wanted to at least see it but it was kind of unplayable for me. The sound track is great i really loved that, the art is great, the actual gameplay is really fun too. Why then do i not recommend this? Because like i say it just needs some polishing. So until then its a firm middle of the road cant recommend buy with caution and aware that its like it is in its current state.
I'm sure this is the right game for some out there, it just isn't for me. Seems to be kind of in the vain of platformers like N++, so if you are into that style maybe this works for you. I'm old so for platforming I want something more retro than that, to me this motion just feels off. Music is great, the visuals are good but again CRT filter doesn't feel like it does what it should, but the style is nice without it. Sadly I just don't enjoy playing the game because the character motion and battle mechanics aren't my style.
If you want a game (like in the previous century - yes I'm that old so bite me) with humor and absolute stunning and beautiful scenery then this platformer isn't just for you. You will love it!! Personally I'm not big on platformer but an OWL NINJA .. come on that's epic and I know you want to be an owl ninja too !! Which is why I backed the kickstarter. So maybe a bit biased, but OWL NINJA!! Jokes asides the game is solid with good music, humor and just lovely pixelart! Downside the numerous times I died and some achievements I'll never get.
Italiano
English
Game that first of all I recommend only to lovers of the genre, that is the precision platforms with rogue elements. Only to them because despite being well packaged and above all very well cared for in some aspects, it does not return in my opinion a great feeling of fun, nor does it stimulate the research in progressing too much. In detail, the points certainly in favor of the title are a global high presentation, I would say very high level, namely pixel graphics, the same graphic style and music, really succeeded. To summarize the feeling that restores the audiovisual sector, I would say that a chill & ambient mood, cozy and cool. Congratulations at the Monster Theater team!! But where the game in my opinion is significantly lower is on the playability side and also fun, as already had the opportunity to anticipate. In theory, the combat system and the movements of our hero are studied well, but, combined with a not exceptional level design and a positioning of the enemies, including their own characteristics, not so well thought out, and adding the permadeath, make the title rather "without bite", and a little frustrating. In conclusion I recommend the game as already mentioned only to true fans of the genre, and perhaps even to those who are bewitched with considerable artistic qualities, they too could be enticed, like myself, to continue playing, to simply enjoy the atmosphere.

Bought this game on sale and honestly I'd buy it at full price if I had the option. The gameplay is refreshing (reminds me of some of my favorite games, like The Messenger), but there are two things that really make this game shine (besides the amazing graphics, soundtrack, and more things). A) This game is a roguelite, but gives you the option to turn that off. It's great for people who enjoy a quicker experience, and while there is still a hub and upgrades in 'No Rogue' mode, the game restarts you at the beginning of the level you died in (whereas in Rogue mode you'd have to go through all the areas again). B) The devs of this game were not afraid AT ALL to let the player have fun with various tools. Right off the bat, they give you a double jump, an air dash (that you can use to go up with too), four different weapons to fight with (my personal favorite was the Whip), AND a boomerang. I like how much expression this opens up in terms of playstyle, but it also means that the level design is interesting throughout the whole game since the devs don't have to waste time making simpler levels for earlier sections of the game. Overall the game just oozes personality, and it's definitely my favorite platformer in a while. It's simple to pick up, has plenty of secrets to find, but doesn't have a bunch of the fluff that many platformers do. Amazing gameplay, banger soundtrack, lovely visuals and even a snazzy, transforming, voice-acted sword. My only complaint is that there isn't more game to play, but that's also my complaint with games like Celeste and Baldur's Gate 3, and it definitely doesn't hinder the fun I had exploring the game's world.
Atomic Owl
I am not a pixel art game fan but the have been growing on me. Atomic Owl is a pretty awesome game. It's Mega Man and Castlevania mixed in a bowl, poured in a pan, baked in the oven at 400 degrees for 30 minutes and you got Atomic Owl. The soundtrack is Bon Appetit! Don't let the cute graphics fool you, this game is pretty difficult at times. Definitely pays homage to retro gaming. Bravo dev!
An excellent sidescroller that invokes that oldschool feel perfectly. Tight controls, tough bosses, and rewarding power-ups that can shape every playthrough differently. I adore how you can play through in a classic style, or a more modern Rogue-Lite style. But, gameplay details aside, the art and music are why you NEED to play this game. Stylistically, there's very little like it on the market, and it nails every note and tone.
