About
The Culdcept series has captivated players worldwide. Now, the original masterpiece returns, enhanced with convenient new features.
Build your deck from over 300 types of cards and witness the dawn of a new battle among Cepter.
On the continent of Bablashca, where the chief god Culdra once clashed with the neutral god Baltias, humanity—Culdra’s final creation—had long flourished.
However, the world fell into chaos when stone tablets discovered across the land were revealed to be fragments of "Culdcept"—the Book of Creation and Destruction.
Driven by the mythical prophecy that "he who commands the Culdcept shall gain infinite power," Cepter began to fight one another over the scattered fragments.
As the ravages of war spread, a lone youth finally rises and sets out on a long, epic journey.
Players become "Cepter" who wield cards, heading into battle with a self-constructed 50-card "Book" (deck).
Move across the map guided by the roll of the dice and summon creatures using cards on the spaces where you land. Any land where you place a creature becomes your territory.
By using Spell Cards, you can manipulate dice rolls, support your creatures, or sabotage your rivals.
The first Cepter to collect the target amount of Magic Power and return to the Castle (the starting point) is declared the winner.
After a match, you will receive a random set of cards based on your ranking. Incorporate these new cards into your Book and refine your tactics for the next battle.
When you land on another player's territory, you must pay Magic Power as a toll. However, by summoning a creature and winning a battle, you can claim that territory as your own.
In battle, the key to victory lies not only in a creature's stats and special abilities but also in Item Card effects and support bonuses from the land or allies.
Seize territories and increase your Magic Power to gain the upper hand in the game.

I cant recommend purchasing this in its current state. Its a rom of the game being emulated with their custom overlay. And it freezes quite a bit. It happens in windows and steam os. Otherwise, this is a cool game. Its magic cards+monopoly. But they definitely havent put the work into justifying the high price tag on a 30 year old game.
マルチプレイを期待して俺が悪かった、せめて倍速だけでも追加してくれ
Extremely buggy. I get black screens between most screen transitions, making the game largely unplayable.

I'll likely go back to this review to flesh it out more, but I'm just soooo excited to be able to finally play an official English release of the original Culdcept that I couldn't wait. Culdcept The First isn't as robust a release as Culdcept Begins (released earlier this month for Switch/Switch 2), but it's still a worthwhile experience for anyone who simply wants MORE Culdcept... and fans know how insatiable a craving that is. It's a fairly barebones port of the 1997 Saturn game, but there are some decent QoL changes that allow you to earn more reward cards or view the opponents' hands. Otherwise, you're just getting the game that started it all, and I am very happy for that.
I learned about Culdcept Revolt early last year and I've been in love with the series since. This is a great game and I'm happy I can enjoy this on PC.
I don't have a history with this product and didn't play it when it was new, nor did I play any of the entries that came after, so for better or worse I am reviewing it with 2026 eyes. I wouldn't recommend this, the game is simply too tedious. Unless the game modes change the more I play the game is played like this: You and your opponent both make laps around a circuitous board map composed of tiles, in opposite directions. To travel, you roll a D6. When you land on a square, you have options. If the square is empty, and you have a creature in hand, you can summon to that tile. If the square is occupied by an enemy creature, you can summon a creature of your own to fight it. If the tile was occupied by a friendly creature you left on your last pass, you can enhance it. If you have multiple creatures on adjacent tiles, you can enhance or swap anyone in that chain, after passing them during movement on your turn. To win a game, you make these laps Monopoly-style, summon your own creatures to tiles, and try to remove the enemy's creatures from the tiles. Why? Because if you land on a hostile tile and have no response, you get taxed for your MP, and vice versa for the enemy. Hitting either of the poles (the starting castle-tile, or the equidistant tile on the other end of your map circuit) grants you currency/MP (Pass Go/Collect 200), losing to a creature gives that to the opponent. So the game is mostly about walking, drawing cards, playing creatures, using spells, and trying to tax without being taxed, until you hit the victory amount (which is typically very high, games run about 50 global turns). Sounds fine-ish in principle, it's just Monopoly with bolt-ons, but the games individually take a very long time. Maybe there's a skill issue on my part, and that's fair, and maybe this is par for the course for games of the era, I get it, but most of the time is eaten up by the animations, repeated interjections from enemies on doing something/anything, and the sheer tedium of making the rounds and missing a key tile to a die-roll, making a sub-optimal play, getting countered, the opponent playing, then you countering that play, and so on. Why is that bad though, isn't that the game? Yes it is the game, it just feels bad and tedious because it takes a long time to get the next semi-randomized turn. Rolling for movement is random, there are few ways to affect movement (cards that restrict your movement to 1, or 6, or 1-3, or 4-6, for example), creatures seem to not really obey their card-text, or there are hidden rules not surfaced by the help menus which leads to near total obfuscation in some areas which just feels bad. So just judging it on merits of being a game: it has very long spectator times until you get your semi-randomized turn where you can do relatively little to affect the board during that turn, you engage in a semi-opaque turn-loop until you collect an obscene amount of points; you'll probably make about 50 laps before you finish a match. I won't refund it and might keep playing, and I'll update the review if the game shows me something else that makes me feel differently.
Honestly its just barely ok. People say this is the port of the dreamcast version but man, it looks and feels like the Ps2 version but...not as good as I remember. For the first two to 4 hours I had nice little flash back of all the fun times with friends and the wild combos we pulled off against each other but after that, the happiness I had wore thin. It doesn't even play like a slightly better version. I've always been a Culdcept fan because my friends and I played the Ps2 version with about over 1100 hours collectively on two deferent copies shared among the 6 of us. We then had about 800 hours on the Xbox Culdcept while sharing 1 copy among 4 friends who were left, and each of us bought a copy of the NDS Culdcept easily having over 300 hours each on our own copies. I honestly didn't expect too much from a old school port and this is pretty much way more lackluster than I had hoped. The interface is pretty bad and I expected at least a speed up option but they instead put extra ways to redo your turn aka cheat. Now IDC what people do in their own games, in fact they have a right to do whatever but no speed up mode for such a style of game is just sad. I've never experinced a single bug like others are saying, but I just wish for better QOL upgrades at least, nothing special. I loved the graphics then, and I love the graphics now but I can't recommend it at 30$, so wait till a sale before buying because the game isn't going anywhere and it will only deprecate with time, while the fandom will stay (as rare as they already are). I'm also still disappointed that Nintendo was able to lock down the actual new game a whole half year exclusively for the switch and switch 2 instead of it releasing for PC at the same time, but I guess that was to allow this version time to flounder for sales for a bit. I'd honestly get a refund if I was still eligible for one. Not a bad game but DO NOT pay full price for this, please wait till its at least 50% off and as soon as the new Culdcept is out, it will definitely go on sale if City Connection is smart. Remember its NOT worth more than 15$, not even a dollar more.
